Caveman X the no s varieties are only on proof coins. proof coins are not the same as the coin you find in your pocket. they are only found in proof sets put out each year by the mint specifically for collectors. proof coins feature more details, a wire rim, very centered, and a totally different finish. once you have owned a proof coin you will never mistake a common business strike coin you find in your pocket for a proof ever again. so basically if you found it in your pocket....it's not the no s. it's a common Philadelphia minted dime...or Lincoln cent.

Coin Opp i'm trying to contact you about a 1998 penny I found.This penny looks grayish like pewter, it doesn't seem to be copper at all. looking at the outer rim it looks like it was struck. more than once. it is a bit larger in diameter than uther pennies. It weighs 2.5 grams. This coin is concave a bit. The details are all sharp and show no marks or scratchs, shows no impact damage. I can send pics. .Please contact for more info. Thank you

Easiest way to distinguish 82 lg & small dates is that the two openings on the 8 on the lg variety are nearly identical. On the sm date, they are much different sizes. Try it. No doubt which is which. Naked eye.

Thanks for the great info. I have a quarter conundrum. It's a 1970 quarter with a smooth high copper rim. The upper liberty's top half is cut off at the edge and the dates lower half's cut off at the bottom. It's slightly smaller than a regular quarter, but larger than a nickel and weighs more than a penny. I haven't found info in my reading, perhaps you can help? Thanks for sharing your knowledge. J

I have a lot of wheat pennies in mint condition and 28 nickles with the D n S on the right side of back of nickle. Also have like 60 1944 pennies and starting from 1910 all wheat pennies only have 1 steel 1943 but a lot of every other year

I have a 1983D...doubled die, obverse...the one thing that caught my eye was the mint mark...there was another, maybe two others...what I see is a shadow right under the 8...then I see another under the shadow...then comes D...which is also a rpm..I've never seen three in row like this ☝

I've been going through a box plus of pre 1970 Lincoln cents half or more wheat. I'm in Canada and never gone through any cents untili came into these. I bought them face value. One coin a 1967 felt smaller, smoother thinner than the others but it is in detail visible shape. my scale only to .1 and not high end but weights this coin 3.0 all other of same yeari weigh at 3.1. So close but not loss through wear. thinner smaller smoother feeling. Is a 0.1g discepency normal?

I had been saving 83 cents for quite some time and just got a scale recently but unfortunately they all weighed in at 2.5 grams (give or take a gram)- I was not aware of the 89 D or 90 D varieties so I will be weighing them now as well! That nickel on the copper cent planchet is just awesome!

I just checked eBay for the 1982 3.1 g small date Lincoln cent you discussed in this video and they seem to be much more common and less valuable than you've claimed them to be sir. What kind of coin buyer would pay over $20,000 dollars for a coin that you can easily buy from many different sellers on eBay for a hundred dollars or less?

Thanks for the feedback Coins for Amateurs. In the video with the 1990-D he said it must have been stuck in the hopper or something for all those years. So, I would think that could hold true for just about any post 82 penny up to at least up to 1990 and possibly beyond. HH
