Many people contemplate installing an aftermarket intercooler on their UTV. In reality, it's not always necessary. The function of an intercooler is to cool the charge temperature going into your engine after the turbo compresses the air. Reducing these charge temps will, in turn, produce more power as colder oxygen yields a higher density.
In most cases, you can get away with installing an upgraded intercooler fan and ducting to improve airflow through the core. As mentioned in the video, this will be dependent on your style of driving, the region you live in, and your end power goals. If you drive hard and constantly have your foot planted, then an intercooler upgrade is smart to prevent heat soak from occurring. The same applies to hotter climate regions where the turbo, intercooler, and engine get heat soaked quickly. Upgrading your fan, ducting, and intercooler will prevent this from happening as quickly.
If you are aiming for 350+HP, then your factory intercooler will not be able to keep up and hold you back from making efficient power. A bigger core will produce cooler charge temps and allow your big turbo to deliver the coldest air possible to your engine.
