Not mad at all! I'm happy that you took the time to read it and even though it wasn't the review I hoped for I'm glad you really dug in and critiqued the hell outta me. I hope to learn from this and hopefully get better with time, and I will never not be a fan of your channel. I outed myself 🎉 Hopefully some of you will still check it out and maybe even like it, either way hell yeah thanks IAN 🙏🏻 Edit: I'll be happy to answer any questions about the book or my intentions with the book and the artwork and all that. Mad love 🤘🏻

Telling too much or restating what was already shown seems to be a common trend among novices (me included). I think it has to do with low confidence in our own writing and should be lesson to us all to trust our prose more. And if we truly say or explain too little, someone will point it out and we can work on adding it. I feel adding is easier than cutting out excess, but that might be a personal preference. I find the multiple PoVs in different style an interesting approach with a lot of potential so it's too bad it fell short. I agree that a lot of those scenes could have been finished during the "active" description rather than summarised later, but an alternative could be presenting the events in both narratives. If the characters had a different perception of what happened it can be a powerful device. For example, it can be super effective to play with unreliable narrators or generally to show the bystander testimony bias. Or even go crazier, since we're dealing with demons, and play with reality and how different characters are experiencing it, really make the reader wonder what's real and what's not or what effect a demonic being would have on people's psyche and the environment. Overall, I think there's potential, just needs more forethought and confidence.

Will I read this book? No. It’s not my wheelhouse, and the book itself doesn’t know if it wants to be a comic or a novella. Overall: Agree with Ian here. This sounds more like a ‘working outline’ than a finished piece. When there is no nuance, and the harsher emotions are over emphasized it clubs the reader over the head with negativity. The story itself becomes lost. I’ve had luck putting a project down for a month or two, then picking it back up again to re evaluate. For the author: This was a starting point. Keep going!

The one book I know, or at least have strong suspicions that Ian will like is the one book I wrote that I look at with disgust. Part of me wants to tag the spicy scenes in my most recently published book and have her review it because I like it more and want it seen by more people, even if it would be a negative review.

I feel this book has good pieces to it, but they don’t quite fit together.

Hey, maybe I should send in my books. *devilishly rubs my palms together* I write surreal, psychological horror. Sometimes it gets compared to David Lynch, don't know if that's your thing. :P
