If you just didn't scan an item it would show up as "lost or stolen item" in the inventory that was done every week before the truck was ordered. Since it was very hard to prove theft as the cashier waved it over the part of the desk that turns off the electronic tracking and set off the alarm at the doors it was written off most times. Unless a cashier had a very large number of these nothing would happen except a quick "meeting" and then extra training. Putting it into the system as a coupon shows up and flags the system after so many. I'd skip every 4th or 5th item if I ever had to be on the register and even with loses we made over 70k a month. Funny thing abt being a cashier at where i used to work at, it was a small town and we were the only grocery store in the area, so we knew most of the people in town to some extent, and ofc could recognise the more troubling customers off the bat after a week or two. Once, as we were 10 mins away from our closing/clean-up time, a middle aged widow with a karen/i try to bargain in a place with set prices "regular" came up to my buddy's counter and he just let out the biggest sigh, luckily the store manager was also there buying groceries as he also lived in town which was a really reasonable and nice guy, he just picked up my PA system speaker and said " Janice, try bargaining and you will show up as tomorrow's bargain bin special" and she just quietly payed and left as most of the staff just gave a chuckle and had a good laugh.

@@TastyMango225 It's not about if you put your two weeks in or not. Severance pay is a requirement if you're fired by your boss. This is because if an employee gets unexpectedly fired, they need to be able to sustain themselves while they look for another job. If your boss doesn't give it to you, it's a pretty hefty lawsuit on your hands. That being said, this depends on the state, and the contract. Sometimes it only applies to lay offs and what not.
@Buboltz2 ай бұрын
@@ATCmon I've looked it up online a bit, but the (FLSA) and Department of Labor says that Severance Pay isn't a requirement but more of an agreement between both an employer and their employee. As well as there being no federal nor state legislations / laws that would require Employers to pay a Severance under normal circumstances. It mainly looks like Severance is more of just a gesture of goodwill for most businesses, since they have the choice to implement the policy into their contracts or not. As well as what you mentioned since being laid off looks more promising than being fired, but other exceptions like business closure or age discrimination.
@ATCmon2 ай бұрын
@@Buboltz It depends on contract when you join the business, also sometimes they can held liable by way of labor unions. I can probably edit the comment but obviously that's circumstancial. If it's in the contract of a union or employer then it's something that's legally binding. You are correct about there being no federal protection and minimal state ones for people being *fired* for valid reasons though. Typically in a contract, if it is present, it's 1-2 weeks per year of employment.

The concept of a two weeks' notice has always puzzled me. While employers have the prerogative to terminate employment at any moment, regardless of an employee's circumstances, employees are expected to prioritize the company's convenience by providing a two weeks' notice to facilitate a smooth transition and replacement. The rationale behind this expectation remains unclear to me.

In many European countries you will be given notice if you are fired and you will then stop working (and getting paid) after a certain amount of time say 1 month (or longer if you have been employed for years, 6 months notice if you have been employed for 12 years in my country) reversely you also give a 2 weeks notice if you are quitting (1 month notice if you have been working for 5 years).

It's really not hard to figure out. The job is at the behest of the employer, so It isn't an "even" transaction. Yes you can make more money for the employer, but they also take on risks with you as well. If you use your employment to scam someone, or attack someone while wearing your uniform, or you somehow cause massive collateral damage... It's not just you that gets in trouble. It's not just you that has liability. Not only that, they're also responsible for keeping others employed. So a good employee prioritizes the company, to make sure that they're comfortable with you. To make sure that you're worth the risk. The company should rightfully prioritize itself. Not just for the sake of the people running it, but the sake of all the other employees as well. Also things he did in this video is either borderline illegal or blatantly illegal. He would have been arrested in my state.
