My best friend was in a toxic and emotionally abusive relationship. When she would ask for advice I would tell her to leave him. She never listened. She then got engaged to him and she asked me to be her maid of honor. I felt so uncomfortable but said yes. I was conflicted because I wanted to support her but I knew the marriage would be horrible for her. Luckily she broke it off with him after she caught him cheating on her with a 17 year old. She lost all feelings and respect for him after that. I was so relieved that she got out of that mess. Now she is married to an awesome man and put all that in the past.

I have a friend that has been on and off dating a high school bf, they’re 22 and engaged now, and she cries and fights literally multiple times a day. He’s cheated on her more times than anyone can count. Everyone says they need to leave each other. They won’t. Couple days ago he took the ring back and screamed at her she cried. split ways with a friend group because the only other girl in the group had a super toxic boyfriend that everyone tolerated. he’d bully and belittle me constantly, even going so far as to try to hit me in the neck because I was using my fingers to make drawings with the dust on his dusty ass car. he’s a boxer, he seriously could’ve hurt me if my best friend wasn’t shielding me. multiple times I watched that friend make excuses for him and try to gloss over how awful he was to EVERYONE in the group. I had to leave because I was willing to help her with her problems, but I am NOT letting her enable MY problems. she’s already tried coming back to me months later to try and get me to apologize for leaving her behind… as if I didn’t try for months on end to support her and get her to see she deserved better than him.

I’m currently in a weird patch in my life where I’m trying to find a job and am currently waiting on getting my official graduation papers for my GED, so I’m not in college either. it’s been difficult to find new friends, but the friends I still consider close or “real” have stuck through it with me, and they’ve helped in healing. It’s still a wound I’m recovering, partially just because of how deep it goes (I’ve been bullied and mistreated by friends since elementary, so it’s a little bit of a sore spot) but I am refusing to come back to them or apologize for leaving after everything. I’m glad you’re doing better! though it sucks you ever had to experience it at all. pains of growing, I guess.
