I think the storyboards said he was actually trying to anticipate the slashes to sever his limbs and launch them for counterattacks because the severed limbs is where he got basically all his hits in. They also said in the MJ glide scene Suluna’s straight up not attacking and just watching him try to predict the slash. He was real life confused and struggling to adapt. That’s why the scene where the steering wheel locks and he connects. He figures outa counter

That’s actually incorrect! The plans for the episode were released and actually there weren’t any attacks aimed for mahoraga! Since mahoraga had not yet adapted to perceive the slashes, BUT it knew slashes came when Sukuna pointed or gestured, it was trying to ‘protect’ itself and attack the incoming slash before it came. It didn’t - it never came, and sukuna made a fool of it. There’s a whole list of things, but the basic point was to teach mahoraga how to lie and feint, which sukuna felt pleasure in as he ‘corrupts the divine’.

The part where he had Maharaga shadow boxing his demons will never not be amazing. Could you imagine Gohan slapping the spots off of Cell making Cell cover up in the "standing fetal pose," teleport behind him, blow on his ear, then teleport away... Only to make Cell spin around and start throwing combos at thin air.

Some animators talked about the fight online. When big raga the op stoppa is shadow boxing he's punching through sukuna's slashes that most can't see. Raga's ability is to adapt (that's legit it) and at some point in the fight he starts seeing sukuna's slashes then using that to throw punches that'll connect even after he gets chopped up. At the end of the fight sukuna has thrown enough feints that raga starts throwing some of his own which is where sukuna starts going serious (yeah for most of the fight sukuna just playing)
