Watching this old video is like watching an old WWE match. You knew it was fixed then, and you know it's fixed now, yet it's still entertaining. Fun fact: so-called Spanish moss is an epiphyte. Not a moss at all, but a flowering plant that's lost its roots and relies on the the tree to give it a roost and the rain and atmospheric moisture for water.

Another great video Gavin, I'm enjoying going through the archive. I have a question about that waterfall shot - 1.4" at 2.8 for motion blur and 5" at f8 for sharpness... why wouldn't the 5" f8 be enough for motion blur, since it's a longer shutter speed? I'm a newbie with landscape. If you cover this question in your courses I'm happy to go there. Thanks.

Best advice of how to make a living from nature photography ever: Sell your time and knowledge and presence to other people. With high risks to own physical and mental health - being turned into an object of pleasure (which is an easy to understand risk for Gavin, being the hottie that he is). Film everything - in hope that in the worst-case scenario someone will find the memory card years later and understand what may have happened and maybe even locate the body. And if one manages to do survive - of course one put the video up and monetize it on youtube. Thus making up to several dollars while earning the right to call oneself a truly professional photographer - helped with fine images of course. This is obviously why most of us define ourselves as amateurs. The risks involved in being a profession call-boy...(no I meant photographic mentor - I am as poor at editing text that I am at editing photos) is simply a risk few is brave enough to take upon themselves. And not just all that. These brave professionals upload their images for us all to point out what catastrophic failures they are. Openly receiving further scars on their souls. No wonder that over years, nature photographers grow more and more reclusive. Wandering around in woods, up hills and along coastlines while wearing hats with "grumpy" written in large unfriendly letters on it. Some, in fact, find shelter in a camouflage tent so well blended into the background that even wildlife becomes unaware of their existence. People do not really appreciate enough the sacrifices these few brave professionals make. (Did I tell that I did get inspired by a previous video from Gavin - trying to overlay the spray and water-drops from a short exposure on top of a long exposure? It would have looked better if I printed out both images on a fax-machine, cut out the details from the short exposure that I wanted and taped those parts on top of the long-exposure print with almost (but not completely) transparent tape. Had Gavin or anyone else seen it, he would instantly have asked his friend for a hat and walked into the distance while pondering what better and more rewarding job he could get to earn up to many dollars a day. (Keeping the balls in an IKEA kid's ball-binge neatly sorted by colour without interrupting the children would probably be more rewarding and successful). This, I hope, illustrates how much I admire true professionals and their struggles. I promise to never attend a workshop again. I simply do not want to expose Gavin to having to unzip his sleeping bag and comfort a middle-aged Scandinavian man for feeling sad about the lack of any artistic quality in my images (things I know true professional nature photographers are obliged to do to comfort failed amateurs in return for up to several dollars a day - until they of course simply wander into the distance and becomes part of the myth of the Sasquatch - footprints in snow being the only proof of their reclusive existence). So here I am feeling slightly inspired. Promising to not apply for any workshop (also due to being slightly worried where my body would be found if that stalker see me in Gavin's sleeping bag for a much-needed pep-talk and comfort), while I head over to watch that blending tutorial. It will not do much help for the third chapter of the autobiography I will write called "My journey to one good photography: a lesson of failing to scale a steep infinite icy slope wearing very slippery pub-shoes", but I will keep marching on with absolutely no progress. Thank you for the inspiration and the joys of watching the struggles of a true professional.
