Lets be real. The one things that makes dwarves superhuman.... Work ethic. Everything they do, they do with care and attention to detail. Whether its mining rock, smithing, fighting, or drinking, they go 110% They dont have immortality or natural arcane abilities, theyre just fully committed to everything in life, which makes them seem exceptional by human standards.

In 5e D&D, it's mentioned that dwarves will sell "inferior" equipment to others, one example is a shovel to a human farmer. Of course, an "inferior" dwarven shovel sold to a farmer will last that farmers entire life, so the farmer thinks he got a great deal.

Something I particularly like is how the first half of the song sounds quieter, more like a celebration of the Dwarves's general society and love for ores and smithing, while the second half kicks into high-gear with a celebration of their glory in battle and sounds like a marching song.
@wojciechkowalski80615 жыл бұрын
Exactly! This represents dwarven civilization to the point: they are happy and content being just left alone to their mines and forges, creating great works of craftsmanship they can truly be proud of. But if you threaten their way of life, they will defend it till their last breath, often with the same tools that were used in said mines and forges. Have you ever noticed that Tolkien's dwarfs rarely, if ever, express desire to conquer or subjugate other races? And almost all conflicts they take part in (not counting occasional mercenary companies) is almost always a defensive war or an attempt to reclaim one of their lost holdings?
@angryvaultguy5 жыл бұрын

"A dwarf..." Bjard scowled, and slammed his flagon onto the table hard enough that cracks formed in the wood. Everyone fell silent, and turned to regard the stout young dwarf, his beard hardly long enough to bear two beads. But he spoke with words that seemed ancient enough to be carved in the roots of a mountain. "A dwarf does NOTHING by half-measure! If we do not put our all into it, we do not even consider beginning a task! Where a man swears fealty to a lord one year, then rises against him ten years later, we stand by our oath! Where a gnome abandons his project in pursuit of the latest mechanism or chemical to catch his eye, we study it until it is perfected, and we know EXACTLY how it can be used, in ANY situation! The works of man crumble and decay over centuries, and the arts of elves fade like mist over millenia. But the craft of the dwarf? The craft of the dwarf shall STAND, until the stars go dark and the sun itself fades to cinders!"

I may not be a dwarf... Only a man with what little magic I can gather... But I stand with you, and unlike the softness of man, or the fading magics of elves, my blood, my magic, it will stand with you, shall the stars burn out, I will light more, shall the sun fade to darkness, then my life will bring a new sun for dwarves might, may my magic, what little I have, and may my life, no matter how different I be, show that I stand with you, and will not leave you in time as elves, or betray as man... For I am magic first, knowledge second, and human last, my humanity may be weak in battle, but you will not see me kneel with any foe, nor betray any dwarf, I stand and fight to my last breath to help unite this world, so that we all stand as endless in time as your craftsmanship, so we all have a reason to live

Listening to this song, I just get these images of battles. Imagine being a soldier on the front lines. Maybe you're Elf, maybe you're Human. The Orcs are advancing. You're tired. Worn. Your lines can't survive another charge. And then you hear it. The marching. The singing. The hills and valleys themselves begin to ring out with the sound of Dwarven singing. Drums pounding. Hammers on anvils. And the song. And then over the hills they come. As far as the eye can see. Dwarves in shining and rock-solid unison. From every footfall, to every note, to every swing of the axe. And you are alive again.

@RosseRue5 жыл бұрын
Do you mean Luthien? If so, they already have. It's awesome.
@nordithen5 жыл бұрын
@@RosseRue Actually, I meant what I said. _The Lay of Leithian,_ translated "Release from Bondage" is a 4223-line poem that J.R.R. Tolkien wrote telling the story of Lúthien Tinúviel. The sections of verse on pages 206 and 216 of _The Silmarillion_ are quotes from _The Lay of Leithian._ There are much longer excerpts from this poem in the book _Beren and Lúthien_ recently edited and published by Christopher Tolkien. I definitely recommend it if you would enjoy reading the story in verse rather than the condensed prose version given in _The Silmarillion._ Unless there was something else I am unaware of, this book is the first time we get to see more of Tolkien's original writing about Beren and Lúthien than was given in the Sil.

Funnily enough, my infant son likes to fall asleep to this song. When it starts, he stops crying, rests his head against my chest, and soon drifts to sleep.
