I believe that actually already somewhat exists, the All You Need is Kill manga (What Edge of Tomorrow is adapted from) touches on this a little bit - though it's in the lightest possible sense and only for a single page iirc - and so does Groundhog Day, although that's not a super serious movie setting. Of course, you could just play the Outer Wilds and do what you suggested instead, especially since I remember a character will go "wait how did you get here if you didn't bring your ship?" if you manage to get to one of the planets all by yourself.
