I think I’d pay more attention to a Goliath sized beetle flying around than a small drone. A drone could be someone’s toy, but if I saw a giant beetle I’d be like “Holy crap, what was that?” And then I would chase it because I want it.

Speaking of the USA, it’d be cool if you covered the giant beetles found there. Most Americans associate giant beetles with exotic pets from tropical regions, completely forgetting about eastern Hercules beetles, ox beetles, and elk stag beetles.

I heard that insects do react to the influence of outside world, but they don't feel pain, their bodies react but not them, is it right? Or I just confused them with crabs?
@beetlecast2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry that I can't give a good answer to this right now but whether or not arthropods, in general, feel pain is a hotly debated topic. Pain outside of humans is really hard to define and determine especially since there's numerous arguments and definitions. The wikipedia page on "Pain in invertebrates" is a fun read and honestly I'll probably make a video on this topic because it's such an interesting one! Thank you for the question

Very interesting but why would anybody want to control a beetle? For any use I can see for it, there already exists far better, more effective methods.
@beetlecast2 жыл бұрын
Possible uses are for surveillance and search-and-rescue missions but you do have a point in that drones of their size can effectively accomplish the same thing. The idea was that miniature robots that size are energetically expensive to fly and if you can get a biological system to do the flying part then you can allocate more electricity and energy to the applicative stuff like controlling, thermal sensing, recording etc.
