I work at a small structural consulting firm (2 owners, 2 full time, 2 interns). I'm planning on moving to a different town and starting a new branch of the company when I get my PE. What kind of issues would you see coming up that I can discuss with my bosses before I make the move? A little more background: I will be working remotely for about a year in the town I'm moving to before I get my PE. I have already discussed this with my bosses and they are supportive. We are going to be meeting soon to discuss details and I want to make sure I get the best deal possible without being greedy.

I’m sorry but the audio quality in this video isn’t good. I like your videos, but it’s hard to get the point when the audio has an echo to it. Just wanted to make this note for future videos if you can improve it. Looking forward to the next video!

I will address this going forward. I just ordered a new microphone.

If you choose to terminate the business, do you have to keep paying insurance for a perdiod of time in case you you get sued after you shut the business? What is the exit strategy if you do it for a year and changr your mind?
@markomarkomarko4 жыл бұрын
most insurers offer a fairly low cost wind-down insurance policy for this.

From talking to colleagues, I believe there is a tail coverage to cover the work that was completed. A friend of mine got caught by that 5-6 years ago when he closed his firm and didn't get it.

I just started engineering consulting firm. I am going through some challenges. How long did it take you to get where you are today?

Hi Karim, great insights...which software do you work with?

Hi Karim, I like your videos. Keep them coming. :) Not sure why but there are not many channels like this by Canadian engineers. You are doing great work. I am thinking of starting my own engineering consulting firm. I would like to get some details about insurance coverage you have for your firm. Like how much does it cost? What does it cover? Who does it cover? Where did you get it from? I have no details on this topic. Your help on this will be really appreciated.

Hi Nick The best way is to approach insurance broker. They will set you up. For 1 or 2 million E&O , I was quoted for 3000ish a year. CGL is about 500 a year. I’m in Manitoba and looking only doing small tooling design and lifting jigs for manufacturing

@@donnyadriputro Exactly. I talked to some brokers, and they told me the same numbers as you said. Thanks a lot for your response. Stay in touch. I have started my firm and looking for projects related to Industrial Control Systems

@@nickpatel4253 Wish you good luck on your journey. It's really encouraging to see other young engineers trying to break in to the world independently. I wish Karim is back showing the ropes again but I understand he is probably busy.

Hi Karim, I really like your videos. I am a P.Eng thinking in open a small sole-proprietorship. I would love if you could share in a new video your thoughts and how P.Engs should be insured for the professional liability.
