When To Choose Automatic or Non-automatic Pumps

The integral switches are the Achilles heel of many pump designs. Most will just replace the whole pump when the switch craps out. I always use tethered float switches.

This is great advice. Use a tethered float switch through an SJ Rhombus cable tie around the pvc pipe. The "piggy back" float switch has the pump plugged into it. Use an LED plug on the pump and another LED plug on the open outlet to instantly diagnose the three failure modes -- no power, bad switch, or bad pump. Keep a spare switch near the pump.

If you have a smaller pit, you can still use the non-automatic zoeller pump with a level guard switch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ3dnKhmoZd1nLM The level guard switch zip ties to your ejector pipe and you can set the height to whatever you need without the worry of a tether switch needing a large radius. There are 2 points of contact with rain water that activates the power. This allows for the pump to run longer and less cycles. My pit is configured using a Zoeller N95 w/level guard and haven't looked back. Also have a sump pro battery back-up for the N95 if the power failures. If something were to happen to the N95, I have Zoeller 508-0006 Aquanot 508. This is the overall ultimate "Cadillac" set up in my opinion. You can't put a price tag on rain water removal and will never use anything but Zoellers.

What would you consider a larger pit. Mine is currently 18” x 24” Depth. Looking to install 2 pumps inside...

So for some of our smaller sump pumps we'd recommend our 30" x 36" basins for a duplex configuration. It would really depend on your system. What is considered a small pit versus a large pit? It would be helpful to give a general guideline range of small v. large pits.

Is there a fuse somewhere

Hello Danny, there is no fuse in the pump but it does have thermal overload protection in it. This will open up when the pump gets hot and then close when the pump properly cools again.

My pump had something stuck in the perpeller and know it won't run

If there is something stuck in the impeller, I would recommend removing it and then seeing if the pump will run. if this will not solve the issue and the pump still will not operate, I fear that you may have motor damage in the pump and it will need to be replaced.
