In the end it was Ogerpon's choice, and honestly I feel like even if Kieran won that battle I'd think Ogerpon would still want to go with the player... because you were the one who was actively going around and recollecting the masks from the 'Lousy Three' and gained a massive amount of trust. Sure, Kieran spread the truth of Ogerpon to the rest of the town around that time but... thats still a town of people that made a game of popping balloons of the pokemon and has mistreated it and sullied its name for generations. You being the outsider, the one who would care for it and take it away from Kitakami with its masks in tow is probably what does it in the end.

I would like to say I think everyone agrees that lying to Kieran was 'a dick move' and most videos of playthroughs I see mention that they would tell him the truth, but even then I would have to disagree that Ogerpon staying around is a good choice. Just because people said sorry doesn't mean Ogerpon wouldn't remember all the stuff that happened. It more than likely only stayed in the cave because the masks were being kept in the village and its where its friend had their final resting place. Ogerpon itself was travelling before it came to Kitakami, and would have probably left with their companion if the three didn't do what that did. In the end, I think we were the best choice of what they had. It was either stay in Kitakami where the village is apologetic but is using your likeness to swindle money from passerby, Go with Kieran who was going a bit weird (probably pecharunt's doing, but how was Ogerpon to know?), Go Alone in the changed world, or go with the 'Mary Sue' that just did a lot of things for them with the simple whim of 'its the right thing to do.'

You can do this as far back as gen 1, but I originally did this in gen 3.
