When Should You Remove Masking Tape?

Hi mate when doing accent walls , say black against white I mask the white corner to get a sharp black corner But I take tape off straight away but it always pulls and splinters the white paint .when it’s a new plastered room( fully dry) it takes the paint of back to bare plaster( mist coated 25% armstead contract Matt then 2 coats Dulux Trade vinyl matt and left 24 hours) I’ve used low tack Dulux tape, frog tape yellow and green,scotch,India’s low tack Any solutions?

Usually we never tape on plaster in the corners we just cut the colours in free hand. Diluted PVA on bare plaster and you would have to leave your paint to dry for a few days, before using tape. Thanks

I can give one tip for this is to run a fairly dry brush of the white over the tape to seal it then do your accent. Retape every coat.

I've often had that and noticed it never seems to happen with a new roll. I assume it's something to do with the adhesive affecting the tape over a period of time and so, nowadays, I only buy the minimum amount of masking tape when I need it so it doesn't go "stale."
