A more optimized build would be to start as a Fighter - you get proficiency in heavy armor only at level 1, via Fighter, Paladin, and certain subclasses of Cleric, of a Feat, but that requires 4 levels in one class, but with Fighter you get a combat style, and the ability to heal yourself.
@dragonwolf35274 жыл бұрын
Thats why the wildernesguards had paladin magic and not the clerics
@TaismoFanBoy4 жыл бұрын
@@lockwoan01 You can't wear heavy armor; point buy (assuming you're not rolling for stats), HEAVILY limits your stats. Your strength score is likely a bare 13 or 14. So, I mean, you could use 16 AC heavy armor... or you could take 15+dex medium armor and maybe get 17 AC if you have +2 dex? Really, Heavy Armor just isn't needed for this multiclasser. Optimal would be to either start as barb (for max hit die at level 1 to be maximized HP), or rogue (for 4 skills, +2 over standard, instead of only gaining +1 by classing INTO rogue). But the 17 and 18 AC heavy armors require 15 strength to wear, and seeing as you need a 13 in dex, int, wis, and cha, it's not really feasible since you aren't likely to get any ASIs. I've run my own version of Abserd, but instead of annoying I built it to actually be somewhat viable, and those are the conclusions I came to.

2 levels in each of Paladin and Barbarian, a level in Rogue, a level or 2 in Warlock, 2 levels in Druid (specifically Circle of Spores), and a level in Sorcerer gives a very high melee damage output. Paladin can Smite and gets martial weapons, Reckless Attack from Barbarian lets you use Rogue's Sneak Attack, Warlock gives you extra low-level spell slots to Smite with, Spores Druid gives you extra damage from Symbiotic Entity, and Sorcerer gives you Green Flame Blade (using an ability scores you already need high), which adds 1-3 extra D8s of Fire Damage when you reach 5th level. You can even throw in some Artificer to make your own +2 weapon (+1 before level 10, but the other stuff will get you to level 10).

Used point buy to make his stats as flat and average as I could. He's neither really good, nor really bad at anything. His catch phrase is "I have no opinion about that." Left home to join the military, but skipped out immediately after completing his training. They're NOT looking for him. Due to a book keeping error there's no record that he signed up. There's a girl back home he really likes, but he's afraid she doesn't know he's alive. In fact she doesn't. She never noticed him before. He's out in the world pining for a girl that doesn't know he exists and hiding from a military that doesn't either. Someday he may become the Patron Saint of the everyman, but probably not.

This is hilarious, and I have only one suggestion: Make him the "Unchosen One"! Say there was a prophecy by some deity of a child who would defeat some other deity, and that baby was to be Jondo. But by the time of his birth, the deity had made amends with the other deity and stopped caring about the grudge (forgetting all about the prophecy he'd set in motion). He had forgotten sending this young cleric 50 years ago a grand mission to tell this child's parents of his destiny, so when the cleric (now an old man) showed up the night of Jondo's birth and communed with his god to divine the grand, cryptic speech he must now give about Jondo's destiny, the deity went, "...Ooh.... ah... yeah, about that... Nevermind!" And then the cleric, one part annoyed and one part devastated, abruptly left and was never seen again. Jondo's parents went, "Huh, that was weird," and went about their lives.

Virgil the gerbil. I was a level 1 gerbil since i was not smart enough to gain class levels. Being a sub-optimal race gave me some level adjustment bonuses to compensate, so really I had like 13 levels to give Virgil. So obviously I made Virgil as tall as the empire State building as a ''race modifier''. Friend is a mage and decides to polymorph me into a human until the last moment. I played some wierdeer concepts, like a Monk 1/Druid. I could double-use the Wisdowm Bonus that way. There was even some supplemental book in place, that allowed me to add the Wisdowm Bonus to AC again. For a vow of Powerty (wich means nothing but material components and simple clothing as gear; of course melee spells like Shillelagh were allowed). In Neverwinter Nights I did a few wierder concepts: My first character to finish the game was actually a Elven Monk that used swords. Some of the wierder stuff I tred were like a Sorceror/Paladin to get heavy weapons + magic, to later multiclass into that partial Dragon class. Once I played a level 1 Artisan (NPC class), then fighter. The Idea was to copy a character from a book. And of course there are classics like 2 Levels of Fighter with any other Class that has a 1:1 BAB ratio. I think they put in a lot of work to make such extreme multiclassing less viable. Like moving a lot of the interesting stuff to higher levels. Even just level 2.
@One_Eyed_Man_6 жыл бұрын
I did that once. He was a teifling bard/barbarian, dual wielding clubs (drum sticks), named "Garth Ironshod" (his stage name). He was totally metal.

Now, funny enough, there's is an effective way to make Absurd decently effective. First up, make him an Ordinary Human. Then, use the point-buy system to get 4 13s, a 12, and a 11. Put the 13s in Strength, Dexterity, Wisdom, and Charisma, the 12 in Intelligence, and the 11 in Constitution - add bonuses, and you have 4 14s, a 13, and a 12 - this allows for all the multi-classing. Also, at Level One, start as a fighter, to get proficiencies in all weapons, shields, and armors, plus a fighting style. After that, do your leveling up to the other classes. Now, while you get a bunch of first-level spells, you can use them in higher level spell-slots. Also, remember this, at level 14, he'd have a +5 Proficiency bonus in his attacks, plus an extra +2 modifier for everything (but Wizard (and Artificer) spells, which would have a +1 modifier), so, so long as he rolled a 15 or better on the D20, he's got a good chance of hitting someone. Also, with 2 skills from his background, 2 from Fighter, 1 from Bard, 1 from Ranger, 1 from Rogue, he's good in 7 skills. Then there's the various tools he could use from certain classes, and he can play music. So, crazy, yes, but doable.
@AzureIV4 жыл бұрын
Plus Expertise from Rogue 1, and all his Cantrips count him as a 14th level character, so they do pretty decent damage (he gets like 3 spell attacks with each Eldritch Blast, or 3d10 on the damage of Firebolts for instance).

But there is an argument for starting with barbarian in order to get that sweet d12 hit die
@lockwoan014 жыл бұрын
@@21austro98 There is that, but the downside is that he'd lack proficiency in Heavy Armor - okay, not much use with the build, as that would prohibit the use of any Rages, as well as disadvantage on Stealth checks, and he'd have reduced speed with armors requiring strength scores above 14 - but unless one starts off as a Fighter, Paladin, or certain subclasses of Cleric, there's no other way, short of a feat, to get proficiency in that type of armor - and if he did have proficiency in that armor, and was wearing it, then he could cast the various spells he knew, not have to worry about making save throws with disadvantage, perhaps act as a backup-emergency tank (behind the pure strength-based fighter, barbarian, paladin, ranger, and anyone with plenty of hp)
@Seergun4 жыл бұрын
@@lockwoan01 Actually, you don't have to start as a fighter for heavy armor: base cleric only gives medium, and cleric subclasses start at lvl 1, so multiclassing into one of them gives heavy armor proficiency.

A fb group I was in asked for a compelling backstory to make their BBEG more relatable. Basically it boiled down to the BBEG had set out to dominate the land; as a child his family was relatively poor but living a decent life in their village. In waltzed a group of adventurers seeking fortune who determined the village elder was corrupt; they killed him and threw everyone's lives into turmoil long-term. The village went on to play host to a group of bandits for a time, the "heroes" returned and ruined things again; this time, due to the circumstances, all adult males in the village were slaughtered. The BBEG, only a teen, watched as his relatives were killed directly or indirectly; his time with the bandits wasn't ideal but it taught him a fair amount about the trade. He fell in with a merchant caravan as a hired guard; he saw faraway lands, learned how to barter as well as be a more effective fighter from the people he did business with (warrior monks, barbarian clans, etc). He eventually found his way back to the old village site only to discover it was, once again, inhabited; everything had been rebuilt, the land was prosperous, and there were statues dedicated to the adventurers who repeatedly ruined his life erected in the town square. BBEG had accumulated enough wealth in his travels that he decided to settle down; he bought a large house and sorted the towns' problems out through diplomacy. He'd gathered a small entourage of associates from various lands who now served as his personal guards as well as informants; day by day he expanded the village into a hub for trade and commerce, eventually his home became a fortress to protect those inside. Steadily the lands around his home were assimilated, he brought villages together through trade and mutually beneficial diplomacy; the only constant theme to the dealings being "This village, a subsidiary of ____, will play no host to adventurers or self-proclaimed heroes". The end goal was to unite the land so adventurers and heroes wouldnt be necessary; a unified force could, ideally, look out for itself. There was one village in particular that drew BBEG's attention; on the initial diplomatic meeting, an old woman mistook him for her grandson. Despite his attempts to convince her otherwise, the old woman treated him as family and insisted he come to visit. From that day on, a few times per week, BBEG would set out with a precession of guards to visit the village; the house would be heavily guarded while a few of their number helped the old woman do chores around her house. She and BBEG would talk, laugh, and drink tea together; she was the closest thing to family he'd had in decades. When the visits came to a close she would always send him home with a basket full of spice cakes, remarking he's a growing boy and needs to keep up his strength; he's so thin and pale, if he bulks up she's certain the others will be his friends (referring to the numerous guards outside, not the two helping with her chores). With regards to the elder of the village, the terms of diplomacy weren't to the their liking; all the same this particular village received armed protection from BBEG. He wanted to keep the old woman safe no matter what. Eventually The lands fell on hard times though; orcs descended en masse and all available force was needed to repel them. It was a bloody conflict, but BBEG was victorious; numerous villages were destroyed, the old woman's took heavy casualties. He set out at once to check on her but things were grave; the village had repelled assault early on but lacked the infrastructure to handle the various corpses that had piled up. Disease was everywhere and the old woman had fallen ill; unable to care for herself, she'd deteriorated greatly by the time he arrived. They had a silent moment together before she smiled and passed in her bed. The loss devestated BBEG; had the elder simply accepted the terms they could have diverted greater resources, he could have saved her. That night he overtook the village by force, diplomacy was no longer his methodology

90% of all D&D characters in history are murderhobos. Seriously, how many people do you know who actually purchase permanent places of residence for their characters? How many parties go into the homes of sapient creatures, kill them, and take their stuff? (butitisokaybecausealignment)

Undecided Ant I've always wanted to do a campaign where the party is responsible for protecting a city of enlightenment during its founding. Then we flash forward a thousand years and the descendents of the party have to wreak vengeance upon the city's destroyers, like in Heavy Metal. Or even do just a simple analogue of settling the New World. Anything to get the players personally invested in the world.

PedanticTwit i made one player the mayor(it was up to that player what they would be called) and then the rest started making ways to take over. They is no loyalty, only passive aggression and insane cult

Abserd needs a mizzium apparatus (uncommon item from ravnica setting) and (roguish) expertise in arcana. Then he could theoretically cast any spell in the game up to his highest spell slot (4th level needs a 6 or higher on the die if we are assuming int 14). Casts levels 1-2 without trying. "So how does the character work?" Very well!

@wolfwhitefire6 жыл бұрын
That time when facing the final boss would have been perfect Abserd: (casts darkness) "Aha! Now he can't see us sneaking up behind him." (saying that out loud) I can easily imagine his character saying that in that voice he was using.
@AzureIV6 жыл бұрын
I don't think he even has the levels of spellcasting required to cast Darkness. Isn't that like a 2nd or 3rd level spell? I think he only has 1st level spells.
@zelda4ever726 жыл бұрын
AzureVI if he is a shadow sorcerer he can cast it with sorcerery points so long as it is 2nd level. Darkness wouldn’t count against your known spells and you didn’t have to use a spell slot to cast it.

Abserd actually has infinite potential to become the strongest being in existence if he was only taught, unfortunately for him he is too annoying that even when some one sees his potential they can't spend more then a year around him which is why he keeps getting passed around and accepted into highly regarded groups that teach him different things.
@raderpaderp76126 жыл бұрын
I would think it would be difficult to keep him for 15 minutes

Strangely, a introvert character might not be as annoyed. They might appreciate Abserd's honesty. Abserd might be a better character pick for a small two-person party. Something like Pinky and the Brain, Yogi and Boo Boo, or Secret Squirrel and Morocco. It'd be a hilarious duo of a super-serious character and Abserd.
@sgplaysit87276 жыл бұрын
Abserd sounds like my idea of playing a child wizard. You are not useful. You are just there to be something the party loves or hates.

You know what would be funny? If this character became a recurring villain, preferably in a low-level adventure. Not the effective kind, mind you. The Team Rocket kind. He has (somehow) managed to get to lvl14 but he's only really threatening enough to pose a threat to lvl 3 characters or whatever.

Also remember that a lot of GMs award full XP for simply "resolving" an encounter, wether or not that means causing the enemy to die, flee or stop fighting. Causing your foes to throw up their arms in frustration could count.

I MADE MY VERSION OF ABSERD. My DM absolutely hated him until I revealed that his faith was literally 'the DM' (it explains his backstory as to why he was kicked out of every guild/group he ever joined- people thought he was crazy for screaming questions at and taking advice from an unseen entity in the sky or whatever). Fun fact: we all expected Jack (his name was Jack O. Altred for 'jack of all trades') to be the first one to die, but he ended up being the only PC to live through the campaign (but only because being chaotic neutral he basically ditched all his party members when the going got rough). The best part is that it was a prequel campaign and now we have to retcon in how a different PC (who is an NPC in the original campaign) survived.

For everytime we cast stoneshape around the magical dungeon door. For everytime we walked strait to mordor, past 80% of dm prep time and instigated self-inflicted TPK. For everytime we murdered the dm's favorite npc. Now he won't dm anymore, and he will make our life hell. With all of the multiclass skill-ranks, he will use slight of hand and stealth to pocket every shekel, propagate every splitting of the party-as if to chastise our chaotic choices in his games. But we will know no escape from this suffering. As the ride has just begun, our ex-dm's bullride upon our cursed hides and repenting souls. Until the bell of our ex-dm's sanity tolls loudly, we will be, forever, npcs to _His_ games. And _He_. He is hungry. Hungry for that sweet revenge upon our table. And he cannot be stopped.

Love this! I’ve just started playing DnD and I was reading the rule book when I saw the multiclassing part. I instantly thought of being all classes and enthusiastically asked my boyfriend about it, and he just looked at me and then told me to watch this video. Now I know it’s possible!
