4:3 stretched to fit 16:9, it's to make character models look wider on the screen (it doesn't make them wider in the game world it just makes them wider on your screen) to make it easier for my actual eyes to see players at far distances like pit from long A. Also to increase framerate from ~250-300 to over ~400-500 fps which helps bhopping and helps make the game feel more consistent cause that's how the source engine rolls
