When you just want to QUIT | Bikepacking France

You know those days where you just want to quit? That was this day for me while bike touring in France. The bitter Mistral winds, paired with emotional overwhelm that built up, were really getting to me. Fortunately, some wisdom I was given years ago when I first started bike touring helped to turn things around.

So.. Me and my partner just came back from a 2 week tour from Germany through The Czech Republic and to Linz, Austria. And we were NOT prepared for the ridiculous elevation and hills in south (after Prague) Czechia. And so much rain. And punctures. We even changed our route a few times. I wanted to quit and cry a couple of times. But we meet some really nice ppl and took a lot of pauses. Booked a hotel instead of camping. Ate good food. Hugged and biked some kms. It was very hard. But we tried to make sure that we didn't miss the beautiful things around us. Now that we're back home we're so proud of us. And my partner told me that if we had laughed some every day - it was not an entirely bad day. And we laughed a lot. You take the good with the bad and you learn from it. Sometimes it's hard, but you push on. Tomorrow will be better in some way, maybe the sun will be out, or you'll meet some nice ppl, see cows or drink a good beer. ❤❤❤ Good touring to you 🌼

Those crazy winds are a good reason not to use frame bags, I did and although the wind was not as bad as you experienced I was blown all over the place. I look forward to see how you got on crossing the mountains into Spain, I found it much harder than France (following the Eurovelo 8) with steep rocky tracks and very variable signage. This said, one big plus in Spain were the motorists, I found them generally very patient and considerate. I found meeting and talking to other bicycle travellers along the route spurred me on.

I'm living in Perpignan , when the wind is too strong (TRAMONTANE) I prefer to stay at home than ride in the plains

DON"T QUIT!!!! I had a crappy day today as a friend of mine past away. I went out for a couple pushed rides to blow off some stress. I'm also trying to get my very late income tax in. Grrrrr. You and Michael are inspiring to me as biking is very therapeutic for me. I listen to ACDC to increase my cadence. Have a very safe journey you two.

That food you were eating looks absolutely delicious. You should do KZbin blog on cycling meals, as my meals though nutritious are boring. Ya head winds are a bitch but I ride a trike and if there is a reasonable high verge, I can duck under the wind a bit. In all my cycling I have only ever encountered one day that caused me to quite early and that was out on the Canadian prairies between Lloydminister and Maidstone.
