This fact always bothered me, especially having seen Deka before SPD. Even the SPD executive producers admitted later that the ball of light idea for Omega Ranger was a bad idea. I also don't buy the "a 7th Ranger actor wasn't in the budget" argument, especially after RPM had no problem with its full cast of 7th Rangers plus other main cast members. Apparently the ball of light this was an actual conscious creative decision they made during production, and... yeah, it didn't land at all.

Jacks really shocked me when i watched S.P.D. He was a black man who had locks was from the street had a problem with authority and ain't want anything to do with the police force but stepped up did what he needed to and choose his community in the end, ment a lot to see real representation for us man was a legend 💪🏿🔥🔥🔥

Jack handing Sky his Morpher and letting him be the Red Ranger for that one time is one of my favorite SPD moments because even though Heroes comes in all colors Jack knew letting Sky be the Red Ranger for this fight was incredibly important to Sky he not only got justice for his father death but also in that moment Sky got to continue his father's legacy as the Red Ranger for this one moment 😭🤘🔥🔥

As a Power Ranger fan who's been there since the beginning I must say that Jack is the best Red Ranger and these episodes prove it. I always said Jack may not be the Red Ranger you always want, but he was the Red Ranger that was needed to get the job done.

I don't really know how to judge someone as a good red ranger, But I do know that Jack is written as probably the best team leader, we have multiple episodes of him looking out for his teammates and actually admitting to each of them when he's wrong and should've believed in them.

While my dad introduced me to the Power Rangers franchise through the original MMPR series, SPD were my childhood team… Jack Landors was my generation’s Red Ranger. He and Sky (along with Cruger) were largely the main focus on the SPD series and story and the character arcs the two went through to make that Mirlock moment so power was amazing. Jack had to learn the responsibility of power, and the importance of reading his teammates and understanding what they need (for example during the Sinuku episode when Jack went out of his way to learn why a birthday was so important after he upset Syd) and Sky had to learn how to let go of his pride and realize that his rank doesn’t necessary determine his worth. When Jack gave his morpher to Sky so Sky could finish Mirlock in the same colors as his father… it completed Jack’s arc by showing that he can now understand the needs of anyone… even Sky who was once hard to work with. And for Sky, he graciously returns Jack’s morpher to him at the end of the two parter, finally realizing that his blue rank doesn’t make him a lesser man or ranger. He recognizes what Jack did for him… and fully accepts that Cruger made the right choice. Both characters matured so much to get to this point… and man is it cathartic every time I revisit SPD to get to this point because Jack and Sky went through hell and back to finally forge the friendship that they did.

I haven't seen all of SPD's episodes, but the ones I have always have the best interactions with Jack and Sky. The first was Jack resting on his laurels about being the Red Ranger, relaxing while everyone was training. By the end, Jack is working into the night, with Sky watching him having the final vote if Jack should be kicked out or not. The next was when a friend of Sky's is a traitor, and Sky wants to bring him in alone. Jack can't let that happen due to regulations but points out things that the team does that can give Sky a few minutes to do what he needs to. These two are Yin and Yang. Two sides of the same coin that complete each other. While I haven't seen them all, this dynamic is probably the best in Power Rangers.

Among dino thunder, SPD was my personal second favorite. All the characters were perfect, every story arc was top notch, and the growth each ranger goes through makes it so worth while to watch. Especially jack and sky's relationship. Jack's line of "Heros come in all colors" is one of the best lines in the whole series.

I'm not black, so I can't relate to him on the same level you did, but I related to him in terms of character so much that I thought that while we might not share the same skin color, we share the same heart. For as powerful as this two-parter was, I feel it was a major misstep by the showrunners to not do original footage for the pre-Battlizer fight against Mirloc. Even as a kid, I found it incredibly confusing why this important battle for Sky... had the first part of it taken up by the nothing character that was the Omega Ranger. It wasn't until watching Dekaranger that I learned that this plotline was originally meant for DekaBreak (best 6th senshi imo) and the first fight was recycled Sentai footage. I feel it would've been more satisfying if Sky had been the one to stand alone against Mirloc, maybe even Jack throwing Sky the morpher near the start of the fight before being captured. It just feels a bit cheap that the first part of the episode is taken up by the wasted potential of the Omega Ranger...

Also timeforce tech is from hundreds of years ahead of SPD but they digitize the enemies in SPD and freeze the enemies in timeforce, the technology has gone backwards

I get people can get scared to know a kids show was trying something but obviously it was made to be that way especially with the two characters that were used in the scene. (which disney was known for doing alot) It makes me interested in the tension of their leader-subordinate dynamic in the beginning as deeper than disdain for each other just because he was a cop that saw him stealing then having to work with him. I've always been a bit mixed on the lesson of this two-parter. While yes, heroes do in fact come in all colors, it's dulled by the fact that until they get SWAT mode, Jack is the only one who can use the battlizer, effectively lowering the combined potential strength of team. Note that this whole conflict only started when Sky was told only the red ranger was compatible with the battlizer technology. If all the rangers had access to it, he wouldn't care about the whole "I'm blue and you're red" thing again. Heroes may comes in all colors, but as we see here, some colors are better than others.

Honestly, in ANY proper reality, Sky would've been chosen as the Red Ranger. His superior experience, respect for the role, and general professionalism made him the most natural choice--as opposed to Jack's untrained, rule-breaking, out-of-the-box, diamond-in-the-rough persona. We all know that Jack only got the role so that the screenwriters could milk the (admittedly great) tension between him and Sky and play out the common trope of elevating the most uncommon or unexpected individual to leadership to build drama.
