You guys definitely captured the DM frustration. That said, letting the new players burn down the tavern is actually a necessary ritual and shows them that DnD isn't limited like a normal video game RPG and you can in fact go on a murderous rampage if you want, just don't expect to get away with it.
@nlm618311 ай бұрын
Haha this is so true. Although this is exactly how we ended up with one player being branded as a thief in the first 5 minutes and another made our first mission to make enough money to get her out of jail. We ended up leaving her there because she really didnt grasp the concept that you cant just kill everyone you dont like. Love D&D.

Thank you so much for the wonderful show in Hamburg last week. I think my friend 'Barbara' (Bärbel actually) will be stuck with that name now. Both of my friends were so afraid that you'd talk to them because they only have little English and the sound made it a bit difficult for them to understand you at first, all of us ended up having a really great time. You created such an incredible atmosphere and it's honestly so impressive how you managed to work all of the audience information into your sketches even if our answers weren't really helpful. It's lovely to see how Hogwash has evolved since the Fringe. From the sketches, to the bread throwing, to your singing, it's simply brilliant. We talk to the shopkeeper and got the DM‘s explanation of our quest. On the way out a New member decided to test his skill as thief and pocketed something. Shopkeeper came running out after yelling we were thieves pointing at the new guy. We fought our way out getting no supplies but he was mortally wounded wounded. We had a cleric with healing skills but instead he pulls a reanimate the dead spell and turned him into a zombie for the rest of the quest. lol. We both came to the wrong conclusion, and the game went into a charity shop.
@Emma_W_11 ай бұрын
This sketch is so utterly brilliant - the plot, lighting, editing, soundtrack - I actually started leaning towards the screen. And the characters too! Suits is so well done. With this level of nerd it would be easy to say it's Hog - but the seriousness and the annoyance is pure Suits (and there's not enough laughing for it to be Hog!). And the tiny expressions make it look like Suits is getting these wee flickers of joy from his friends getting into it (even if it's Hog suppressing a laugh 00:58). Very convincing. I love Suits. Aodghán is also pretty great and convincing here. Not arsed and angry but also accidently letting himself get into it, but completely himself in the end. And Chris - here I actually think the bully from the 80s does work as a contrast to Suits, like the set up of them both not being into D&D works. As a character himself... I don't know. The glance at the camera when he thinks he's got high charisma is funny and makes him feel a bit real. And because he's playing a character you don't see so much actual character so it kind of hard to judge. Though the ending with Chris's 'whoa what a quest' feels kind of jarring and a bit caricaturey. Am I saying anything interesting? No. I just wanted to acknowledge it is difficult really. Like you are trying to set up three characters who in different scenarios are always two against one and the dynamics of who the two and one are has to be able to change. I rewatched all squatters and can't really think where it's like three individuals all different against each other. Maybe nearer the start (of episode 2)? Or in this one when C & A are arguing - a great moment. Like I've seen others say I think Chris being if not loveable then at least likeable is good. Like I get the other two are arses at times but they also have moments where they're not so awful or you can see why they're like that (low self esteem, low prospects, very narrow lives). And personally - I don't know why Chris has to be so stupid. I don't know why everyone has to be so mean either 😂 though I'm getting used to it. And with this sketch they actually didn't seem just mean. I've said this a few times now - but this is my favourite squatters to date! I really enjoyed it!
@anonymous_selkie11 ай бұрын
Good FAHnalysis there! I also thought this sketch was really good, but a bit more difficult to tease out the Squatters characters from their D&D characters (multiple levels of acting!). Like many FAHns (I think) I'm trying to figure out where they're going with Chris' character and what version of him "works best." (I did rather like it in Episodes 1 & 2 when Chris seemed to be the polite people-pleasing one with a properly-adjusted moral compass - but then he turns to the "dark side" a bit at the end of Ep. 2 and it feels a little bit as though they've let him "fall" from there.)
@Emma_W_11 ай бұрын
@@anonymous_selkie Ah, thank you for taking the time to read it 😅 I am certainly one of those fahns wondering about Chris! Picturing original Chris in this, it does still work. It's just different. They just seem to so easily completely capture their other characters (Anne, Oisín, Barry, McCormacks, Mrs Geraghty) but maybe it is the needing the characters to play different role in different scenarios that's the difference here (or thinking about it again now maybe I'm wrong about that and it's not necessary with the right characters). Anyway, I enjoy things by analysing and thinking about them. The squatters sketches are giving me lots to think about! Thanks, fellow fahnalyst!

He's very suspicious this guy 🤔 Maybe Suits should've given him luck -10, like this every attempt to murder someone would've not worked out 😅
@JeleFili_savage_Filipomena11 ай бұрын
@@Ensign_Roque Hahaha, yes! He wields the all powerful sword in the air. When suddenly it disintegrates into little pieces raining down on his head foiling his plan. As due to an ancient curse no elf can touch the mighty Sword of Galabrian.

Love it! The burning tavern mention reminded me of the actual D and D livestream. So funny! Poor Hog

The set and lighting is so good. I have never played this, I think I am too old for this. And this looks like a game to be played in cree0y basements. 😂 Hog's costume is so good. And he looks like a great storyteller. 😍

Nope. Never too old, never too nerdy about it.

Ah this was excellent (& I hate quests of any description!). Any chance Hog did some method acting for this one..?! Can we put ‘Destroy the Tavern!’ on a T-shirt yet?

Loved the three shows in Hamburg, Cologne, and Rotterdam the past weekend! ❤️🤩 I'm so glad my friend could watch two of the most happening Hogwash shows that I've watched so far! She may have told you that I dragged her to the shows but she absolutely liked the shows!!

Hahahahaha I definitely have to send this video to my game master ! This first time I did a roleplaying game, my first action was to jump out from the tavern's window ! 😂

This video perfectly echos the sentiment of 'its easier to turn DnD players into your friends that is to turn your friends into DnD players'. I very much emphatise with Hog here, the struggle just isn't worth it and sessions with people that aren't passionate about their characters just tent to suck. One schmuck is fine since you can either reform or boot him/her. But more than that just needs to disaster. Never gove out pre made characters, since your character is the main way you interact with the world and people just wont care if they dodnt make themselves

OMG you did a sketch on one of my biggest hobbies AND then ended it with the Rotterdam DOOMDAAAH. I visited the show not even a week ago, super hyped to see the ending. Also went to see you guys in Amsterdam with the same show in October last year and it was even more brilliant than the first time. Absolutely loved your interaction (and yes, the bread throwing was (almost) better than the whole show :p). Can't wait to see you guys again!❤ P.s. yes pleeease try a collab with VLDL,my 2 favourite youtube channels together would be the absolute dream

Roll with the punches, save the lost plots and subplots for another game. "You want to try to destroy the tavern? Ok, how? Do you just start attacking a person in there, or do you just take a swing at a wall or a table?"

Nice use of the dice for transition there. Can't wait for more episodes. Squatters has such a bro vibe, I'm excited to see how a woman's voice can add even more hilarity to an already hilarious scenario.
