I vividly remember jokes about “lol”being cool new slang, before Gen Z was born.

Haha. I'm early GenZ and it shows in my speech. I know and use about half of the GenZ slang and need to look up the other half.

I'm early Gen Z too (to clarify, 1998) and barely know any of the Gen Z slang. Might be because I'm from a country where English is a second language and I didn't partake in the internet culture as closely until just a few years ago (while I've been on the internet for over one and a half decade I didn't interact particularly closely with any online community until around 2020, mostly just surface level interaction at most with topics of interest with very few exceptions. I didn't even hear any of the Gen Z slang prior to like 2021)

LOL has literally been around since the beginning of the Internet. It actually goes back further than that, but then it actually DID mean "lots of love/luck."

This is random but it seems like because of the Internet, all Gen Z must have a pretty common vernacular. Whereas the sayings this Gen X boss is trying to translate seem very British to me, an American; and American Gen Xers would say something entirely different as well

This boss is more oit of touch tha a Boomer. I rember messing around with my friends in the 80's, one of us wouldlake a good joke, then the otuer would look on with a blank face and say "L. O. L." The 1980's!!! 40 years ago.

She perfectly encapsulates how her generation is still the one that learns, adapts and then uses the words against the other two main generations. Cringe.
