Dr. Cantu, you have the best handle I have heard on this controversial question and ALL Athletes should adhere to your advice and research. I have a laymen s (boxers) theory on this subject from many years ago. I call it the Glass Jaw Theory. When an up and coming boxer who had never lost by ko or tko but then loses by tko and then 2 fights later gets ko'd again and then again, the boxing world labels that boxer as having a Glass Jaw ( can't take a punch anymore). When a boxer starts to get knocked out easier and takes longer to recover than before, this was a RED FLAG sign to retire or be advised to choose another sport. Thank you Dr. Cantu for rendering these old theories obsolete with your many years of diagnosing and research. God bless and just keep punching!

And do the symptoms of pcs occur at any time without the need for a stimulus (such as a jolt), or do they only occur when there is a stimulus?

PCS only occurs after a concussion, and its symptoms can be present 24/7 and made worse by stimulus for many. However, each PCS case is different.
