i personally would buy a phone based on my needs, it would be nice to own a flagship phone, but it would be Overkill for my needs, especially nowadays, where good phones are getting cheaper and durable phones are getting cheaper, mid-range phones are well built that it would last you 5 years.. especially the plastic ones, because it wouldn't shatter into pieces if it falls.

I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 128GB + 128GB microSD when the S8 was already sold in the market. That was intentional to make sure I get the phone I wanted (128GB flagship) at a lower price. Now, the S10 (and Note 10) is (are) already in the market and I'm planning to get the S10e (just because of the flat screen flagship). *_Keeping the phone for a longer time means you have maxed out it's value. I'm one who doesn't like to keep changing phones - - it's why when I do buy its almost always a flagship phone. it really depends on the user, but on my experience it's good to really consider changing your phone right around the 3rd, 4th or 5th year ( for flagship phones) probably a lot sooner if it's just a midrange device. that's the drawback of midrange vs flagship - - sure midrange are cheaper, but they don't quite have the same performance longevity as flagships, but to some people that's OK, because they want to always have the latest stuff, while some people like myself, wants to have the dependability and consistency in the long run.

Until your phone is making your life easier and isn't a cause of anxiety. If you're a woman or someone living in an unsafe surrounding, do not f with the battery life of your phone, you can still use your iPhone 6 in 2020 but for emergencies you need a phone who's battery life isn't 1 hour. If your phone is buggy, can't make calls, or just is a device you can't depend on, switch it. If you can't afford to and are waiting to save up for an iPhone 12, just buy a $60 Nokia for now. As someone who has been in a life an death situation before and was saved by the 5000mah battery of my old $80 Redmi device, please consider this.

When to buy: Buy a new phone every 2-3 years. What to buy: Determine a budget for your phone (what you can reasonably afford), then look for the best phone (according to your needs) that fits that price range. There's no need to wait for sales/promos; there's always going to be new smartphone. There's no need to buy the best phone; most flagship phones are overkill.

I seriously needed to Google an answer for this question and then I also went to YT for the same reason. My iPhone 8 has been with me for almost three years. It still can send messages, post in social media, take photos and videos, but what really concerns me is the battery life dropping out like crazy. I have verified and validated all the features I want through more knowledgeable people (aka tech reviewers and professionals aka YugaTech). Well, i had a Nokia 2. Its good. Stock android, nice lcd display, 8mp back camera, 5mp front camera, 720p video, 4250 mAh battery and its only 110 bucks. Now the Ram and Rom are the main issues. '1 gb' ram and "16 GB" ROM. That ram is actually just 879 MB and the ROM is 7.9 GB cause of all the space taken by the internal apps. Im a heavy user and this phone just didn't cut it. I couldn't download Injustice and missed out on a year of new game characters. Even when i did download it, the little Ram proved an annoyance as i couldn't maintain play without eventual lag or shutdown of the app altogether. I couldn't play music either without the app shutting down unannounced. That's the story of that phone. I upgraded to the A30 Samsung and its miles better. Amoled display, 4k mAh Battery (less but idc), 6.4 inch 1080p display, 16MP on both cameras, 64 GB Rom, 4 GB ram... everything about it is superior. Upgrading to a new phone depends on the answer to this. Is your current phone proving to be an annoyance every single day? If so, upgrade

Well if you manage your finances properly, I believe you should be able to buy a new device every 2-3 years. That way you'll be in touch with latest and greatest technology, but the best thing is your wallet won't suffer. I know there are some people out there buying new smartphones every year. Guys, treat it like a luxury item. For example, If last year you bought a piece of jewelry and you really like it, why not rock with it for couple of years and then go and buy a new piece. It's okay to make sensible decisions. New golden chain every year won't make you any cooler and so won't a new phone. Facts.

my Samsung Galaxy phone still working, i purchased it way back 2014 and it is the only mobile phone i've been using until now. 📱😁. For me, no need to buy a new one 'coz it keeps working amd perform so well.

Get a good mid-range phone with a decent processor. Keep it till it dies or starts to lag. I currently have the one plus 6t and love it. I also have the mi max 3, zte axon m, lg Stylo 4, and the oukitel k9. The Stylo 4 lags . The k9 is fairly smooth but lags a little. The 6t is super fast followed by the axon m and the mi max 3.

I always think like, for say 5 or 6 hundred euro's, you can have 1 new phone. Or you could buy LOADS of other stuff. Like new T-shirts, accessoires, games, new furniture, books, online courses, etc, etc...

My phone is from 2013(the iPhone 5s) and I probably won't get a new one for 4 years because i cant get a job I know some ppl will say" ask your parents" but they would never spend more than $125 for a phone (they have a phone that prise and are complaining that it's bad ..and I'm like ITS $125 PHONE ................but it's ok I will just wait

My Oppo F1S bought Sept 2016 is still ok for what I need it to be. I just installed the apps I need and I regularly back-up the photos so the space is not that full so the phone doesn't slow down. I'll keep the phone until it dies. Then I will replace it. :-)
