Does each yogurt batch need to be made from plain yogurt? Thank you keeping the goof in your video.😉👍🏽 I haven't made yogurt yet but I WILL be making it in the future. My husband surprised me at Christmas w/an Instant Pot. He & our youngest daughter braved Christmas shopping a couple days before Christmas bc he & I had been looking at IPs about a week earlier. I've wanted one but keep putting off the cost of the purchase for the last 3-4yrs. And, I wasn't sure whether I wanted the 3qt or 6qt since it's just the two of us. Needless to say, I have the 6qt & I'm glad he chose it over the 3qt.

Does the alcohol content in the extract kill some of the beneficial bacteria in the yogurt? I think it does, which is why I am looking into flavoring with vanilla powder. I tried a ground-up vanilla bean once, but I prefer a smooth yogurt. Perhaps flavored syrups might be better if, indeed, the alcohol from the extract is killing the bacteria in the yogurt.

How would you add fruit flavorings? Could you just use some Simply Fruit spread or the real thing (fruit)? I love your video. Such an interesting use for the instant pot. So much cheaper than the store and that's an understatement. How do you know it's Greek Yogurt. I like Greek Yogurt for the texture and the high protein. Have you ever tried 2% or skim milk? Do you think it would turn out the same with just less calories? I realize this is way too many questions but you've gotten me excited about making Greek Yogurt from milk.
@clearingclutterforclarity15086 жыл бұрын
Not a problem, and thank you. You could add any type of flavoring you want once the yogurt is made. Greek yogurt is thicker in consistency because a lot of the whey has been strained out. Yes, I've made yogurt with 2% milk. Mine turned out a little thinner and not as rich tasting. As it has less fat and calories to start with, so would the yogurt. Have you tried making yogurt yet? :)
@galememeeof66886 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the answers. I got the milk and a little container of Greek yogurt with active cultures so I'm about ready to try it.

How long does the reserved yogurt (the bit you saved for the next batch of yogurt)stay in the refrigerator before it goes bad?

I have kept mine for about 10 days at the most as I usually make a new batch every 7-10 days. I've read that the starter can be frozen if you don't need it so soon.

I use stevia to sweeten(I also use vanilla) my yogurt. I also add it after the cooling process and before the 8 hour yogurt cooking. Turns out great...is there any reason you wait until the end to flavor it?
@clearingclutterforclarity15086 жыл бұрын
When I learned how to make yogurt, the rule was to not sweeten before culturing. Although by your experience it does work this way, I would still flavor the yogurt after straining to not lose any of my precious (expensive) vanilla extract or agave with the whey, assuming this is what would happen. Glad you found something that works for you!
@nicholascgoss6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve tried adding vanilla and stevia before the yogurt sets for 8 hours and fails every time. Sugar before 8 hours works fine but the stevia tastes bitter. Also the vanilla flavour disappears no matter what when I add before the 8 hour set. So I’m going to try it next time after the 8 hour set. I’m just really worried that melting stevia in hot water will then cause the yogurt to be runny or less thick? Mind you my yogurt is so thick you could use it as bricks to build a house so....
@bnjclary5 жыл бұрын
Just read this on that subject.... " There is a lot of sugar in milk. Cow's milk is 4-5% sugar. Additionally, giving the bacteria more to eat would allow them to create more acid and make the product more sour not less"
@EMBANUT4 жыл бұрын
I think one of the reasons why they advise not to add flour before hours of culturing, is that you'll be able to get a starter for another batch.

I am having a hard time finding a lemon or lime flavor yogurt. This is the only video I can find on how to flavor it. So Delicious makes a plain yogurt in dairy free and I am ttying to find out how to flavor a dairy free yogurt that is already made. This is a help, because I don't have time to make my own and I am on a low protein diet, most of the lemon flavor even lime flavor yogurts are dairy yogurts or greek yogurts which are to high in protein for me. I have the sane issue with soy.

Ive been adding stevia and vanilla when I actually make the yogurt not after like you and it’s been turning out horrible! When I add sugar at time of making yogurt it works fine but anything else, xylitol or stevia and the flavour goes bad even bitter. Next I will try adding Agave and vanilla AFTER I make the yogurt and see if a difference.

whats agave?
@clearingclutterforclarity15086 жыл бұрын
Agave is a plant sort of like a cactus. If you do a web search for it you can see pictures. Tequila is made from it as well as agave nectar which is sweeter than sugar. There are different types of agave.

If you use honey, add it only when you are ready to eat the yogurt otherwise the properties in honey will kill the bacteria in the yogurt and it will taste off.
@jakethesnake955 жыл бұрын
@@clearingclutterforclarity1508 Would you do the same with sugar? I've heard that sugar can kill the bacteria that are in the yogurt.
@SocietyofEnoch Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your well made how to video, however I have a comment I hope you will take as educational and not as a criticism. I assume you do not understand how unhealthy Agave is, especially compared to other common sweeteners. Agave is 90% Fructose 10% Glucose, very unhealthy. All the Fructose we consume is turned into fat in the liver, which is the only place the body that can process it. High Fructose corn syrup is 55% Fructose 45% Glucose. Table sugar is 50% Fructose 50% Glucose. I believe Monk's fruit and Erythratol, which contain neither, are the best options for getting a familiar flavor and sweetness in your foods without negative health consequences.

I think it's a personal preference. Sorry, I've never done this before. If you don't melt them, you'll have hard chocolate chips, and if they are melted...I'm not sure how it will turn out. @clearingclutterforclarity15084 жыл бұрын

@@clearingclutterforclarity1508 yes. That's what in the yogurt starter that makes more yogurt. I don't sacrifice any yogurt. I just strain it to make Greek yogurt then use the whey as my next starter. It only works with plain yogurt of course.
