So much for this race becoming a monum,ent. A rider going solo from so far out with the peloton being unable to work together meant for an extremely boring race. It was so bad, the first "highlights" reel I watched didn't even bother to show us who came in second and third. I may not watch this ever again.

Tom’s candor in his post-race response says a lot about the course change. By making it longer, the organizers altered the strategy of teams/riders and the character of this classic - perhaps not for the better. Respect to Pogačar for having the talent, guts, and the freshness to make his 80km breakaway stick. Would have been great to see a larger group go clear and have more drama for that last part of the race, as with the women’s race.

Monuments are a matter of historical connection. But imo winning only a classic like Strade , The Amstel or San Sebastian make a season successful for 99% of riders, equally like the Monuments of course .
