I'm gonna guess they were only able to get away with this because those soldiers had a code to follow. Because the protagonists hadn't used violent methods, the soldiers were not authorized to engage violently. Also, perhaps there were even discussions in their advanced society at that time about the rights of robots, and wiping out a non-violent village to recapture one just wasn't worth it.

@@FictionalReimagined An author is a wordsmith. It is an uncommon skill. You have that skill. Hone it to a razor's edge. You must become your greatest critic. Step back again and again from your writing. Separate the author in you from the audience in you - become two Totally Separated people, each living completely independently within you. Edit, then re-edit your work, until it finally expresses what the author within you yearns to say. And what the audience within you finally hears. Polish it, then let it sit before reviewing your work. You will see it with fresh eyes. When you get blocked up, it's your subconscious telling you that something is just not right. Boldly embrace your inner OCD. We all have it. It can be a stumbling block, or the stairway to excellence. Learn to make it a strength, not a shortcoming. All coins have two sides. I give you full marks for imagination and creativity. Learn to communicate your gift.
