Bro. I pay attention and keep track of the NBA a fair amount via highlights, games, podcasts and news articles. I literally haven't seen anything about Jokic's season or anything. That's how underrated and underappreciated this man is. Props for giving him the recognition he deserves

unrelated (sorta) tangent. people say that larry bird wouldn’t be as effective or be able to adjust well to today’s pace or wouldn’t be a 30 point per game scorer or some say not even a star. jokic is essentially a reincarnation of bird down to the iq and ability to break defenses and see far ahead and play at an iq level way ahead of others. it’s uncanny and pretty awesome to see especially at that height and i’m glad i get to live in an era where players like him exist and then on the other end of the athletic spectrum guys like bron and giannis

This is because of the state of the game now. The game is boring and predictable and Jokic has a game that lacks flash. I as a basketball fan love his style because of its requisite skill but to those who don’t dissect the game he’s boring as hell… I get it.

Because people like players who are “cool” I’ve been into basketball for a long time trust me most of peoples favorite players are counted “cool” they have a good physique, act baddass and play on the court we’ll. No offense But does Nikola jokic have any of that? other than that he is an amazing player on the court? People just don’t think he is cool he doesn’t have a good physique he isn’t “baddass” or cool and he isn’t really athletic on the court he doesn’t dunk over 2 people going full speed or shoot a buzzer beater halfway falling he is slow paced like mentioned in the video. That is why no one talks about him because people mainly acknowledge players who they themselves think they are cool… so at the end of the day, pretty privilege is a thing hate it or not……But i of course hope for the best for Jokic and think he deserves the MVP.

I personnally hate the NBA. Too much show, not a smart basket. However, seeing Jokic, Embid and Doncic or even Campazzo is a real pleasure. They get so much skills ... I believe american people don't know what the trully basket is. For example, Kaunas in the euroleague. the crowd applauds the foul the players made because they know it's a smart foul. The opponent get a physical advantage? A speed advantage? You make a foul. Crowd in Kaunas love this ... and it shows they know basketball, not a show ... (PS: sry for my english, hope you understood my point)

@@ion282 you know something....I actually definitely agree with you. I say this all the time. This is nothing compared to the show time Lakers vs Celtics. Not saying there aren't any good players, but so many games are so unbelievably sloppy and a lot of regular season games they don't try. Again, there are amazing players and teams from this era. But shooting three players doesn't equate to skill. While there are some amazing people who can dribble well, most can't. They don't block out, overall don't pass well, offense is stale and lacks schemes (way to much isolation), and just in general don't play the game that it used to. For people who like this sort of style there is absolutely zero hate from me. Steph, lebron, and several other freaks of nature have come out this era and are definitely amazing. But ya man, I wish in college they focused much more on team play and becoming overall more skilled. But that's not what college basketball is for in America. It is what it is though, I personally am a Boston Celtics fan and stopped watching for years but as of late they have been incredible and I started watching a game.

One thing you forgot to mention is how Jokic slows the game down so everyone has to play at his pace. The modern NBA is all about the 30 ft bombs and high flying, like you said, but Jokic has the ability to slow down or increase the pace of the game when he's on offense. Amazing outlet passes for quick transition points vs half court offense that seems to drain the clock. Great video btw!

Jokic is one of the most efficient players we've ever seen. The problems are that he's hard carrying a hobbled team, he plays for a smaller market, and his non-athletic body and style don't catch the eye of casuals/media. With his 2nd star out now, I don't think there's any chance the Nuggets end with a good record and thus Jokic will prob end up 4-5th on the MVP vote, but he's on track to have another career year and def deserves more respect.

@@ericmartin7418 because steals and blocks does not show whole picture. Player can chase steals, chase blocks. Iverson did that, Harden does that. Some other key reasons why I think Jokic is so overlooked/underrated right now: 1: Plays for a small market team: The mainstream NBA media has a strong bias towards large market, that pull in the most revenue. If you play for a small market the only time “analysts” on tv will mention you is in trade rumors. 2: He’s an international player: The NBAs audience is still predominantly American, and unfortunately most American viewers tend to take a longer time to warm up to international players compared to guys who went to universities they recognize 3: He often has a pretty subdued, unflashy behavior/demeanor: Despite his nickname and his tendency for on-court confrontation Jokic is usually a pretty reserved and non-theatrical player. He doesn’t really play to the crowd, he doesn’t really engage much with the NBA media, he doesn’t promote himself much on social media, and overall he doesn’t do much to hype himself up. He doesn’t wear flashy clothes or take a lot of endorsement deals. He’s not a magnetic personality in the same way a Steph or a LeBron, or even a Giannis is. 4: Lack of an established, Super Star teammate: While having a really famous teammate can often split attention/mvp votes they can also draw more casual or older fans to you, plus having help that makes your team better will attract more attention to you inevitably. I would say AD joining Bron in LA and Devin Booker gaining CP3 as a teammate are two really good examples of how a Super Star teammate can make the NBA media pay more attention to you. 5: Lack of an overall narrative: As Jimmy pointed out in the video, narrative often plays just as big if not a bigger role in determining the MVP than actual performance, and for all the reasons listed above it’s kind of hard for Americans to find a narrative around Jokic. Most Americans don’t know who he is and it takes time to build the kind of reputation where you can benefit from narrative. 6: General cultural difference: Jokic is a stoic, goofy looking, unathletic (by NBA standards), Serbian passing center who works out to Polka music, that unfortunately just not the kind of person the average NBA fan wants to celebrate. None of these reasons are fair or just, but this is generally how these things work both within the NBA media and among NBA fans

Never forget that these folks on the sports shows on the sports channels are not journalists reporting factual news. These are clowns with agendas on opinion shows. The highlight of their careers is to be the one to set and drive the narrative. Most of them are lazy AF. For 2 months all they could talk about day after day after day was Simmons and Kyrie. Kyrie and Simmons. You have a sport with 30 teams, and with prospects, well over 500 players to talk about, and these clowns just kept barfing out the same crap over and over as if they were going to be the one to solve the issue. Jokic is the clear repeating MVP if he can get to 70 games played and maintain his level of play. Blame Malone and company if the Nuggets aren't winning 80% of their games when Jokic is playing. It sure AF isn't Jokic's fault when they lose. Malone finally gives Nnaji a decent run and the kid explodes on the Knicks. I was thinking that he was going to have to change his last name to Green and make him look like male patter baldness was taking over to get some rotational minutes. The Nuggets have lost 11 games so far and ZERO of those losses are due to Jokic not playing well enough. But he definitely made a huge difference in 10 of the 11 wins.

No offense But does Nikola jokic have any of that? other than that he is an amazing player on the court? People just don’t think he is cool he doesn’t have a good physique he isn’t “baddass” or cool. I think another reason he is underappreciated is where he plays. If he played for a bigger market team (New York, GS, Chicago, etc.) I bet he would get TONS more recognition. You should do a video on great players who play in smaller markets and how they regularly get snubbed in all-star votes, MVP races, etc.

I had good court vision as center. I could always pass. I think baseball helped with that. Taught me accuracy. I could move with the ball too and was faster than the guards. I was only 6'2 though. I would have never played center in the NBA. My ball handling wasn't good enough to be a point either in the NBA.

Thank you for putting some shine on the nuggets. It too bad we are dealing with a litany of injuries to key players and even role player type players this year. But it's always nice to see a national basketball fan recognize Jokic's greatness. His ability to add something to his game every year (this year being defensive presence) has been a joy to watch throughout his career. One thing a lot of people don't consider about him is his ability to make the players around him better. By creating open shots and playing at his level it makes regular players on his team play better than they normally do. Look at Jeff Green's numbers when starting vs when he comes of the bench. Just being on the court alongside Jokic elevates his game.

@@supercooldude824 I get what ur saying. I kinda think that's why people appreciate Tim Duncan and there are a lot of similarities in their game. Both play smart basketball have an insane offensive skillset and while Tim was more athletic and a better defender Jokic has been quicker and has really had an impact on our defense (look at our defensive numbers with and without him on the floor and it tells you everything you need to know) and at the end Tim IMO kinda went unappreciated for how skilled he really was and I hope Jokic doesn't share the same fate because man is it fun to watch him work
