Great video buddy! Great quick improvement! Jason actually had a good tip for rails and stiles. He said to mark the “front” of each with an R or an S. And keep that side going the same direction on the fence when you cut the panel groove. That way if your grove isn’t perfectly center at least they all line up as long as the letters face the same directions.

Hi Keith. A bubbly personality is great but a bubbly paint finish - not so much. I had a similar issue when spraying some Target Coatings products (all waterborne). The oil based stain I used had a cure time of 12 hours. I doubled the time. I then used a 50/50 mixture of denatured alcohol and water to lightly dampen a cloth and cleaned the surfaces. I waited an hour for that to dry. I also thinned my materials being sprayed by 10%. Lastly I cleaned, I mean REALLY cleaned my spray gun. No more bubbles for me. I don't know what did it but I think it was primarily the oil based stain not being fully cured before applying coats over it. I have a 4 stage HVLP turbine and recently went to a 5 stage in order to spray heavier finishes. I still need to thin material but not as much as with a 4 stage turbine. I will wait for your "CSI - Bubbles" episode (if you make one) to see the solution to your bubble issues.
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and sharing your experience. I don’t spray any solvent based finishes, so alcohol isn’t an option. What’s frustrating is I sprayed BM Advance and Aura for years with a 3-stage HVLP and had no issues. These newer finishes have such a different chemical makeup and have really thrown a wrench into the works.
@carlnolte1637
@carlnolte1637 2 жыл бұрын
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking I only spray waterborne finishes. If the stain is oil based I will use a white 3M pad to apply it. I hear ya, something has changed in formulations. What used to work for the past 7 years now leaves me scratching my head and starting back at square one.

Thanks Philip! My planer actually has no snipe so i don’t need to worry, but you can always leave your parts with 2-3 inches extra material on the ends and cut off later or run scrap pieces directly in front and then behind of your finished pieces and those will absorb any of the snipe

Well, the quickest way is glue and brad nails. Cut your sides to size, cut the groove and then glue up the drawer bottom with all sides and brad nail it together. If you check the video on the huge built-in that Bourbon Moth and I recently did, we banged out 18 drawers super fast. They didn't have any finish on them, though. Hey Keith - Caught your note on farming out drawer boxes in this and other videos. You happen to have any recommendations for ordering dovetailed maple drawer boxes?
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking 2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean companies to order from? If so, Timbercraft in CT or Eagle Woodworking in MA. They both ship.

You painted maple? Why not use poplar?

Maple is much harder and more durable. Also takes paint better.

You can eliminate “pre” from your vocabulary by just saying the verb you are adding to. When you say “predrill” or “prethread” what you are describing is drilling or threading. Thanks for the excellent content.

Every time I see this thumbnail in my feed, all I can think of is that the location of this cabinet would never pass a home inspection. So dangerous.

Well, it did. It was a complete home renovation and passed all inspections before I refaced the cabinet.
