I remember a few days before Spain's matchday 1, a spanish tv "Cuatro" was asking people at the streets of Austria if they know some spanish players showing them some pictures, the most of people known only about Casillas and maybe Torres or Puyol, some of them didnt know any spanish player. Nowadays nobody forget that team and what they were capable, they are all legends now, the best national team ever.

But in this case is even harder, in 2008 was in Austria were our players werent recognized, this time in our own streets most people didnt know some players name by showing them their faces, obviously people that dont used to watch football often plus the fact that most of our actual players dont play for Barça or Madrid. It's crazy to think that in pre-2008 England was the more successful football country than Spain. England had 1 World Cup, Spain had 1 Euro. Both countries won it decades ago in the 1960s. Then 2008 happened. Spain won the 2008 Euro, 2010 World Cup, and 2012 Euro. They catapulted themselves leaps and bounds above England. Now the idea that England was once the more successful football nation of the two seems ridiculously absurd

Then, the new La Masía generation showed up and led the way.
