In 5 years, Villa is fighting for top 5 and Forest has been promoted. It's really nice to hear stories like these from people of the older gene who actually saw those amazing glory days. It makes the our bond with this game even stronger.

Look at how far we have come... we're now a team that are 9th in the prem, have just beaten Chelsea away and for the second transfer window running, spent over £100 million pounds on some serious European talent. I could cry 🥹🔴🌳

Yeah, fair enough. As I said, I'm probably being a bit nostalgic. I do miss Leeds vs Man U and Leeds vs Chelsea. They were always intense games. I suppose you can't blame the other teams for not having those kind of historic rivalries but they did make the division more interesting.

Yeah, you gave us a couple of hidings the last time you were up. I remember two or 3 3-1s to the Villa. When Benteke was still a confident striker. I don't remember losing too often apart from that though and a Fowler hat-trick away in '98 in a 4-1 win with Paul Ince getting the other. Best of luck for the rest of the season buddy.

As a Villa fan I'm constantly told "You live in the past" but surely it is better to have a history than have nothing at all? I was a kid when Villa and Forest were Champs of Europe and remember it like it was yesterday....At least we both have something to look back on with pride before football was destroyed by Sky and money because it won't ever happen again to us or to the haters. I have loads of mates who are Forest and there is a special bond between the fans that the six fingered lot from Small Heath and the Ram's in their baked bean can stadium will never experience, and they will both forever live in our shadows. I only want to see Villa back in the Premier if they have ambitions of competing for and winning it. A club of that size shouldn't be settling for 17th like they were last time. Otherwise 'their' place might as well be taken by a small(er) club battling against the odds.

Felipe Cardona I knew someone in this comment section will say this... In 1892, Man utd were called Newton Health who were elected to the football league but a decade later they went bankrupt, they were shit and they didn't win any trophies at that time, but everything changes cause of John Davies. Before Arsenal were in North London, they were shit and had no fans then they got brought up by Henry Norris who helped them moved to North London and bribe the fa to promote Arsenal in the first division, even though they finished 5th in the 2nd division, which caused Tottenham and Chelsea to be relegated. City and Chelsea are actually decent and they won some trophies even both club got bankrupt. Nothing is fair or equal in football or life.

Brilliant work. Two historic stories here that show football is more than just the Premiership. There are historic clubs that have contributed great things on the European scale that don’t necessarily play in the top division today. Hope to see both in the Premier League as soon as possible again. I’m a fan of SV Waldhof Mannheim. We were relegated all the way down to the 5th tier of German football. We won the 4th tier Championship last season, were promoted to the 3rd Bundesliga and are currently ranked 2nd. Unfortunately corona brought the season to a halt. Hopefully, they’ll just use to current table to decide who’s going to be promoted into the 2nd Bundesliga. Feel free to check out SV Waldhof Mannheim, I believe Vice news or some other KZbin channel covered our DFB Pokal match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Also check out the videos on our Derby against FC Kaiserslautern!

I remember going to watch City away at both Forest & Villa many times when I was a kid in the '70s. I was lucky enough to see both clubs parade their European Cups when we played them at the start of the seasons after they'd won & I looked with envious eyes wishing it could be my team. Back then all 3 clubs would be challenging for honours near the top of the league come the end of the season. City fans know all too well how having a shite owner can bring your club to it's knees but as everyone's seen with us, a good one can get it back up again. Both Forest & Villa should be Premier League clubs & I genuinely hope to see them back where they belong.

Ben from the lane, The top South American sides don't stand a chance against the top European teams today but a lot of that has to the with the fact that the top South American players almost all play in top European teams. Back then, I don't think you had _any_ South Americans playing for English clubs and teams like Boca Juniors could hold on to a Diego Maradona until he was 22 and that was considered young. These days, the South Americans are coming at a much younger age and this weakens those teams considerably.

I've been a baggies fan for over 40 years and by default I should hate Villa (as rivalry goes), but I don't. I have the utmost respect for this Villa team and their achievements. The early 80s was such a historical moment in time for British clubs. Made up of all British and mostly all local lads. Wow how it's all changed. These historical events will never be repeated again and it's quite sad.

I remember watching these great sides come to Maine Rd and will always consider them at least as big as us. The Villa fans were massively critical of us as a club and fans at Wembley which surprised me. Roles can and will reverse at some point and at least City and Leicester have given hope to all fans that one day it could happen for them. In 90s and early 2000s I genuinely thought that the top 4 were locked in forever and that we’d won our final trophy back in 1976. We ended that despair for most football fans - sadly it took foreign cash to do it.

Steve, as a Villa fan I can only say good things about City as a club and your fans, the non plastics ones are proper supporters. I remember being at Villa Park in 1993 when we played you and there was a banner unfurled in the away end " Good Luck Villa from the City of Manchester" as we were challenging Man Utd for the innaugural Premiership title. City fans even joined in the appeals for handball when Keith Curle handled it. You've had to endure some right crap times (relegations championship, league one, your neighbours etc) so for me you deserve all the success you get now. Would any clubs supporters reject billionaire owners coming in and changing the landscape, course not, it's just jealousy. In my opinion Villa, Everton, City, Leeds Newcastle are all similar, we are all big clubs.
