I find it interesting that some Gen Z’s look older via procedures. In the 40s & 50s, young people in their 20s wanted to look older. Why? Because looking older was synonymous with being a “grown-up.” Less is better when it comes to having work done.

Plot twist: beauty was never subjective, even babies understand attractive and unattractive faces. With that said, it's terrible that the halo effect and other biases impair our ability to judge the quality of people's intelligence, humor, and other characteristics. Being able to remove these biases and be honest about whether people are attractive means that being ugly doesn't make you less intelligent whereas looks centered coping society (hollywood gaslighting us into thinking looks don't matter when they do) means people will perceive you as less intelligent bc of it.

Ive seen diagrams of what is supposed to be considered handsome to the female gaze and I just did not agree as I do not view eurocentric features as appealing but i wouldnt go say these people are "ugly". Men actually age faster than women, but the patriarchy says they don’t have to have this youth appearance to be attractive. Why? Why am I not considered beautiful at the time in my life I feel the best and can offer the most simply because I don’t look like a 20 year old (I was considered ugly when I was 20 btw). ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Women usually aren't allowed to age.. even though we literally live longer than men in most (if not all) countries.. I have a feeling lots of these insicurities come from the fact that women are told they must look like they're in their 20s forever.. as as soon as a woman turns 28 or 30, they try to keep the 20s look.. not because they want to, but because that's what assholes who don't allow women to live and exist peacefully tell them. I just turned 23, but I find older women MUCH more beautiful.. if redpillers people were to read this, they'd tell me I'm lying, cause they think they're the only ones allowed to have opinions..

I've pointed out to a few ppl how the entire "men don't have a biological clocks" only exists to fluff the male ego yet does a lot of harm. When the sense of mortality kicks in, it hits men harder. Not only are they forced to grapple with the reality of aging, their hormones dropping off, the fact that most young women don't actually want older men, they also have the sense of "I've been lied to my whole life?" At least for women, our clock is stuffed down our throats from birth so it's easier to process whereas men can & do spiral into a full blown existential crisis.

I don't think that this is a gendered/misogynistic issue (despite your upvotes), I think that this is an issue with people not loving their natural beauty enough. I'm all for supporting our sisters but I don't think that's the case here. Guys end up doing the same thing if they go through a similar experience. I think that she was just insecure and decided to do it and the sisterhood wants to jump in, in full force to support her. I don't think it's healthy to complain about men promoting natural beauty as opposed to fake beauty considering how many brothers indulge in that type of behavior. A really famous and experienced plastic surgeon in my country once told me this phrase: “As a plastic surgeon, I tell you that it takes about 5 years to learn how to perform a specific surgery, 10 years to master it, and 20 years to be able to say to someone DONT DO IT.” I have always wondered why some of the best plastic surgeons in the world dont really seem to have that much done to themselves. Some will proudly display their own aging signs, while making fortunes removing them from others. And then it hit me: they probably have seen first hand how going overboard with cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery can literally end up having the opposite effect. Like when you are still in your 20s and 30s but you pull and tuck so much you end up looking like someone 20 years older who is trying to look 20/30, you know? And its such an easy line to cross, most people will only notice it after the damage has already been done.
@lanayrugorge

20 years cause they’re rich by then. Unless they’re plastic surgeons for people that have had injuries or genetic conditions, all PS become PS cause they know humans are insecure, they’re not stupid, they prey on people for lots of money to become rich and then maybe become hollier than thou and do corrective surgeries. So that ‘really famous’ plastic surgeon is just as part as the problem no matter how inspirational you think that quote is.
@lalailm
@lalailm Ай бұрын
@@lanayrugorge i agree. I would be willing to bet that most PS choose the field bc of financial reasons. But I still think PS are necessary. I dont think we can reduce plastic surgery to just plain superficial and predatory. And in my opinion, its better that some of them change their minds later than not at all. At least we will have a few who are lucid enough to go against the current and will put the patient’s health first instead of money. At the end of the day, they might be part of the problem but so is the whole system we are all inserted in. And also, bc we have experienced how harmful some cosmetics procedures can be is that we now know which ones are not worth it. It might be hard to accept it, but that is how humanity has always evolved and progressed: through trial and error.

About Gen Z aging like milk, in addition to all the filler, it's all the skincare we started as teenagers (usually pretty young) that included exfoliating acids and ingredients which just weren't necessary for a lot of teens but we did it anyways because our skincare education came from adult beauty gurus. It's like the Sephora kids now who are using Drunk Elephants retinol creams and peptide creams and exfoliating products, it's going to take a toll on their skin as they age because more often than not, young skin just doesn't need that many active ingredients which turns counter-productive. I know people think skincare is mostly harmless but unsupervised or ill-knowledged and unnecessary use of skincare products can cause your skin to be worse make you look older, especially since potent skincare is becoming so accessible now and it's being targetted at young girls.

Like the world and life is so difficult at the moment and theres so much built up anger or rage or resentment and so people need something to take it out on, and instead of finding a healthy way to work through that, a lot of people online just jump on the next acceptable thing to tear down: be it someone who looks bad, a celebrity who did something or didn't do something they should have, whatever. people harass a celeb to use their platforms for good (like the Kardashians being critiqued over and over again for not acknowledging their role in the current beauty standards) but then if they DO what people have been asking for (like Kylie talking about it and coming to terms with how its not just affected her but larger society) people still arent happy because it's too late or feels performative. Idk I just get the vibe that some people will never be happy because they dont really want to be, they just want to shit on stuff or tear it down so just for a minute, they can feel big/superior in comparison

So they go to get a refill for nails, lashes, filler and Botox in the same shop and it’s super cheap compared to US prices. So the UK’s unregulated cosmetic injectables market is evident in their media in stark contrast to a regulated US market where yes, we have an increased demand, but you have to go to at least a medical spa under seen by a doctor if not an actual dermatologist or NP.

Hang in there ♡ I'm very white and pale and grew up with all Hispanic friends and hated my skin so much I didn't show my legs for 10 years and the few times I did I used fake tanner on my legs so I wouldn't get teased. Once I was over 18 and saw that lots of people especially in other places found my skin tone pretty, i started looking at my skin differently than before. I realized it looks really nice with certain colors, and that I could pull off some looks that my darker friends wouldn't be able to do as well, and I started to love my own skin color.

Moral of the story is women need to learn discernment. People are always going to try to sell you on something that will make you prettier or more attractive. But it’s all a sale and a trend. Once this trend is over they will be on to the next. You gotta find your beauty from within. When you love yourself you don’t fall for the okie doke as easily. It’s easier said than done but it’s the truth.

People are out here trying to get the benefits that come with external beauty, they want that guy/ that girl, they want people to envy them and pay attention to them, they want the privileges that come with being desired. It's like that anonymous message from Tumblr to user redstonedust, "... Command yourself with a warrior's spirit and resist the sirens call of cheap shit." This was about participating in microtransactions in mobile games but I think the sentiment applies to what you said. It's not about a persons moral composition, or never buying anything. I bring this up because these are some [black and white] counter points that can get brought up. To the point of r.walker I guess we have to have the conversations about validation and participating in online spaces because that's where a lot of people look for community and dopamine, especially younger people who have grown up with personal devices since a very young age.

All that work she had done is VERY jarring, if it was more subtle (like she did before she made more drastic changes) it looked lovely and natural, but now, she has completely changed her face and it unfortunately has really affected her acting range as her face isn't capable of being properly expressive for her roles now. Aside from that however, she NEVER deserved the amount of hate and backlash she got. Still, it's sad.

Because when health and medical practice is mercantilized, harmfull unnescessary procedures are sold, people waste resources, we have surgeons and hospital beds that could be ocupied by sick or hurt people that are ocupied by BBLs, nosejobs etc etc. Health should not be a commoditie. I wish they were prioritized above the people who just want to get a BBL or who just "need" to get their face stretched because they look too old🙄That is very vain and it's very trivial when compared to those who actually NEED plastic or reconstructive surgeries.

y'all are right but here's another perspective that may help you understand a different way: when you're bullied your whole life, brainwashed in so many ways that you are not enough, you believe this to be fact. it is your reality. you have no clue that beauty standards are made-up. these things affect everyone in different ways; i'm sure y'all can recall a time when you didn't like something trivial about yourself, even if that was YEARS ago when you were a teenager. it's ingrained in our society. our every day life. it rules some people's lives, unfortunately. we can blame the women who shame other women or we can teach them to uplift other women instead. i think of it sorta like deconstructing from a cult/religion. you have to rebuild your perception of the whole world around you as well as yourself. it takes a lot of work and even then you may still struggle for the rest of your life. uplift those women who are struggling instead of putting them down as opponents. your kindness goes a long way, even for the women who aren't at the same point of deconstructing as y'all. i didn't read y'all's comments as antagonistic or anything; i just wanted to say this to add on to the conversation. 🤍 i hope i explained well enough.

@paulaarosee Ай бұрын
@@bunnyellabell I didn’t take it that way neither did I mean it negatively against women. of course because i am one and also go through my own list of insecurities day to day. All my point is that men aren’t really out here making posts about things they don’t like about women’s bodies. Not half as much as women are posting about other women’s bodies and about their own insecurities that dominos into a trend. We are creating the trends for our insecurities right now massively. It’s making young women insecure about things they didn’t know they could be insecure about. No one in person told them anything to make them think otherwise about a certain part of their body until they see massive amounts of other women who are insecure about something which in turn makes us feel like we SHOULD also be insecure about that thing. It’s just getting weird how we have found any and everything to be insecure about nowadays and are blasting it on media so everyone else feels the same. Somethings can be kept to yourself as it is your insecurity to begin with compared to making it everyone else’s insecurity because of how you feel about yourself. I hope this makes a little more sense and I have become clearer with my comment!🫶🏻

Women are expected to maintain this illusion that they naturally meet a beauty standard which, for the most part, cannot be obtained naturally. The result is this sort of cognitive dissonance where we all know it's not natural but we hate being reminded of that because then it breaks the illusion. I think it's worth asking why we're so invested in this unwinnable game, and who actually benefits from it.

Making women insecure about themselves is a whole selling industry nowadays, and yes: you are absolutely correct that it is one of patriarchy'way to control us. I still believe that the favorite tool that the patriarchy came up with to make us weak is making women compete against each other women for men's attention, which is basically glorifying men, instead of allowing women to support and sooth each other and be in a community as it would be a more natural feminine behavior. Those who pursue beauty just to be seen can easily lose their way. If they are happy its great, but I always get sad wondering if those who dedicate themselves to it are doing so for the gaze of others who would have never respected them to begin with. Listening to the words of snakes will always hurt you, gotta love yourself first. I know plenty of people who get the only one surgery, they wanted, and suddenly they want 3 more. It's a concerning thing to want more and more of something that is completely intangible.

As a girl I’ve experienced way more pressure to fit a beauty standard and to look a certain way from women than men. The fat cells, because they don’t go where your body naturally stores them, go to unnatural places. They have these really frightening diagrams (in the NYT?) when they made the discovery. It goes mostly to your arms(batwings) and gives one saddle bags on their calves. It’s very unnatural looking and probably causes one to go back to surgery. Everyone I know who had it, had it done more than once.(Even though it can be deadly…)
