I'm Irish and I have heard it, but I have never heard or seen it in an actual wedding, let alone part of the vows. Although I always thought it was nice, having seen this, it is much more impactful and beautiful. Gone from a cute old verse, into a promise and pleading to God and the one you love.

I'm Irish and lived in county Cork, and I've heard that full vow at weddings quite a few times, I didn't know it was an Irish thing. I only heard it when I was a child though, haven't heard it in recent weddings. People who are my age haven't used anything like that I'm not sure if the whole thing's exact wording is the same, but the whole thing sounded at least very similar to what I've heard before

I am not trying to be critical, I truly appreciate that you know a traditional blessing from my home. I just wanted to say that the line is "may the rain fall SOFTLY on your fields". I know it may not seem like a big change but, coming from a farming country, soft rain on your crops can mean the difference between a harvest and a failure which could be disastrous for your family. It was a blessing and therefore, it wants the best in every single way, including your crops. I really hope you do not take offence to me commenting this, I only hoped to give a little context and a little information. I have no other intention and I hope you are blessed by it rather than upset by it

Yes, Irish history is very interesting and complex and vast. No, we do not want to go back to our past. Our past was pretty miserable and the Catholic Church already has huge influence, control, and devotion here. I believe that it is actually the fact that schools teach Catholicism and Protestantism in their respective schools that is the issue, we don’t have Sunday school here, because you learn it in school, so not many people/children go to mass and therefor are not very religious in the way other countries may view the word. But the Irish are extremely devoted, just not in the way other countries may think of it. Also, this is coming from an outside perspective as an Irish atheist who used to be catholic

If not it isnt worth the time or effort just for the sake of being married ... I know because im going thtough a shitful divorce with 3 sons who i raise fulltime....
