explaining why is so critical. One time my boss told a new coworker not to do something without explaining. Then after the boss left the coworker complained to me "The are so many dumb rules here!" Then all I did was explain in a few sentences why we do things the way the boss said to do them. Immediately the lightbulb went on in the coworker's head, their face went from annoyed to lifted and relieved. They said "oohh I understand that makes total sense now, ok". It changed their attitude from "boss is so bossy with their rules" to "It's not about doing it their way it's about doing it so I don't cause avoidable damage to products". Explain why with every order or correction you give. Don't be bossy, don't crack the whip, just make it a conversation and guide people. don't tell someone "don't press that button!". Tell them "don't press that button because it will destroy all the work that took you 4 hours to do. etc..."

There is no “gift”, this is a paid course, but a very valuable course for guys that didn’t experience the military perspective or training experience, or deployment experience, but none the less the greatest leadership skills across the board. It’s all about mindset and how you apply the experience and information that was presented to you.

YES, David Hackworth the helicopter pilot, who believe or not was awarded 8 purple heart medals. Very good analogy I never really knew about Hackworths actual exploits before he was a prominent figure in Veterans Affairs. Clint Eastwood's character Tom Highway in "HeartBreak Ridge" was a lot like what Jocko is talking about how at first everyone hated him until he won their respect even though from an administrative military standpoint the screenplay may have hyper unrealistic particularly to actual Marine Corps members but obviously it was movie and more than likely would have been nowheres near as entertaining to a viewing audience.

Good Info in getting acclimated to an new group. This is shown in the movie the boys in company C when a unit was pinned down by a machine gun. The corporal took his initiative he gather a few Marines and destroyed the nest and declares yeah I did it!

Did they ever mention to be careful with electronics as they're probably all bugged? New sheriff in town, let's talk about device safety and precautions.. Rule number one, they can all be hacked, both mics and cams. That would be my approach. Lotsa pervos out here trying to get free peeks.
