Nah Jacob that's not a bad thing at all imo. It means you've found a way to pick up the guitar and improve while having fun (making original music), at the same time. It's a great way to learn new techniques or create licks or melodies. Not only are you creatively engaged in writing something new, which is arguably the best thing about playing an instrument, you are also repeating sections 1000x until you get them down and immediately apply those new techniques or licks to practice. Keep it up and keep finding ways to enjoy improving your guitar skill and have fun at it

Straight up! The simple stuff is powerful when played well/uniquely amd enhanced creatively. Nothing wrong with more technical stuff either, but sometimes you need something simple just to stay with it. I've found, in my limited time listening to metal, that sometimes complicated stuff takes a lot more mental energy to enjoy.

fuck these are so REFRESHING. 10-12ish years ago I was a djent girl obsessed with riffs and tone, but then I started studying songwriting and theory, and found my own expansive and diverse local music scene. I picked up new instruments, and learned to not only appreciate but deeply care about and be inspired by nearly all styles of music. When I go back to a lot of the modern metal bands I used to be into, I’m immediately turned off by how cobbled together a lot of the song structures are, how masturbatory and compositionally overwhelming a lot of the guitar work is, and how the vocals are often so obviously an afterthought. But THIS is such a good example of how modern metal and good composition don’t have to be oil and water. I still like modern metal and wish more of it excited me the way this does. Keep doing what you’re doing, xoxo

Maybe you could pick up drums or simply ask another drummer if they could do a one take of how they may play on the song to get an idea of what it could sound like

The way you add effect to the drums is exactly the same as how you add effect to any audio track in your DAW, so it's the same like adding effect to your guitar for example... But if you separate each kit into different mixer channels, then you need to route them to one channel first and apply the effect there... (or if you want to apply the effect to the specific kit, then just route the one you need to that channel)
