There is a 10acre field on a hilltop that has grown up over the years with smaller trees reclaiming the field with scrapes scattered throughout the original field edge where deer are in mild cover from where the trees are growing sparsely then a smaller one acre field around 150 yards from the other being reclaimed by trees as well with 3 scrapes in tight succession. With that many scrapes on the same field I would think they would have to visit some of them during the day around 15 scrapes in total. Public land(not heavily hunted)

Funny you should mention that. Last weekend I found a scrape by pure accident. I rattled a small buck in coming from bedding and the 2nd buck was heading towards bedding. Naturally that peaked my curiosity. At noon I got down and about 100 yards or so I found a scrape. I stopped and asked myself why is this scrape here? I put all the pieces together. 1. It’s near a collision of trails where I was hunting over. 2. It is on the edge of a ridge. 3. It is one the edge between doe beds and thick cover. 4. It’s a morning sit. I’ve only gotten trail footage from 4am - 1030am. 5. Only 5 Acorn trees until the next 150 yards or so. 6. Judging by the ground there is currently no hunting pressure yet.

I’ve had the exact same scrape active during late October and first week of November, same spot as previous years , how important is that well established scrape to hunt near? Or is it just a community scrape
@beforetheecho6 ай бұрын
I'd for sure pay attention to it if it's near bedding or the bucks are hitting it in daylight

Here’s my question, would you sit on the cornfield edge with multiple scrapes on it next to doe bedding, or on the riverbed scrape between high stem count bedding? Neither that far apart
@americanagothic78512 жыл бұрын
I’m not Dan or Josh but I most likely would not hunt the corn field scrapes especially if it’s public.

@@vog7271 is it pressured? Worth a shot if not. Do you have daytime pics of bucks rubbing and scraping the corn field line?

@@americanagothic7851 Not necessarily hunting pressure but the neighbors walk the property and it gets some farm pressure. Just found the scrapes and threw a camera up. Haven’t been out since. I’m guessing it’s mostly nocturnal, but I shot a 10 point on the same transition last year

They are all good areas, pick your best spot for wind !!! Alot of times scrapes can be hit or miss. I've seen a lot of times where scrapes are hit at night

You are so right. It was virtually impossible for anyone to kill a deer before these guys came along.

Some areas are breeding scrapes set up by mature does - the bucks get worked up when does establish these in historical locations year in and year out. Those scrapes are primary or breeding scrapes - good discussion guys

Who knows. Seen a doe working scrapes, does being breed in October and 30 pound fawns in November. This is not an exact science. Good luck

The science is the cold. A fawn can it be born to late or it does or to early or it does. That's depending on the geographical location. Northern Michigan has a small window of breeding because of cold. The deer breed to give the fawn the best changes of survival.

Northern Indiana yesterday Nov 11 found multiple fresh scrapes & watched a 2 1/2 to 3 1/2yo buck work a scrape. Tagged out Nov 3 on a Mature 10 PT that worked a scrape was in thick cover on heavily hunted public but there are a lot of deer !
