I LITERALLY matched every single point! And I can concur that a bad job will literally cause you physical, mental, and psychological stress. Panic attacks, high blood pressure, not enjoying personal activities, mental breakdowns, loss of interest in friends/family, contemplating darker "thoughts"; yeah a bad job can be worse than a crowd full of bullies. At least the bully is in your face most of the time. A bad job is like poison fed to you over time in increasing doses until you literally break down.

I left a job many years ago, without giving any notice. I had to because the emotional distress that I was under was so enormous. During my working hours, my bowels were upset. I went to see my doctor. After he examined me, his first question was, "Is there trouble at work? That's stress." After I resigned the doctor said to me, "There was something going on there that was causing this." I saw a therapist. She said, "If your bowels were moving fast, that means you were under a lot of stress." To make a long story short, my ability to work there was undermined.

Same. I had "stress induced compromise of immune system" and got sick a lot. I was a combat veteran and figured I was tough enough to deal with a toxic manager. I was wrong. When I went on medical leave (unpaid, because of management's denial that it was work-related), I discovered I could live on much less money. The paycheck no longer tied me to that horrible place. I also left without notice and feel much better.

This is an excellent video, and very, very accurate. I worked for a horrible, toxic bully, and the treatment got worse and worse. Before he arrived, I was extremely popular with co-workers and a top performer. In 2 years time I had been screamed at, hung up on, fists slammed on the table because I was so "frustrating", told I needed to grow up, and then the ultimate betrayal, the CEO whom I had an excellent relationship with went totally downhill, and then he hated me too. They tried to force me to sign a PIP (did not sign!!! it was all lies!!!) and suspended me for 2 days without pay for asking a co-worker a question. Yes, you read that right, I was no longer aloud to talk to my co-workers. Please listen to Marat, this situation will only get worse, get out before they fire you, because that is what is going to happen.

I thought I was signing a warning for my lateness in the beginning which is fair but then I found out , through gaslighting, that I have signed about the PIP as well when I've only agreed by voice, orally. Wise choice not to sign up for the PIP! This was my first time working in a company and I see what people said about these things in the past first hand 👌

I walked out 10 days ago on my first one on one with my boss after working there for 2 years. I was treated unfairly. I am 59 with 40 years of experience in my industry. The management team I was a part of spent most of their time recruiting due to high turnover. The team I managed performance was the best the company had seen in its 30 year history and the Administration was questioning but wouldn’t schedule a meeting. I was hired a few days after leaving and am so glad to be moving on!

Health is more important than wealth. No thanks in staying in a toxic work environment. Money is important but your well-being is more important. Without your health, you cannot work. Best to quit or let them fire you. Just put on your resume that it was the end of your contract which is technically true. It will not affect your future employment even if your company makes you feel that you can never work anywhere else. You are not a prisoner. Not worth it when it affects your wellbeing and maybe your family because they are worried about you. Think back to your dream childhood job. Are you where you want to be now? You can change jobs no matter your age. It has no benefit to stick out a job you are miserable in. I know from experience. Thank you for this excellent advice for everyone 👍

Quitted a job recently, felt so much more peaceful, focussed and enthusiastic. Workplace was full of scapegoating, gaslighting, triangulation, bullying, health and safety misconduct, flaking out on hours last minute, coercion including pressuring staff to sign things without reading them that agree to things that never happened. My question is if there are so many toxic employers why do new employers put so much weight on the reference of previous employers when that employer could possibly give that person a bad reference just because they can and they know they can still control that person's future. Why don't new employers and recruiters start using other measures to determine someone's character and if they are right for your company. Imagine your future depending on another person's opinion, my opinion of someone may differ to how someone else sees them so is it fair to use a reference by other employers as a measuring tool.
@myemmotion
@myemmotion 3 жыл бұрын
I can definitely relate to what you are saying. For the majority of companies you can bring references from those you choose to, which is a lot easier. But some companies want it to be a direct ex-manager and that's when things become complex and even unfair.

I kid you not on this and I am debating whether to walk away from this place today. I was called in the office yesterday and told I am being written up for two violations. I am a service technician for work and I do good work. I am late 30s, and have never been written up in any job. But anyway, my manager is medically diagnosed OCD and is a real life Adrian Monk type clean freak. He said one of my machines wasn't clean enough for him. The second write up just blew my mind for stupidity. He said that I am not allowed to wear cargo pants/jeans to work. I looked at him and said do you even know what cargo pants are? Cargo pants have multiple pockets going down the sides. Also, these are not jeans, these are dress pants. He replied, the color looks like jeans 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️... At this point, I lost all respect for this nitpicking company. We were purchased by a large corporation. Since that purchase, it's on a slow decline. Everything is moving to being graded by numbers and metrics. We spend more time and effort manipulating metrics than actually doing quality work.
@myemmotion
@myemmotion 3 жыл бұрын
The second write up is insanely ridiculous. He can't write you up for your pants "color looking like jeans", that's just not how things work. It seems like your manager doesn't want you to be there anymore, so these are the warning signs that things are getting worse and worse. Because both writes up are completely subjective, they are not based on any metrics, even though your company has become more about them. How long have you worked in the company for? Have you already started looking for another role?

I work as a manager, and my boss prior to the one I had now was amazing. We had trust with each other. Not everything was smooth sailing all the time, but things had a way of working themselves out. We were a team. Now, a new manager took over and it's never been the same since. There is 0 trust between us. I have been belittled in front of my piers before. I'm constantly micromanaged, and being blamed for things I cannot control.
@myemmotion
@myemmotion 3 жыл бұрын
I know exactly how it feels. You worked as a team, nearly all the goals seemed possible and achievable and mutual respect made the job enjoyable. Then your boss is no longer there and this new person makes you feel like you are the worst person to be at your role. Micromanagers don't usually change, you just have to give them even more follow ups than those they request from you and, of course, keep looking for another role.

I know I have to quit job but I need money. I recognize there are other jobs otherwise I've been so traumatized at diff wrkplaces esp this one currently I am terrified and disgusted w the idea of putting myself thru more abuse. At this job I developed a fragrance allergy or better known as MCS (MULTIPLE CHEMICAL SENSITIVITY). This was an effect of toxic chemicals namely in air freshener which triggered this condition, never had it before in my life. This has been going on 2 years now. I informed boss before it become full blown but was ignored. So when I come across ppl who choose to wear toxic fragrance ie perfume/cologne/scented lotions, aftershave my lungs can close. I understand many would suggest just get a puffer but what a puffer does is suppress the body's natural response which is a bad idea. Look up steroids and see what it does. Believe you me it does come and bite you in the ass later much like when you suppress or oppress someone long enough shit happens. Or take a pill which once again shows no respect to the body or injections ie EpiPen. Those things are expensive and once again do not resolve the issue. I've temped at other wrkplaces during this 2 years and other places also do not respect this legitimate health issue. It is so very upsetting which is an understatement. I feel hopeless and have learned to really enjoy being alone away from ppl BC my mind has now learned through repetition that being around others will just result in trauma. Most ppl do not care. I've never known so much apathy.
@myemmotion

That is extremely insensitive and even inhumane from their side to ignore such a major health issue. Can you report this somewhere else? Maybe with a medical certificate or something else you can file a report with. In any case it's clear that this isn't the company you'd have any future with.

@@myemmotion I couldn't agree more. It has changed me so much as a person. I did get a doctors note and gave it to them but the anxiety is still there. Patients still come in wearing fragrance. They continue to buy fragranced products. People literally have no idea what they are spraying on themselves, rubbing in their skin etc and the impact on the body and possible those around them bc this shit gets into the air we breathe, and if any of us have half a brain wed recognize the great importance of our lungs. I can not even begin to tell you the things that have been said to me by my one coworker who shamed me for it. "SO and so wants to wear fragrance but because of you she cant", "what do you expect, for people to not bath" ," we can not tell patients to not wear fragrance it infringes on their rights and freedoms" - my response "what about my basic need to breathe. This is during a staff meeting and my boss says nothing. Sidenote: I did call Ontario Health and Safety and filed a complaint and the gentleman I spoke to said they can not do anything really, the govt favors businesses over people. He literally said that. He said I can file with human rights bc it is discrimination however it would be long, lengthy process and is my job worth it. Ive worked at other places too, been sexually harrassed by another dentist. STORY-TIME: back in 2009-2010 I developed a lump on my left breast (my mom already had breast cancer) anywho had to leave work early one day to get mammogram, boss says to me why do you have to leave early and naive and people pleaser me answered, I said I have a lump on my breast and need to see what it is: his response: you know what your problem is? your nipples arent being sucked hard enough", being me I uncomfortably played along bc I was so shocked an disgusted but worried my not playing a long would threaten my job. I had to leave after that bc of appt and swept that moment under the rug, just wanted to pretend it didn't happen, same boss a couple months later I had developed a peeing issue where id pee every 15 mins, literally even at night so had no sleep, it was truly exhausting and left me feeling hopeless. I had to leave work early one day for another doctors appt, he once again asks whats going on, I begrundingly told him my symptoms bc he is a doctor (dentist), I said Im peeing every 15 mins and it is disrupting my life... he responds with You know what your problem is? you arent being fucked hard enough. I have had some really traumatizing exps at work. Another dentist told me to stop drinking water bc he frowned upon the reality that I need to pee. It pisses him off that I had to go to the washroom and it inconveniences him. Another one would bark at me when he spoke to me, the patient during a root canal said why are you talking to her like that, he responded if she doesn't like it there's the door. So many stories of absolute apathy and entitlement on bosses part.

I left a retail job recently. I stayed there for almost six years. It was difficult, but I felt comfortable. Even though I was able to withstand countless rude customers and toxic managers, I still found a reason to stay since I was still in college. It wasn’t until late at night one day my coworker got angry at me and decided it was best to write me up without explaining why. He even called the daytime manager and she was furious at me telling me she did everything for me. You know what? I don’t owe anyone anything! 😡 so what did I do? The next day. I decided to call and quit immediately. I was happy I did. This wasn’t the first time something like this happened and the company didn’t have a good reputation anyway. Fast Forward, I now have a new job with a more understanding boss and will graduate college soon. What I want one day is to open up my own store and perhaps become an inventor? 😂 One step at a time!

I am currently in this position right now. I am literally in the brink of losing my job. I feel like no matter how much I try there is always something wrong about my work performance, not to mention my work schedule is probably affecting me so much since I work from home at a night shift and during the day, I need to do some necessary errands which consumes a lot of my time. I don't blame my supervisors but rather I blame myself. I believe I have a lot of shortcomings but I also feel like I have no growth and progress no matter how much I try. I keep closing other options because I thought I need this job so bad and that I could not afford to lose it because I need to earn money to save, plus not to mention my necessary bills and expenses. I am not feeling great at all and I feel like I'm on a dead end, and this constant feeling of dread has always been there since day one of this job... I wish I was wise and brave enough to decide that I should quit when signs were already clear from the start. Maybe I was scared of wasting my time and the mindset I have that I can't afford to lose my job. I should have probably considered losing my sanity before entering this position. Also, this is probably my last week in this job because they might really fire me for real this time. What should I do? ☹ I am 25 years old and I am feeling lost. I don't know where I'll go after this. I feel like I will never be good enough. I feel hella stupid at this point.

No, listen. They want you to think like that. Look for another job, save money where you can, be flexible. I m in the same situation, the last of many exploitative experiences in my career. I m going to reduce the hours I work whilst looking for new opportunities. Maybe I won t find an ideal job, but what matter the most to me is the ppl I work with. That is going to be top priority right now. Never shut down your gut feeling. I had a bad one since day 1 about 1 of my coworkers, was right. She is the bootlicker of my boss and hated me on sight. Slowly but surely she started badmouthing me with said boss, and her attitude went from be so happy and grateful I was there to now micromanaging me, disrupting my break in the middle making a point that half a break is enough, shouting at me in front of colleagues and customers. There is no going back from this. You have to believe you ll find smt better even if it hard, but pls your health is important for you to find the right job too. Leave that awful place if you can afford a few months without paycheck, Don t tell them the real reason. Best of luck to you, they Don t deserve you

ALWAYS have something lined up, if you decided to leave. This has become a job market where it can take months or years to find something comparable in pay. Meanwhile, as far as I know, UI acts like it’s the 1980, so you’ll need to find something in weeks. That boss who tried playing BFF? Yeah, they’ll fire you, if they have to come up with something to do it. You may notice them redirecting work, while people are picking your brains. That’s no accident. It’s preparing themselves for your absence. This is so, especially if you’ve been a high performer. People, even bosses, do actually grow tired of high performers. They sometimes don’t know what to do with them and they can become jealous of them, especially if they’re outperforming their “superiors”. If you can do it on the DL without getting caught, bring your own work to work, if your work is being diverted to someone else. It’ll keep you awake, for that ridiculous commute, for 8 hours of doing nothing. Be glad you might, then, have what would be like a weekend day, to pursue your own interests and move yourself ahead. If the company has any learning opportunities, hey, it’s from the company. Take advantage of them, to obtain new skills for new opportunities, from within or outside of the company. For me, as a 2D creative, I’m learning 3D and have bought a 3D printer. I am learning skills that, while I’ll never offer that to my current job, especially since they’d pick my brain, yet still be jealous about that, too, I just do it on my own and may open up an Etsy store. At minimum, I’ll have 3D modeling knowledge, which will “appear” as if I got it from this job and it will be on my resume and in my portfolio, while I’m actually sitting there doing nothing. Also, if they have a gym, use it while you can. So, even on the decline or the devaluation and discard phases (terms associated with narcissistic behavior often found in offices, too), you can find a way to increase your contentment and value, even if it’s not value to the workplace you’re currently in. Lastly, if you have personal files on your work computer, start moving them off and onto a safe location, that isn’t owned by your employer. Laptops are often snatched, the moment they tell you that you no longer work there. Their priority is protecting company data. Whatever happens to your stuff is irrelevant. But also, don’t trust that it’s private. Probably hasn’t been private since you first got your laptop. But you can be fairly certain, it’s not private, when they start lining you up for an exit.

Hi everyone . Today I resigned from my job and I'm really proud of myself! Sadly I didn't plan on saving any money before I left but realized my mental, emotional and physical health are the most important! Believe me when I tell you that there are people who get sick or die from the stress that whatever toxic situation there may be such as work, family, friendship can cause. I've been dealing with toxic people for a lifetime, in fact I was born into a family like this and I've had so many red flags about the environment already earlier, but I didn't want to listen to my intuition. Listening to your intuition and gut, can save you from really dire situations. Plan before you leave. Because the longer you stay in these environments and the days go by you find yourself weakened physically, emotionally and without economical resources when the time comes to leave. Even though I didn't plan it properly, I know that everything will be fine and that I will find a solution regardless and I don't regret the choice I made today and that was to leave. My health is precious and I no longer allow anyone to disrespect and bully me. I did it in front of everyone unconsciously but thinking about it maybe it will help one day whoever witnessed this episode to stand up for themselves as well. The manager followed me all over the working place and I told him that I don't tolerate anymore disrespect from anyone. He knew all along what was going on and didn't move a finger to change the situation while the team leader disrespected and bullied. The environment is really toxic and not worth any amount of money .by the way he is also extreme toxic. Some people claim to care about you while backstabbing you on the back. This is related to all toxic relationships. One thing is certain, it takes a lot of courage to do something like this and especially in front of everyone! You demonstrate that you are a person of integrity, moral and with love and respect for yourself. Especially when there are too many secrets and the abuse directed at you is really, really subtle.Obviously when you do it avoid being rude even though I know it's hard, to not show anger or use bad words. He told me:" you can't leave like this"and in return I said "oh yes I can " like "watch me I'm just doing it". I have enough of being the scapegoat for such a sad creatures so they can project onto me all their s..... Is not good being impulsive and leaving but it was absolutely necessary to avoid a breakdown. I needed to calm down . Of course later on I will deal with my reassignment in the proper way which means on paper and documented.Enough of micromanaging, gaslighting, favoritism, preferences, always s....on my performance, not letting me express myself especially when something was done wrong to me ecc.. However. I wish all of you if you find yourself in this situation to find a solid one and to leave as soon as you get the chance.Plan it but secretly. Please inform yourself about GASLIGHTING it can save your sanity.No kidding! For those of you who found the courage to stand up to your bully/bullies, you have all my respect and admiration. Hugs to all of you and never ever give up! There's always a light at the end of the tunnel . And thank you Marat for helping us with tools and knowledge on how to deal in these situations and toxic people! ❤️🤗🤗🤗

This is exactly what a toxic management does. It even came to appoint where they put something on my chair that made me burn because I didn't allow them to break me down. It is such a degrading point where everyone laughs knowing what they did

Happy for comments. A new job involved me moving onto a large property where some neighbors several km away were playing other roles. The mger was syphoning $ off my predecessor (a couple of temps) with whom I had a short overlap while I moved in and their handover. They also said that without owner's permission, the mger moved lots of the equipment from where I would be stationed to their personal home project. On my FIRST day, mger accused me of damaging my assigned vehicle. She had previously complained to the owners that I called her on her off day, something I apologized for even more graciously than the owner's request. (BTW I hadn't known about her schedule.) Owner and mger likely didn't know I remained in contact with predecessors who gave me photos of the vehicle long before I arrived on the scene. I was so stressed before knowing this proof existed. Rather than ask the mger to apologize (& I didn't request it), owner asked me to apologize AGAIN to mger over my off duty call from before the vehicle incident. This time, including a script. She also spoke of how hard it was for mger to take instructions from me. The closest thing to instructions was leaving a message abt my leaving predecessors' linen in front of storage facility for which only she had keys, as I was told to do. (Unsure if this was racial. Possible because I am blk). It was my dream job! I quickly packed my things, video recorded my own walk through, including showing myself locking myself out and messaged owners that I had left. My fear was that the accusations cld get worse and I wld no longer have support of predecessors. I was depressed for 2 months. What cld I have done differently?

During my move to this place, the owner had urgent desire for me to check something in the property before I left. The mger ignored my request as per owner, even though I explained it was the owner's request. When I reported back, the owner was disappointed but said 'go with the flow!' Was she expecting the same? ... If so, wish she'd assure me she'd have my back re the mger's accusations.

I love the idea of putting in my 2 weeks notice, unfortunately in the UK most reasonably senior roles have at least THREE MONTHS notice...😅

I was in warehousing. All your points covered what happened in my workplace. The mistake I made was keep staying and eventually I became fatigued. I almost got sacked for losing focus on my work then I was reported to HR. At this point it was time to walk out but I got offered to move departments. I'm just a production worker now with same pay but much happier

Yes, I did it today. Horrible toxic intimidating boss who also tried to blackmail me to stay. When she copied in 3 other people into a degrading email giving me a dressing down and copying them in that was it. That WA the last straw. I told her tosh ice her job and walked out.

My boss, pulled me into the office and yelled at me I was in complete shock because she lied and said “we are just gonna talk about availability” then bam starts yelling at me over something that we both could of talk about in a calm manner. I was so angry I’m upset right now that I can’t even sleep because of her this happened today.

Oh boy where do I begin My recent boss is probably the most worse boss/person I’ve ever came across. I will first say it took a complete toll on my mental, physical, and emotional health. Let me just say I’m 5’4 and starting weight 179 finishing weight 127 now if that doesn’t say a lot !! I am EXTREMELY energetic and at this job every single time I walked into work I went above and beyond I literally worked like a dog and in the end that’s exactly what I was treated like a dog!! This toxic back stabbing most unprofessional boss I’ve ever heard of will go out of her way to ruin your whole self and she’s almost completely ran this business into the ground I honestly am quit dumbfounded at the entire situation long story short I got dismissed because she doesn’t like who I talk to and what I do on my days off!!

Did the same choice because of a manager, constantly focus on minor mistakes with a lot of time lost to talk about issue that are not issue, ignoring the main topics of the work and stop immediately any desire to increase my knowledge. It is ended up that 90% of my job was trying to do something in a way that he can like, without success obviously. Never a positive or motivational feedback. Interesting though, when I give my resignation, the real boos was wondering why, because I was working very well and "it is for sure a misunderstanding", no way man: 2 years of negative feedback for good work results is not a misunderstanding. For some reason he treated me like a sock even though with the main boss he said everything was ok.
