As shown in her first round, she does know how to play, at the lower mid-level. She just panics too easily, but got lucky because her opponent didn't know about this stalemate rule. I think he had a specific checkmate in mind, and lost the others that were waiting for him to pull the trigger. That sort of tunnel vision is common with mid-level players.

In chess the win condition is that the opponent's king cannot move and must be directly being threatened as well. The draw condition is only that the opponent's king cannot move. So when when someone is trying to get a checkmate(winning), they have to be very careful not to get a draw instead. So what happened is that Ollie's opponent was very obviously winning, but they messed up by accidentally getting a draw instead of a win.
@ElJoeMama3 жыл бұрын
I believe what happened was: As Ollie only had her king left, the only way for her not to lose is to move her king a certain amount of times for it to be a stalemate, a.k.a. a draw. The opponent, who had all the power to win the game by cornering Ollie' king, ending the game with a checkmate, with the other rook, decided (for whatever reason, probably a simp of Ollie) to not finish it and let it end on a draw. Checkmate = where you basically have no more possible moves that you can do without getting your king eaten, meaning the end of the game. im not sure if this will really help, but this is how i understood the situation. corrections are appreciated for those who has more knowledge.

To explain in more details, a stalemate is When a player who has the turn is unable to move but is also not in check. Ollie's king is only able to move to one square, the one above it (the other squares are checkmate bacause of the white queen) Her oponent made a mistake by placing the rook at the very top (1:48), it cut off the only possible move Ollie was able to do. And so after his turn it was Ollie's turn but she was unable to make any possible move (her king is trap and she has no other piece she can move), but she also isn't on checkmate, so it ends in a draw. Also he didn't do that because he is a simp as some people said, he probably didn't even know stalemate was a thing lol both Ollie and him are newbie players

Stalemate is not a win its a draw its already said there so basically you will need a re match
@zuirenn3 жыл бұрын
By moving E6 Rook to H6, White would have won. Instead, a Stalemate was forced (how?? I have no idea) which is, as you say, a draw. But that's the thing, Ollie was dead to rights, but the match ended in a draw, keeping her in the tournament.
@InnocentC03 жыл бұрын
Rematch from dead match is a good thing. At least, you have a chance to win on new match.
@kindredspirit97033 жыл бұрын
@@zuirenn Stalemate occurs if a player has no legal moves on their turn and isn't in check. Stalemate also happens if both players only have a king (since checkmate is impossible) or if the same boardstate happens over and over again (stalemate by repetition)

Kizzie had an easy checkmate but he made a mistake and ended up with a stalemate. In chess you HAVE to move if it’s your turn but the king can’t move to a square that would put the king in check (an opponents piece is attacking the king). Kizzie accidentally put Ollie in a position where her King wasn’t in check (her kings wasn’t being attacked) but she couldn’t move to any squares because they were all in the line of fire from kizzie’s pieces so she had no legal moves. If a situation happens where a player has no legal moves to play but they’re not checkmated then it’s a stalemate which results in a draw. This was a good result for Ollie because if Kizzie checkmated her Kizzie would have won the set (best 2/3). Ollie had 1 win. Kizzie had 1 win. This was the last game but because it was a draw they both get 0.5 points. So it was 1.5 to 1.5 in a 2/3. Meaning they had to play a tiebreaker which Ollie won. I hope that makes sense.
