Rock dust, mychorizza, biochar, and compost going in with mine. If the dirt is hard, it's pretty much dead lifeless. Go walk through a forest. Not hard and is teeming with life. Update would be cool, I wanna get me one down in Richmond asap.

i just got a sharwil last month 5 gal, transplanted into a mineral based soil 15 gal and starting to get a lot of leaf tip burn, its in full sun, just wanted your thoughts on shade cloth or moving it into partial sun until more established?
@TheElsinoreGardener2 жыл бұрын
You have to shade young trees and give them lots of water after you transplant them. Add mulch to keep the delicate feeder roots from drying out.
@ChrisChinners2 жыл бұрын
@@TheElsinoreGardener yea i have 2-3 inches of mulch but ill shade for now and see if that helps, how long after transplant do you typically shade?

Ok so my little baby avocado branches are not ready to be moved from pot to ground yet. Yours is flourishing further along than mine right now so I’ll wait. But I have a spot ready for it, next to my lemon tree when the time comes
@TheElsinoreGardener3 жыл бұрын
Start prepping the soil now to introduce some life into the soil. Cover some compost with mulch and keep it watered so when you are ready to plant you have healthy soil.

Nice, I am watching the weather to put 2 avo's in myself that never took well last year. I would not worry too much about the same hole issue, that is what i plan to do also. dig out the old root ball and give it all a mix. heck i planted my hass right in the same hole as my sir prize that died before I knew any better. (Hass is going great BTW) you use ceder chips can you link a brand etc.. I am looking for some quality but kinda stuck with lowes and h-depot or amazon i suppose lol. keep on Avo-ing!!

I put dog poop where the come in the yard, that may work for you if want to try that. I haven't lost an avocado yet this year. My only ripe and ready ones left are the Sir Prize

I trap squirrels in an above ground box trap using pumpkin seeds as bate, use a Cinch trap that's for gophers, must have trapped near 200 in the last 20 years. Every morning I inspect our grounds for new diggings, usually Feb through June are the worst months, once the ground hardens they cease to come in. Best of luck.

buy a new high power Air gun with night vision scope. It is almost to easy. only take clean shots to be kind and the word will spread to avoid your yard!

How often do you water in ground avocado trees summer vs winter?
@TheElsinoreGardener4 жыл бұрын
I get a lot of wind and I always like to water before a big wind event. I also like to keep the mulch wet so the feeder routes don’t dry out as they grow through it. I don’t deep water as often, but this year we haven’t had much rain so we play it by ear

How old is your gem avocado? I’m worried about my gems growth. It seems bare and leafless on one side.
@TheElsinoreGardener3 жыл бұрын
That one is probably 4 yrs old. I've had it for over 2 + yrs. Sometimes when they stake up trees it can cause one side to be bare. It's happened to all of us. If you want to try to force some growth, cut off the growing tip down a few inches, that may to it.
@marctan80563 жыл бұрын
Cut off the thicker side so it would grow out of the bear side?

Hi, I’m not happy with that tree. There was a place selling “Gem” avocados and many of my friends bought from this company. I thought the avocados didn’t look like gem and so has everyone else. The tree has struggled since the main branch broke and I removed it. I’m thinking of pulling it out and putting another tree there.

It doesn’t look like a gem. Gem has much narrow and wavy leaves
