Thanks. I've in the last few months got hooked on Chinese alternate history. Most will know but this is more real life, it's a pity that those monks (real monks) have slowly been forgotten in our world. Why because of the sacrifice needed. But dispute that they do still excite though in smaller numbers. The prob;em with the 'new' world is it's moving so fast it's starting to forget the past. Sigh everyone has started to forget the past (again) all they can see is the new path they walk on.

Really? In the past 20 years there has been a huge boost in tourism to the Shaolin temples and I would argue they are hardly forgotten by China or the world. It's true their style of martial arts is not revered as once it was, but I think it's due to the reality of its effectiveness. Shaolin martial arts is revered for its place in history but more measurably effective martial arts are today deservedly getting more attention like MMA or Thailand's kick boxing. Anyway, that's just my thoughts.

@@tioraytmI went to see them perform in a show they put on several years ago. They were amazing. Their commitment and abilities were to be lauded, even the very young monks were to be respected.

@@tioraytm Shaolin Martial Arts changed in the last century. They had methods of training for toughness and concentration coupled with an effective close quarter and weapon combat. They were influenced by exposure to the outside world. Their effective techniques were replaced by flashier ones. They are more reliant on spectacle these days. (fixed influenced)

The repetitive phrases are pretty bad but I also think the story itself is bad. The monk says he needs no weapons but I don't see unarmed monks out on the front lines against the plasma rifles the soldier had. All that balance isn't going to save you from being shot.

too damn many of these fail AI generated stories, no imagination, all with the same basic storyline, use the same names and repeat the same phrase many times in many different stories.

"the absence of his usual smirk was palpable"? Again with the "palpable". Question: How is the absence of something palpable? Answer: It's not. It might be noticeable, but certainly not palpable. You might notice the absence of fear, tension, anger, joy, etc. but none would be palpable in their absence because THEY AIN'T THERE. Learn the proper use of language. Can't finish, too much of the same bad AI vocabulary, syllable emphasis, pronunciation.
