I support you fully in your sobriety. I pray that the Lord removes the desire to drink and smoke from you completely. We all know that we don't drink because we like the taste of liquor. I pray that whatever your reasons for indulging are, that they will be plucked at the root and exposed of, and subsequently decomposed of expeditiously. I pray that He sends you the right support system. The support system that you need to aid you in this process. A support system that will not judge you, but those who will love you and support you completely because they know what it is to struggle with an addiction, or they fully empathize with those that do. I pray that no trick that the devil may use to lure you back into those habits will work. I'm so proud of you! Your week or so of abstaining means more than you may know right now. Believe it or not, it is an inspiration to those who have not yet gotten to that point. May the Lord bless and keep you in your journey. May He strengthen you when you fall short of your goal such that you will not give up on yourself, but rather renew your mind daily as He says in His Word. Keep fighting. He loves you. Some of us who "know you" without really "knowing you", love you, and we're looking forward to you coming out on the other side of this thing. And you will. God has decreed it...and I boldly declare it! Blessings and prayers to you. I know you can do it. I'm looking forward to your updates. Keep fighting. Your fighting muscles will not atrophy as long as you are using them. You're stronger than you think. I can't wait to have you welcome me and others into a sober life. I'm waiting, as are so many others. You're built for this. Xoxo🥰💖

Some people start drinking to mask problems in their lives. They want to stop but if they do stop, the problems become more prominent, so they start drinking again, to dull their troubles. For some, it's a vicious circle they can't escape from.

I’m one day sober as of yesterday. I almost broke that when a thought entered my mind to pickup 4 mini whine bottles while driving home. I switched lanes to pull into the gas station, justifying its not liquor and needing to taper off, but once I recognized the urge (the urge being the rush of alcohol hitting my bloodstream and sedating me) I switched back the lane and decided to go home. Feelings of regret of not having a drink were present, like I was missing out on something. But I had to tell myself that sobriety had to start somewhere so the muscles start developing. Mindfulness from my last rehab taught me you somewhat have to embrace and accept the discomfort and not use strict willpower to suppress it, surf the waves instead of trying to stop it. It’s already getting easier in day two and I slept my ass off for the first time in a long while

I battled alcoholism in my 30s. Didn't drink for 2 years after that. It's hard...but not in the way you think. Not drinking alcohol was easy for me. The hard part was dealing with life & problems afterwards. You're forced to look at everything but IT'S 1000% WORTH IT! Instead of drinking, I started painting & writing. Found more of myself & got my act together. Anytime I had any kind of craving, which I don't remember having, but if I thought about it, I would remember when I hit rock bottom. My lowest & how sick and gross I felt. I never wanted to feel that way again so it started to disgust me. I drank here & there over the years since then but 1 beer or a glass of wine. I would limit myself & not go to places where alcohol was usually the focus. In my late 40s & haven't had a drop in 2 years & I'm loving it! Gardening is my new passion! Ive seen so many lives destroyed, relationships end, and too many people get sick or die from it, to let it be a part of my life anymore. I wish all the best to anyone trying to quit. You can do it! Good luck to all! ❤

@@serapiopena2776 I technically did. But my depression comes out of me as anger. This took a while to figure out but after a dislocated shoulder I started to understand that the alcohol was reassigning my emotions to react in unpredictable ways. Some people cry. I tend to want to kill shit. This makes it hard to figure out. Think of alcoholism like a terrain. When you drink the weeds get really high and they cover up your issues so you can't see them. Once you stop(It may take 8/10 months) your terrain will clear up and you will be able to see exactly what you need to focus on. It just makes things very clear what to do. Anxiety is raise by alcohol being processed through your body. It will feel like it goes up at first because you've never dealt with your problems head on. You'll be a raw nerve. It takes practice like anything. Like going to the gym you need to put in the reps. The gains you will receive is immeasurable! Keep watching Leon's stuff-very educational.! I am 40 days dry. I have found that I am less emotional. I sleep better. No constant trips to the bathroom during the night. I waken up and feel ready to go to work (as a taxi driver). My earnings have increased. Getting out to work earlier. No waiting until I think that the alcohol has cleared my body before I drive( usually 2pm). No stopping early and going to the pub for 8pm. Being self employed, it was so easy to knock off early. I have started taking care of myself. Changed my diet, walking to places that I would normally drive. Today I am going to the gym for the first time in 6 years. I am feeling good about myself. I have lost 14lbs in those 40 days. YOU CAN CHANGE. GO ON TRY IT.

Figure out why your over drinking. It is usually from childhood abandonment, neglect, abuse, alcoholic parents, etc. our parents were doing what their parents did. Once I began to love and accept myself it changed everything. The shame and low self worth eventually faded away there was no need for numbing anymore.

I’m about to be 25 and I didn’t start drinking until I ended a 6 year relationship when I was 20. Both the worst decisions of my life. I went through all of my teenage years without a drop of alcohol, but then got into a toxic relationship with a heavy drinker and only did it because I wanted to “look cool” & “fit in” with his friends.. now it’s 5 years later and I drink 2-3 sleeves a day for no reason at all and I constantly feel like shit mentally and physically. I am absolutely done! I haven’t had more then a single beer in the past week, and I plan on keeping it that way rolling into 2022! Good luck everyone! We got this!

I am tired of the hangovers, anxiety and just feeling like shit for a few days after drinking. I am starting to blackout more and more and have memory loss from binge drinking. I think it happens to alot of us as we get older. I'm 51 and I drank every Friday and Saturday night my entire adult life. Rarely during the week after my mid 20s. Then around your age, the hangovers just got to the point where it wasnt worth it anymore. Even drinking 5 or 6 beers, which was noting for me, would make me sluggish, and thirsty and lazzy the next day. If I drank heavy forget about it, I ddidnt do anything. Now at 51, I still like to drink but its along the lines of 2 or 3 beers on Saturday, since I dont go to the gym or work on Sundays. I never made a conscience decision to quit or cut back, it just happened as I got older. I also simply dont enjoy being drunk like I once did.

I’m a recovered methamphetamine addict. A couple years later I moved in with someone who drinks quite a bit. Considering I have an addictive mindset, drinking became a habit for me as I would drink with them. I started staying up later and drinking every night getting so smashed so i could knock out hard. It took a terrible toll on my body and made me gain weight. I quickly decided I didn’t want that life for myself I didn’t wanna feel sick everyday of my life until I had my first drink. So I stopped but it isn’t that easy for everyone. I mean I still drink and I’m slowly stopping but at least as of right now I’m not getting smashed everyday like I used to. It just takes will power and actually wanting something. Everytime I try to think about drinking especially by myself. I think of the life I want if I don’t drink and stick to that. I've been sober since November 15, 2020 after 40 years of drunkenness almost in a daily basis but I was good in hiding my alcoholism. I always maintained a sense of dignity. I never walked drunk or had slurred speech because I knew drunk people look disgusting. If I wanted to drink heavy I drunk in my bedroom alone so nobody could see me get really wasted. My average alcohol consumption was 12 packs of beer or 1/2 bottle of 1.75 liter of tequila or Jack Daniels or Johnny Walker. I wasn't choosy as long as it has a high contents of alcohol, it was good enough for me. It wasn't easy to stopped. I have experienced tremors and many sleepless nights but I had to stop drinking because of health issues and I was really disgusted looking at myself in the mirror. I was a functioning alcoholic. I would put alcohol in paper cups to appear it was soda or coffee and would sneak in alcohol while watching a movie at movie theaters. I never want to go back to my old habits of drinking but I must say I miss it. The urge to buy alcohol in convenient stores every time I put gas is overwhelming but I haven't gave in or relapsed so far. It was easier to control my drinking when I had my kids with me because I never want them to smell my breath of alcohol just like when I used to smell my father and older brothers alcohol breath but the kids are all adults now and have moved out and they don't need me anymore. I wish even one of them would live with me because I miss them. But I guess this is just the cycle of life...have kids, raise them to be independent then they leave when they get older. I wished they didn't have to grow up because we were happier when they were little.

If I don't have to work the next day, & my wife does, I'll stay up in the LR watch TV, play mobile games, & DRINK. I will be pretty poop face @ 5am when the wife is getting up for work. Annoying as hell, waking up in the floor. My kids are also grown. I hold down a full time dam good job, & a pretty normal life until 5pm comes, & then, & then I feel NOW its getting out of control. My bloodwork at my yearly was terrible, my liver is doing so good after 10-15yrs of this mess. When you said you have the urge to buy beer at the gas station, yeah that gets me every time. I stop & buy, & end up needing someone to go back. My wife does like to drink, but I take that shit to another level. Maybe we could PEN PAL each other somehow, if your up to it. Either way, I appreciate your honesty & your comment.

@@jasonSC01 Apologies for late response. I just read your message just now. It helps a lot to have a support system and to keep yourself accountable when dealing with alcoholism. The desire to consume alcohol diminished in time, at least in my case. What I find really helpful with my struggle with alcoholism & life issues in general is to take care of my health by eating healthy and regular exercise...like walking and get plenty of sleep. You would need to be healthy physically, spiritually & mentally to battle against alcoholism. It helps me a lot to listen to the teachings of Christ. Listening to audio books like The Imitation Of Christ is a good start. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3-5hXVne9itsMU It also helped me a lot to get a restful 8 hours of deep sleep when I drink Bigelow Sweet Dreams Herbal Tea Bags, Caffeine Free Herbal Tea, 120 Tea Bags. ($16 at Amazon). I can relate to your struggle with alcohol and the time lost with your children. Those time will never be recovered but God is good and He allows us to start all over again. Tomorrow will give all of us a chance to start a new beginning. Being sober is really worth it. I have not touched alcohol since November 2020. I see cold beer when I stopped for gas but I don't have cravings unlike before. It gets better in time. Please know that you will heal even when it may look dim at this time and always be mindful that relapse is part of the recovery, but luckily I have not relapsed yet. They said alcoholic will remain recovering alcoholic for life, so alcohol at all even small amount. Of course, it would be entirely up to you. I'd be glad to be penpals with you and exchange our progress if you're up to it. I may take me a few days to respond because of my busy schedule but I will respond. I'd like to thank you for taking interest and appreciated the struggle I've been going through. It could be tough doing it alone. I've been divorced for a long time and my grown children don't know about my alcoholism and I don't want them to know. I remember being so disgusted with my father every time I saw him drunk. I was so critical of him but I became just like him...probably worse. But I continue to fight and life is beautiful being sober.

You have so much strength, John. For you to go from that level of alcoholism to sobriety and then to maintain it ... wow! you have what it takes. It's tough that you miss your kids. I wonder if you could arrange some occasions like having them round for a coffee. They are probably busy like most young people so if you have get togethers that are brief, it would probably be more workable for them. I wish you well.

I just quit drinking a few weeks ago and feel amazing. It’s different for everyone but for me even small amounts regularly were massively holding me back and draining my daily mood, sleep and energy. I had this huge realization one day when I thought about why do those in power let the common people drink alcohol but not necessarily do other similarly intoxicating drugs. It immediately hit. It’s obvious. Those in power use alcohol as a weapon against the poor and everyone below them to keep them down and lazy, not fulfilling their full potential or developing. A culture of alcoholism celebrates stupidity and all the wrong degenerate values they want to replace the traditional nuclear family with. So alcohol and TV are actually their biggest tools in maintaining control as it keeps enough of the masses down from wanting a better, less corrupt way of life that would benefit all more.

Drank my first beer 🍺 at age 13 coming from a Mexican culture drinking & family parties go hand in hand, indulged in alcohol in my teen years, by the time I was 21 I was already accustomed. You see the fights, the arguments & the detrimental decisions you make & others make while under the influence, once the hangovers came in after my 20’s I started to think of my drinking in a more profound way, & saw more to life than Recovering from Monday to Wednesday just to feel Normal for about a day then back to drinking again Friday to start another weekend of drinking. I gained weight my face got puffy & I was simply not the best version of myself due to my own decisions, the social aspect of alcohol consumption is what draws most people in, the lively drinking party atmosphere where a sense of belonging is a lure that leads a lot down a long life of drinking and health complications later on. I have many friends who drink & I respect others choices to do so but it’s an endless cycle that truly only presents itself to pull from your pocket 💰 and pull from your health. I encourage everyone to cut down if not completely stop for proper longevity in ones life, if your trying to quit you can do it if your struggling you also can do it! God bless 🙏🏻

I’m 28 and I was never a big drinker until about 3 years ago. I started getting horrible anxiety and drinking was the only thing that made it completely go away. I was prescribed meds and went to therapy but none of that helped so I continued to drink. About a year ago I started noticing my anxiety getting worse even while I was drinking. I felt I had to drink more than I usually did to get to that feeling of peace. It eventually got to the point where I was spending $50+ a day just to feel “normal.” From the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep I was drinking. I had to drink in the morning because my hangovers were so awful and I needed that hair of the dog just to even be a person. I had to call off work countless of times. What you said about holding onto the “benefits” is so true. I started to cut back a few months ago because I knew there was no way I could just stop instantly. It’s now been one week since my last drink. Wish me luck.

@@Brunx-pe2pc I didn’t have a drink for 6 months after I posted that comment a year ago and it fixed me. Anxiety was lowered tremendously and I stopped procrastinating. I realized I just fell into a really bad habit and not to sound dramatic but everything in my life back then was a mess. Literally everything. So instead of facing them head on I just took to booze and got way too carried away. After I stopped, everything became much clearer. Don’t get me wrong the first couple weeks were hell and the cravings for sugar were immense but I lived. Then I woke up one day not feeling awful, my liver and mind and everything finally recovered. I was so happy to not feel like complete shit and it motivated me like crazy to get my life back and I did. I still drink on occasion but I don’t think about it all the time like I did before. @@nxgdeezy7406I pretty much just went from drinking every Friday and Saturday to just drinking on Saturdays and now I'm going to start doing every other Saturday. A couple of months ago I went about 3 weeks and it was nice to have that little break. Also I'm much more likely to stay home when I do drink which causes me to not drink as much and not spend as much. I want to be able to just drink on special occasions but I tried that before and all the sudden I rationalized everything into a special occasion. Oh I got off early on a Friday that's a good excuse to drink. Oh my wife has Saturday off this week which doesn't happen that often. Oh it's going to be a nice out this weekend sounds like a good time to sit out back and sip a glass of Whiskey. One thing that has been helping me is that the wife and I are finally getting our money under control and got on a budget and I see that for every 20 bucks that I don't waste on a case of beer I can use that money for something more productive and important when I used to just go easily spend a hundred bucks at the liquor store every weekend without even thinking about it and then wonder why we were broke by the end of the weekend lol

40 years old. Started at 13 when I was having massive home and school life issues. This turned into drugs at raves for 4 years but grew out of that. Alcohol is a massive part of my life and I've tried stopping but I go back to it a day or so later. I can imagine life without. It makes me confident, life and soul of the party, outgoing and funny... the kind of guy I wish I was sober. But on the flip side, I've been in really dangerous places or situations that normal me would of avoided like the plague. I can't relax after work without it, it helps me sleep and unwind. 27 years and I've not had any health scares and look really healthy. Mates are all grey with wrinkles and I've not got a single grey hair and barely any wrinkles. I want to be able to drink on special occasions but truth is, I actually enjoy it. I've got to a point where I'm at work and just think about going home alone to a freezing cold beer, and when I do, and take that first sip,it makes me feel amazing and alive. I was introduced to it from a young age, 6 years old drinking at Christmas and then if I weren't camping,my dad would share one with me. 13 is when I drank more but it's almost out of control now. I've always held down a full time job and still go about my daily chores. Although the past few years I've been getting migranes and the past year they've become so severe over my right eye, that my whole right side of my face goes numb. Am I beyond help?

@Luis Phillipe Dear Luis... I'd recommend just going to AA. The very worst thing that's going to happen is that you'll come home via the "Off Licence" (aka "Liquor Store")... it's no worse than what was going to happen anyway. If you don't want to declare yourself as an "alcoholic" just say you're a newcomer. Some people do it for years. The bottom line is, if you can't stay sober in between meetings, you just keep showing up until you can. You got nothing to lose, you have... if not "everything" to gain, but certainly a whole lot more than what you currently have. Make sense? 😌

@Luis Phillipe Hi Luis, As I say, just go along to some meetings. I'd hold back from "sharing" until you've been to a couple of them, but the important thing is to just go along. *The same part of your brain that tells you to not try something new, is the same part of your brain that tells you to just go buy some booze and forget about everything.* It beats sitting at home, waiting for some flash of divine inspiration that NEVER materialises. Look up a movie called "My Name is Joe" and watch the first three minutes. I understand that, rather than hiring extras, they just filmed it in an actual AA meeting.
