You should do a video on fixing figures with serious damage. For instance my 1/8 Senjogahara Hitagi from Good Smile has broken multiple times on the stationary because of repeated dusting over the years. Or moving figures to dust and I stupidly picked up a FGO Minamoto Musashi from her head only to have it detach from her body and the body fell five feet to a wood floor. I build Gundam models so everything has been fixed but it may be a good video for others.

I do have experience repairing figures with simpler damage like broken foot pegs but I'm not sure if my skill level is good enough to teach other people haha. To me the hardest part about figures with paint damage isn't the painting part - it is color matching. Just to get a very specific shade or whatever color is on a figure's outfit or hair, often requires mixing up to half a dozen different colors from Mr. Hobby and there is no way of finding out what is the correct ratio for mixing. Hell, sometimes I don't even know which colors to start with, it is completely blind guessing.

I wouldn’t ever use any kind of sponge, even the softest sponge will leave fine scratches. I always use cloths designed for cleaning glasses to clean any of my figures.

I'm not a person easily bothered by these scratches and paint transfers unless it's on the face...guess where i got them 2 out of the 3 times it happened to me? I'm still pissed but on the face i didn't really wanna risk using anything to worsen the situation ...

usually a white eraser for pencils will clean it. best wait to fix it its paint a black spot in the face, so it will like a natural one.

I am definitely familiar with people like that even irl. They ask you for advice and then does the exact opposite of whatever you suggested. We call these people askholes. 🤣

Remembered that one time i tried to use melamine sponge to remove yellowing on one of my figures. Ended up scratching the paint and in the end i just decided to live with it and stop trying

Yes, melamine sponge is really just a very fine version of sand paper. An abrasive. People often underestimate the damage it can do if they abuse it.

I just had this problem on the new Amakuni Bombergirl Aqua, she has a small black spot on the front of her hair, it’s not really noticeable, but it’s there. But I’d never go near it, I know that I’m far more likely to make it worse, and I payed ¥36k for it.

I was brave enough to try to remove such a stain on a cheaper scale figure by wiping it with a damp microfiber cloth and water and alcohol. Hard way. It won't go off - guaranteed. In my case, 'the remains of the sprayed paint' in multiple spots were on the surface or a little below it. The manufacturer rushed and just repainted the affected spot. Since the paint was not dry and solid enough, the overlay paint took on the color of the affected paint spot. If you don't get rid of the problem using the procedure I described, don't try to do it hard way - the matter is permanently trapped. The safest thing to do is to file a claim. If not, let it stay that way. Well, good luck. Btw: will we se someday a video how to remove plasticizer from surface of figure?

On the plasticizer question, yes. My backlog is just very long when it comes to the amount of stuff in the queue i want to make. If there's one thing I'm not short of, it's ideas. I also need to figure out the best way to set up cameras for the filming of washing multiple figures.

You made me check my Schwarz figure and thankully mine had no defects. I've had to use Tweasers to pick off a sticky layer on small area on a different figure, made the mistake of leaving it on my desk for over a year. I cleaned it and have left it until I get around to mixing the correct skin tone paint and using a brush or airbrush to restore it I've fixed a slight paint defect with a skin tone marker pens but the colour was only slightly off on a small area on her leg on a fake Kanna figure.

This type of flaw isn't common. I don't think you had to worry.

If you want to get into repairing anime figures or anything related to paint and plastics, I'd recommend buying a couple counterfeits and intentionally damaging them and then try to repair the damage. The scratch damage isn't permanent though, it can definitely be repaired, it would require a moderately skilled modeler/gk painter though :3

It depends how deep the scratch is. Once you reach or go beyond the primer layer it is pretty much screwed, because you will need to repaint the entire paint so that it blends seamlessly, you can't just patch it like that. If you paint directly over exposed plastic without primers, needless to say the paint adherence won't be as great. And given this is the face which has decals for the eyes, with clear coating sealing it, you really can't repaint it unless you have the same exact set of decals as replacement. But yes, counterfeit figures are great for practicing repairs or painting.

@@EXkurogane This more depends on skill level. An entire repaint isn't really necessary with the correct tools. You could in theory, drill out that defect, fill it and do a light touch up. I can say that youtube resources on retro plastic restoration and other retro restoration, is a battering of rumor and myth, and it is just pure trash. There are methods that have existed long before these markets really came into form. ;[

I would leave it like that, not so visible, more like skin mark that wouldnt bother me at all... But stupid people so nitpicking that they rather destroy expensive figure...

The worst I have is a an A+ Brand Rias Gremory 1/4.5 suntan version. The black from the fabric animal print bikini transferred to the PVC staining it. Figure is disassembled in a garage cabinet. HobbySearch did refund me the price of the figure less the shipping which is fair. A+ messed up pretty bad on that one by not making sure the fabric print was color-fast and would dissolve from the plasticizer.

Yeah I really don't trust cast offs or clothing on figures because of paint/dye transfer. It is common with dollfies, I'd recommend looking up some ways dollfie collectors avoid it. :3

Cast-offable figures have a much higher risk of paint transfer, and the risk doubles if you live in a very hot and humid climate because the paint literally softens or melts. That is why many modern castoff figures nowadays don't make you peel rubbery clothes off a figure anymore. They make you pay more for extra parts and you just swap them.

That looks more like some type dye stain transfer more than quality control from factory. You are right it is a foreign object causing it but it's from transfer from the outside into the plastic. Can be caused by fabric, other plastic, or mildew seeping in. One of my kids had one of her dolls head wedge between wood desk and wall for awhile. Found it and pulled it out, not sure how long it was there, but it have those blueish gray stains right where the face made contact with the wall and desk.. I've also come across many of those blueish gray stains from old toys. Best method to get rid of dye transfer out is with benzoil peroxide (acne cream) and uv light. Depends on how deep the stain gets into the plastic will determine how hard it will take to remove or even possible at all. I'm not telling anyone to go and do this method, as with anything is do at your own risk. Do some research on doll stains.
