I always told my kids when they played sports "play until it isn't fun any more...when it stops being fun, you don't enjoy it".... when you have "too much and too many" it's no longer fun... don't feel bad about trimming down your tanks until you get to where you can enjoy them again... When you enjoy what you do.... we enjoy watching you!!!! :)

I took my 9 gallon Flex to work to replace a little 5 gallon I had there that had a noisy filter that I couldn’t manage to stop the rattle on. I’m loving the Flex on my desk as it is silent and really beautiful. I also have two 15 gallon Flex’s at home and I reallly love them. I find that maintenance is much easier on the Flex tanks, but I don’t have the algae problems you’ve run into. I know what you mean about MTS, sometimes the aquariums become a chose instead of an enjoyable hobby. (She says as she sets up a new 16 gallon Flex.)

wow this hobby has been revolutionized by utube, i have been a fish freak since i was 11(got a 36*18*15 tank for xmas), and fishkeeping is more addictive than heroin. i kept every kind of fish until i found the south american cichlids, and cichlids in general african too. i turned my hobby into a business by breeding cichlids for 5 years when i was 15-20 y/o. made good money at doing specalist fish that were not readily available in the hobby in the late 80s early 90s. with the help of some of the coolest, most generous and thoughtful ppl in the hobby in Ireland(dave whelan of trop shop) to name 1, talk ab a fish guru, this guy embodied all the good in the hobby, any1 who knew him knows what a true gent he was!!! am getting back into it to show my kids the joy of fishkeeping.. love the good info and tips available on channels like urs, so ty

I also like having one large, awesome aquarium. I've dabbled in the nano tanks you seem to love so much and have not had good fortune with them. Maybe the included filters were just not very good. I know that one small mechanical filter unit I had only seemed to make water quality worse and not better. But my one running tank now is a 75 gallon loaded with fish, crustacea, snails, plants and rocks and other mostly natural decor, and it's pretty nice. It's stable and does not even have algae growth. Incidentally, it's also one I had been using for saltwater for a while prior, and I basically just made a rapid transition to fresh when the time came. Even kept the sand.

I have had aquariums all my life and I decided to do a paludarium at age 66..it changed me to see and appreciate terrestrial plants and try to grow emmersed water species I already have.temple plant or hygrophila cambrosa is growing in IT out of the water..but staying wet from roots up on leaves due to humidity and dripping water from the fake foam background with plants showing growth.I'm digging it

I agree. At my height I had 10 aquariums and spent a chunk of time every Sunday taking care of them. I currently have two, a 65 gallon and a 72 gallon and I'm going to consolidate them into a 125 gallon and have just one really nice display tank and set up a quarantine tank and call it good. After over 30 years of fish keeping, I'd rather have one good tank that I can devote my time and attention on instead of spreading it out among multiple tanks that are only so/so at best.

Board games = fish tanks = Chess board tank. A tank I've always wanted to do is to set up a chess game, either in-progress or at checkmate, inside a tank. My thought was that as chess -can- take a long time to play, the setup would reflect that by havind the tiles of the board "broken up" by plants growing between them. When I first thought of this, I knew practically nothing about keeping plants in an aquarium, so I put the project onto the back burner. Now though, I have all new ideas for this project... just have to come up with the right chess set and a tank large enough to set it up properly. South-East Asian tropical fish to stock it, because, Chess. ;) If you want to use this concept, Sean, go for it! Cheers!

You deserve way more than 30k subs, you're one of my favorite aquarium channels. I totally agree with the one big tank thing, I had several small tanks and I prefer maintaining and enjoying the one bigger tank and it's probably better for the inhabitants since I pour all my energy into the one tank. My apartment was slowly being taken over by aquariums it was pretty crazy, when I get a house I plan on building one giant tank into a wall and that'll be it, maybe a saltwater tank as well. I know it's a lot of work making content on top of your day job but know we all appreciate your videos and insight. When I was first getting into this hobby I used your videos and others to help me get started. A lot of the channels I follow that helped me get started are commenting on this very video lol Mass Aquariums is one of them, I followed Rachel O'Leary since her channel was made and learned a lot from her aquascapes back in the day and many more. Anyway, know you're appreciated!

Congratulations on 30,000 Sean. That's a huge milestone and I have to say it's well deserved. I've been watching your videos for the past year and you always inspire me to try new things with my aquarium hobby. 😊 Matter of fact, I too recently decided I've got too many tanks to "enjoy" so I bought a new 40gal at PetCo in an attempt to maybe combine some of the smaller ones. Not sure if or how that's gonna work. Or if that was even a good idea. After watching this video I may try the "tank-ception" somewhere. HaHa 🧐 Thanks again Sean and have a blessed week!

If I had the space in my apartment, I wouldn't mind a bigger third fish tank. But like you said you never really have time to enjoy sitting down and watch the fish and shrimp in the tanks. Sometimes I feel the only time I watch the tanks, is when I do water change, add new plants, fish, shrimp etc. Or when I feed them. I'm amazed that you have time to maintain the fish tanks and enjoy all the tanks you have. Obviously you have a KZbin channel, so one or two fish tanks probably wouldn't be interesting to watch for us that follow your channel. Is the large aquarium in your basement or hobbyroom in the basement? I would probably bring up the large aquarium in my living room up on the first floor to sit and enjoy it while watching or reading a book, and the smaller ones you breed various fishes and shrimp in or use for KZbin channel bring those down in the basement

Shrimp and most inverts tend to get depressed and suicidal without substrate. That's why they're often shipped in bags with plants or a sponge. That's probably why they are congregating in the small tank within.

Wouldn't the shrimp die out in the pond due to cold temperatures? I also have two questions about my own fish tanks. I have an approx 14 US gallon heavily planted fish tank with an ancistrus catfish and x amount of red cherry shrimp and some 15- 20 Amanda tetras. Can I add more Amanda tetras into the tank without damaging the existing community or group of Amanda's and not damaging the environment in the fish tank? I also have a 3 US gallon planted fish tank with red cherry shrimp. How many red cherry shrimp would you recommend in a 3 gallon tank?

Thanks for sharing. Wish you lived near me when getting rid of tanks. I need a cheap due to age (not construction) maybe 35 gal+ for young orchids for holding over the winter and maybe a 5 or 10 for sick or weak orchids. I don’t care if it has small leak - obviously no cracks or anything dangerous that would fall apart moving but doesn’t need to be water tight. I have checked our local craigslist, goodwill etc but so far everything has been pretty expensive $100s even into the $1000s due to them not wanting to sell separate from all the accessories you need for fish from stands or cabinets to fancy pumps and filtration systems etc. Most seem to be getting out all together including fish - moving, divorce, etc. I just need a tank, light and cover to maintain humidity, light that can hold full spectrum plant growth bulbs (pref led) and that’s it. I will need to get air circulation somehow with a small clip on fan. Maybe clear visibility non glass so not so heavy but don’t really care if glass or plexiglass or whatever they use now days. If I could just get the tank the rest I could deal with finding the rest though it would be helpful to have the cover etc that fits the tank for sure. Also could use some driftwood - used pref so I don’t have to soak so much - for mounts. At the right price - could use a fair amount of this. Anyone have any suggestions for me - do you think a club would be a good source? Thanks.. PS, if I use say 10 or 15 but on their side to accommodate flower spikes,, does anyone know how to make or attach doors and then what to do with light. If there is something else besides an aquarium that might work, let me know. I will keep looking. I also need a way to aerate my 32 gal rain water storage to increase total dissolved oxygen but want lots of fine bubbles - maybe a wand or curtain. I had tanks and bred betas and angels 30 + yrs ago and boy the fish world has changed and exploded. We just had what the local fish store had...unless you traveled to big shows. No internet in mid 70s-early 80s Thanks

I can relate to catching fish being a PITA. Two weeks ago I had to do a substrate swap on a tank that I couldn't vacuum well and it got really nasty. The actual substrate change was done fairly quickly, but catching the fish and shrimp (twice) and moving way too many assassin snails took hours.

Hi,, congrats on the 30k. I know where your at with to many tanks. I've not as many as you, but there's a limit of 4 aquariums and the new biopod grand(paladarium setup) in my house.... I have gone over that limit and have had to rationalise some of them, so thought a good idea would to be to combine the volume of the all the 3 small tanks into one new scape and managed to get an ADA 60P and a, complete ADA setup with a big discount which is happening this week. The funny thing is the better half has decided that I must now keep two of the three I was going too reduce as they are too nice or have memories(one was the tank she bought me that got one into aquascaping) so I've not really reduced the numbers, just created more maintenance.... At one point we were chatting about the biopod as your video inspired more to buy one and you said to send images or video of the results. Keep at it and respect for the purge

Sad you threw those plants out. id gladly deal with algae to keep some plants. the only way i can get pants is online and im usually broke so i value any plants that look like they might live.

LOL. Life of an aquarium youtuber. I hear you. I've found that I tend to take down tanks once they've 'matured', just to move on to a new project that I can document on youtube.
