True. In the song, the narrator tells his lover she is free to mingle and socialize throughout the evening, but to make sure to save him the dance at the end of the night.[5] During an interview on Elvis Costello's show Spectacle, Lou Reed, who worked with Pomus, said the song was written on the day of Pomus' wedding while the wheelchair-bound groom watched his bride dancing with their guests. Pomus had polio and at times used crutches to get around.[6] His wife, Willi Burke, however, was a Broadway actress and dancer. The song gives his perspective of telling his wife to have fun dancing, but reminds her who will be taking her home and "in whose arms you're gonna be."

Jumping off of what @Marcelin Kouassi said, the man who wrote the lyrics to this song wrote it because he did not dance with his wife at their wedding reception. This was because he felt like his disabled body would ruin the stunning and romantic moment and instead asked his brother to dance with his wife. It is a large part of why I am starting a disabled performance artist resource project. No person should ever be made to feel like they will ruin their own wedding reception. GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE!!!!!!! IF you can't, then just don't borrow from other people.

@@jackshepherd2396 What the heck are you talking about! I said, when Michael Bublé sings a cover, it becomes an original; as in, it becomes so popular as a mainstream song that it is sold out like it's an original, unlike any other one hit wonder covers you see by many others, or the ones you see on KZbin, which don't get much traction outside KZbin. Plus, his premium voice gives the song a quality of sounding like an original, & the songs have good production value too. I did not compare his songs to the original, as that's a subjective choice as to who likes which; because sometimes originals are better, sometimes the covers are, sometimes both are equally good; but that's a whole different topic. TL;DR : Name me one singer who primarily sings covers, and is as successful as Michael Bublé. Pentatonix is close enough, but only with their combined net worth.

"The songwriter, Doc Pomus, was crippled but his wife or girlfriend loved to go out and dance - so he would go with her to the clubs so she could dance. She would dance with other men while he sat on the sidelines and watched. But when it was time for the last dance of the evening, he would get up and dance the last dance with her. Hence, the song. True story and very touching! That is how this wonderful song was written! (He was crippled so he couldn’t really “dance” but he would go out there for a minute and she would push him around the floor a bit.)"

So Beautiful made me cry. Yet, happy too. My brother and a brother-in-law’s brother was paralyzed too. So this is so beautiful real true love when there is no jealousy! Cause he knows his wife truly loves only him! I love it! It’s so upbeat and so much love. How many men would not have extreme jealousy? That ruins a relationship! He knew the truth! Allowed her to dance. He knew he was her only true love!❤️

Partly true, it was indeed his wife but it wasn't because he went to clubs it was written because doc had to watch his wife dance with everyone else at their wedding due to him having polio

Not even once - could I bring myself to dare, so much as peek at a Buble song, until this very last few days. I just couldn’t do it, knowingly, from where I stood. While the band played on and danced. I was left sidelined, in silence.
