I’m currently slow traveling and brought a giant suitcase filled with clothing for five months of full-time travel. I am at the end of month too and sick of most of what’s in the suitcase and half of it. I’m not even wearing. So I feel like I just need to start over. I have to throw away some of the basics that I got because they’re starting to look tired from over where. Since I’ll be changing countries England to Spain, I feel like it’s a good time to throw more things away or donate lighter and then when I arrive in Spain, pick up a couple new basics. I found this whole process way more intimidating than I expected before I ever left the US and now that I am still three months before I get back home I have a much better sense of what I’ll actually wear and what will look good on me as I am sightseeing or spending time at cafés. I would love to hear your perspective on my situation. I feel like a lot of people over 50 women are solo traveling now. I’m retired but also a digital nomad so I spend a fair amount of time in front of a screen and I want to look cute from the chest up. This is my first time making a comment. ❤❤❤

I tried everything on, piece by piece and examined how I look and was the look what I still wanted to wear. It was good therapy for me, because I discovered what I no longer liked and wanted to wear. I recently got a totally new hair style (short) but still need to work on my wardrobe so I can try to feel the best I can about myself. I am trying to reduce my weight by watching carbs per doctors advice because I have gained weight because I can't exercise because of my back issues, I am 5ft 2 inches tall weight is is down to 197 lbs currently. I have a small frame so I still have a ways to go on weight loss, doc says I pre-diabetic so I'm trying to wart if full blown diabetes. I could really use your help so I can quit feeling so bad about myself! I love watching your videos!

I actually have two closets. The one in the guest bedroom is full of dresses, most of them don’t fit me. They can all go. I also have some blazers in that closet. So those I will have to try on first before they go. I would definitely be interested in a checklist. Then I can start on my bedroom closet. It’s pretty full. It needs cleaned out. Yes, I totally agree! I don’t have enough space for all my clothes, so some goes into storage. I literately rotate my whole wardrobe, including shoes, and try everything on again. I have a Goodwill bag ready for all that doesn’t fit, suit me or is past date. It is helpful and necessary. I do need help with basics so a guide would be great! Thanks, Oralia.

I would love a list. I live in Paraguay but will be in the US for 4 months. I will be spending several months a yr in the US each year. This is exactly what I need to hear right now. Currently lost in my style after having 2 babies in 2 years and I’m wanting a wardrobe that is functional but stylish; I recall my mum being so so glamorous, stylish, confident and beautiful as I was growing up, and I feel like I want my little girl to have that same thought about me when she looks back on me. Yet unfortunately I currently feel super frumpy and stuck in the whole jeggings and long t-shirt look (despite spending all my money on clothes each month). I’d love to be able to look put together in the UK country style (we live in leggings, a basic long sleeve top, a fleece gilet or tweed jacket or Barbour coat and country knee high boots or wellies all the time but it feels so casual, I’d love to know how best to elevate it whilst still looking “local” 🤣

This video comes at a good time for me. In my case, I just purged several pairs of shoes from my closet that no longer fit. I have a problem keeping my feet happy and over the course of time, my arches have fallen and I need arch support and after being measured recently, I've been wearing a whole size too small. So, now, I will be buying with purpose and only shoes with good arch support. I can't replace all of my boots and shoes at once, so I'll buy them slowly. It does feel good to let go of things that no longer work for my body. The side effect of wearing shoes that are too small and not wide enough contributed to bunions, which I also have. I think it's taken me awhile to let go because many of these shoes were high-quality leather. I now know that I need to be measured more often to make sure that I'm buying the right size. I'd love a video on good basics as well. Honestly, I haven't found decent, basic t-shirts. I have been wearing J Crew Factory t-shirts, but I've found that they stretch out too much. I used to like the Gap for t-shirts, but many of them seem too thin now. And, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for basic t-shirts. I'd really like to find either organic cotton or pima cotton because I have sensitive skin and I prefer natural fabrics to synthetic ones. So, I am also slowly upgrading to better t-shirts, too.

I purge at the end of summer and at the end of winter. I will say I buy my clothes on eBay that way I don’t feel bad when I purge. Many times these well known designers haven’t been worn. Putting your hangers backwards is a good start because at the end of a season and you haven’t worn it donate!

Hello Oralia, I really enjoyed your video today. I have done something similar. I went from an all black wardrobe which as I retired I found drained me. I now only buy blue clothes now and that makes it easier when I shop online. I decided to only buy natural fabrics and have the rule if a new item comes in, one has to go out. I think you should show us the capsule when it is done. Separate issue: I've been finding that when I buy an item I've seen you review (sometimes before you do, sometimes after) often the waist just hits in the wrong place. It's related to height, of course, but not the same. It would be great, especially with dresses or nipped in tops/jackets, if you were to not just mention length, but also where the waist falls. So no matter the length, if you think the waist would/not be to high on someone 5'6" or 5' 8". Just a request, when it is noticable.

I think people take those 10 Items Every Woman Needs lists too literally. I use the list differently to suit my personal style but still have a good foundation of basics. A don't wear button downs so a white blouse for me would an ivory poets blouse or Victorian lace blouse or a V neck tee in a silky fabric. I don't wear pencil skirts but I do wear A line chiffon & rayon skirts (preferably midi to maxi) My neutrals are tan, brown, olive, plum & black/white. I arrange my closet is into mini capsules, usually by color. I have my closet arranged by color/item/ Summer/Winter.

I have items in my closet that are dressier and I used to wear to work. I'm retired now and I don't go any where that I need dressy clothes. These clothes that I have, fit me great, are a good color for me and I look good in them. I haven't gotten rid of them cause you never know when an occasion might come up that I need to look dressier for. I have lots of room in my closet because I don't have very many clothes. My biggest issue is fit, esp since 90% of buying is online. I'm an apple but my bust is a couple inches larger than my hips; no manufacturer sizing chart is accurate. I'd be ordering 4X when everywhere else I need a 1X. Same with waist since I have none. I wish they would list actual dimensions like shein (or shein was better quality) it would make a huge difference. I feel doomed to wear oversized tops and baggy bottoms.

With specialized fit needs, my advice is to fit for the biggest part of your body and have it tailored down. To avoid adding cost, as you shop, budget 10% - 15% of what you want to spend on a piece for tailoring, and spend accordingly. If it's not worth it for you to tailor it, then don't buy it. You'd be surprised how much better you'll feel with the proper fit, making the extra effort worth it. 😉
