If you do a little digging on the subject that subject is far worse than you may think. Home owners insurance doesnt cover damage police inflict on your house even though you are an innocent party. For example, and this is an actual case, a fleeing felon barricaded himself in an unoccupied home. In their efforts to capture the felon the police virtually destroyed the home. Both insurance refused to pay as did the city. The courts upheld the refusal. So I imagine the same happens when a thief steals a car and it is damaged or destroyed.

Imagine a family member of urs was hit by a recklessly driven car, will it sit well with you if others donate money to repair that criminal's car? Crime should never pay.
