When should you quit your job? This is one of the most common questions we have received on this channel so far, and so I thought I'd address it in this video.
💰 WHERE WE HOLD CRYPTO: bit.ly/abun-blockfi
Get up to $250 in free Bitcoin on your first deposit, and earn up to 7.50% APY in interest on your holdings, by signing up via the link above.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, or a specific framework. Simply because I can't tailor a set of rules around when YOU should quit your job, based on your very specific circumstances. But thinking back to when I quit my job in the past to work on my passion full time, I remember what worked for me... and also, what I've learned since then.
So if you're thinking about the big question of "When should I quit my job?", hopefully this video will help. And as always, let me know below if you have any questions. Always happy to answer.
Please enjoy!

I lost my job two months ago and started helping a friend with her business. That led to new skills that I didn't know I'd enjoy so much. Like you said, you become obsessed with it. I wake up excited to improve these skills and get working on them. I'm always thinking about how I can get better too. I do have a little income and my husband works so this is the perfect time to grow my own freelance business. I am continuing to pay off debt, even if its just a little bit at a time. I'm also helping another friend with her non-profit business, and with the same skills. I've enrolled in an amazing online course that will help me grow and keep me accountable as well. I know my situation isn't ideal but sometimes things happen unexpectedly, then life gives you new opportunities. I love the advice you give Sorelle. ❤

I’m about to quit my job and put in my 2 weeks this coming Monday. I hate my job and am so excited to take a 3 month break, travel, have free time to really discover what I’m passionate about and purpose is. I’m not sure what will happen after 3 months, if I’ll work at a different company or try to work for myself. But I know everything is rigged in my favor and what is meant to be is already mine.

Sorelle, I don’t know how, but I keep feeling you can read my mind and bring out the video I need now. I was thinking of leaving my job, because I’m not happy and want to focus on my filmmaking, but it’s not sustainable and me and my mum would struggle. This gave me the motivation to keep going and focus on my filmmaking until I get to a stage where I can support myself and my mum. Thank you. Really, a massive thank you. This was the kick up the bum knocking sense into me I needed. X

I finished my full time job just 4 days ago and have (in the last 4 days) earned 3 times my usual salary. But I followed lots of your advice. I built a buffer, I worked nights and weekends for 2 years to build clients, I treated my full time job as a university course and used it to build my skills ( I absorbed everything I could and made the most of their training offers) - then I made the jump. So far, I have amazed myself and feel so full of pride. I am tired, but its working. I was also very careful not to burn bridges and that has already paid off in the form of being hired back by my employer to work in a freelance capacity. Just 4 days...

I work part time so I don't go crazy (pandemic times), or depressed. You are inspiring me everyday to work on building a business and I hope I get the courage to do it someday. I remember when my father started his business and he kept telling me to do so too after I graduated, I didn't want to hear it. 8 years post graduation, I'm not working in the field that I studied in (long story there) and I've been working at a company that I'm disliking more and more every day. This year I was able to invest (small investment) in my business, and I'm doing it on the side (3-5 hours after my 6-3 job), it's still on the ground, because I have a looonggg way to go, but the idea of quitting to start something that I don't even know will work is something I never considered, and I can't save up enough money to able to take care of basic expenses and invest in my business, so I am doing it slowly but surely while keeping my current job.

Great video. I recently started a pretty good full-time job AND my passion project at around the same time, and it's been such a cognitive dissonance to do both - I feel like I'm pulled in 2 opposing directions - the day job gives me security & stability, but the project has potential massive upside, and makes me feel way more fulfilled than I've ever been. Head over heart, heart over head, weighing the trade-offs daily is taking its toll!

You mentioned that life is a series of sprints and at times you have to work overtime (opportunities presenting, things aligning). And if you sacrifice some of the things for a while, then how are you still able to stay productive?

Thanks for making a video about this, it's very timely! You can't imagine how inspiring your videos are! What I love most about your approach is the philosophy of full responsibility for your own life. I have quit my job multiple times in my life to pursue my own projects (making feature films, moving overseas, starting a youtube channel). But I learned new skills each time and retained my ability to get a new job in a matter of weeks or months. Having a fat emergency fund stash definitely helped (and I wouldn't do it without one!)! It was difficult each time, but I don't regret it. I believe that quitting and starting is a valuable skill on its own, the skill of being flexible and adapting quickly. All the best for your channel Sorelle, you are helping many people!

Intriguing to read this, now. I was talking about this, earlier this morning, regarding tired healthcare workers, from both the professional’s and patient’s side of things; with my dear friend, whom I met when I had surgery, to solve 8yrs. of being bedridden/housebound, last year - as she was my CNA. She works nights AND weekends. She’s been immensely depressed, both personally and professionally. I encouraged her, to begin making KZbin videos. Which, she has been. It’s her birthday, in a few days. She shared with me, her father bought her a laptop and she FINALLY got internet - so she can begin focusing more, on making her videos. This way, also, she’ll be able to develop a stable income - for when she moves to be with her partner, whom lives in India. I’m really excited, for her.

Here’s a an idea, I offered my friend, in the healthcare field.. As One whom has had many endearing experiences, with professionals, during my own trials and tribulations - I’ve learned a lot, about life, human connections, empathy, and compassion. Perhaps, if you’re an artist, of some kind.. You could film yourself creating your art, while doing a voice over, of you doing story times, regarding your experiences and perspectives, worming in the healthcare field. I’m sure you have a valuable perspective, people would love to hear. That way, you can do what you love - while utilizing your past skills, also. Hell, even if it’s, simply, filming you making those bracelets. I pray you found this supportive. Wising you, all the best.

All I have to say is that THIS is the video that I need right now. In last couple of months, there is idea that is growing inside me and I want to bring it out, but I don't know how and how much time and resources I need to make my idea to be full time job. I don't want to leave my current job, but I want to start, beside my job, a new thing and see if I will make it in few years. I don't wanna bring myself to the point where I will be waiting for perfect opportunity and miss all of that. You explained everything that need to be explained and show people that they don't need to jump straight in something right away, it needs time to sort things out and with some kind of planning it should be fine. Your videos are not bombastic and clickbait. You are like, down to earth person which could we all meet in like, everyday situations and places, with experience behind you and to show us all that you went thru all of the problems and hard stuff so we can learn and see how to recognize them, how to react and how to fight problems because it's not easy road. Now, at start of my road, this is the video which gives me that little push that I really need to start something that I love, to seek out new opportunities, to find myself and to show myself that I can do it. And make it. Thank you!

Wishing I had know you both for a lifetime. I burned myself so much trying to learn these tips! I also quit my job too early and had family problems so part of burning my sanity and being crippled with no income comes from this. Still trying to recover. Thanks a lot for sharing all this!

Thank you for your incredible wisdom, I resonate with all your suggestions.. Even though I'm starting late at the age of 44. Life gave me many curve balls which has brought me here. I have learnt sooo many valuable lessons and now it's my time to grow. I love learning and studying. ❤️

Sorelle, I appreciate how you are so realistic! You really have a genuine heart to help people with your own experiences, and that is rare to find among a sea of money-driven "influencers" these days. I follow many Finance channels on youtube, but find that your core values are what resonates with me the most. Thank you.

Ahh love ❤️ Quit my last (part time job) that was contract and time binding back in 2019. I was 19 and going to uni so It was a leap of faith with just enough to pay for tuition and quit because I thought my online course would become a big hit 🥲 it never sold LOL but taught me a lot and thankful my parents have accommodated me with shelter and food. Now three years later I am SO excited to be able to creatively serve people

I remember your videos about working at a bar while trying to live out of photography and selfies and I still think the same: i wish I had the mental stability for doing that sacrifice. When I push myself that hard for a week, I can already feel an anxious/depressive episode incoming. But well, I guess I'll only have to wait a bit more while taking care of my health. I love seeing you're doing well ❤

I already loved your content with your other channel. I'm so happy for this new one! Such valuable information it's worth thousands of money. I just started a new job as an animator/illustrator/motion designer at a small studio and I'm loving every second of it. The problem is that it's still an office job. A 9 to 5 job. Again, I love what I'm doing there, but It's way too much working for me, I have no time for anything else. I can barely insert a couple of workouts a week in the early morning. That's no way to live for me, and I can't wait to develop my own business as an animator/illustrator/motion designer. Just working for myself. So thank you so much for these videos, I'm just going to watch every single one of them right now.
