This video just goes over when you should rethink your DIY skills on your car. This 2004 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport has a crank pulley, or Harmonic Balancer, and a crank sprocket gear with warped shear key slots and a shear key that has been crushed into basically a ball. All stemming from not properly installing the pulley back on the shaft with key in proper alignment. This appears to have shaved the edge of the timing belt some as well as stretch the threads slightly on the crank pulley bolt.
I have already purchased a new pulley and crank sprocket gear for this car, and I am hoping that the damage to the crank shaft stub slot. Where the shear key slots into. Isn't too bad. There are few things I can do to fix damage to the end of the shaft without fully removing the engine if not disassembling the entire engine to get the shaft out.
Please. Know the limits of your DIY skills and when and where to apply them, as well as when to find professional references or assistance. Something as vital as your timing isn't very forgiving to even slight errors in the install procedure, especially if it is your only vehicle for transport.
I highly advocate for further learning and self repairs on your vehicles. However, for my DIY skills to be where they are has taken years of practice, a multitude of vehicles to work on with minimal repercussions of failure, and when needed a professional repair manual, of which I own a dozen of for the most common vehicles I work on.
If you have need for specific repair walk through or advice, please comment on any of my videos and I'm sure I can either find the information you need or make a video on the exact item in question. Thanks for watching.

This is what I’m thinking is wrong with my outback I just bought from a dealer. Been getting loud metalícese noises here and there. Worked on my cars cooling system which I think is coincidental but now my car barely has power and overheats. Not to mention I get a squeak and odd noises from the timing area
