The bios is likely going through it's detection and optimization routine's and waiting for various time-outs, then, if those don't work, reboots with other settings and tries again before it finally finds a set of settings that work. I've seen this many times with laptop's that have been dis-assembled and have had the CMOS battery disconnected for a while. When repair is done and it is expected to turn on... wait... find something else to do... it's surprising how long it can take sometimes. (or at least how long it FEELS like when watching it)

Hmmm I just had similar hustle today. Lenovo 2015 model. You plug in the charger power led flashers 3 times then stopped. I did some measure of couple of MOSFETs and I saw one behaving abnormal. Removed it plug in the charger fan came on then off then came on again then stopped, cpu getting warm 🥵. I replaced the MOSFET , it when to the old flashing power led story. I got pissed. I removed my MOSFET and put back the old MOSFET and it started working 😞🥱

The Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th gen(8th Gen intel) is a great laptop. I use the same laptop as my daily driver(Windows 11 Pro) but they are know for their Thunderbolt charging ports to go back. The software was faulty and unless you flashed the firmware when it was fairly new, alot of the USB C charging ports burn up. Lenovo replaced a ton of motherboards under warranty but i wonder if that's what happened to this laptop????

Why did you use 400 degrees to remove the charging port on the original board but only 325 degrees on the spare motherboard? If melting the plastic was an issue why did you use 400 degrees on the original motherboard?
@jeremylaidman6525 Жыл бұрын
heat+time=melting But hotter means quicker, so less time for heat to reach the plastic
@olexiylavrik Жыл бұрын
400 градусів прискорюють демонтаж. Пластик плавиться і йде на сміття. 340 - пластик не втрачає форми у новій деталі.
@HexMarksthespot Жыл бұрын
He's using 400 to remove the bad charging port so it will get hot fast, melting the solder quickly which means less time heating the board which protects the board. He doesn't care about melting the plastic in the port because he isn't reusing that port. He's using a lower temperature on the spare motherboard because he needs that plastic not to be damaged because he will be reusing that port, and is not concerned about that board since it's a donor board.
@alantorrance6153 Жыл бұрын
You removed the port from the board, but omitted to remove solder from the retaining lugs. Would have been a good idea to remove excess solder even before removing the bad port. Then clean all the terminals on the board with new good solder. The replacement socket should likewise have been cleaned so that lumps of solder do not make fitting dubious. Then, once you have set the replacement in place without obstruction of solder on the fixing lugs so that it sits fully down on the proper set of contacts, you should then, and only then, add some solder to the retaining lugs. Of course, if you had thoughts that flux was set inside the socket, this flux should have been scraped out before you attempted to solder it in place. You could then see if the internal contacts on the socket were damaged -- before attempting to solder it. If you follow all these steps, you can save yourself a lot of pain, sorrow, and wasted time. You may actually need to get a brand-new socket. Better luck next time!

I think that you are being very liberal with your comments, however I respect your comments regarding the old engine, I had a friend in the 60s who had a Austin A 35 car and when we came out of the snooker club he would go to start, it would not, and of course we would start to complain and make comments, Chris would say,hey stop now and talk to it, he would put the starting handle in the front and this is the weird part the more derogatory comments that were said, the longer it took, incredible but true. But I think the owner of this laptop has or someone has been messing about with it and your removal of parts and comments, verify that the owner hasn’t been completely honest. Great thing is you are and it also educate someone and show procedures, like the gauge or component that you placed in the charging lead? What is that?

I don't get it, you tested those coils. You get 7 Ohms, good. Then you get 18 Ohms, good, then you get 80+ Ohms, also good. And then you get an OL from another coil, and you say it's.. good? So when is a coil bad? What kind of Ohm value do you associate with a BAD coil?
@electronicsrepairschool Жыл бұрын
The coils are never bad, never found a bad coil, what i'm checking is the resistance of the circuit of the coils!
