Yes, this is a gorgeous piece. However, I would not purchase another Yema watch. My experiences with the brand have been pretty bad. Like most watch nerds I have been impressed by the beautiful designs. So much so, that I purchased the Navygraf and the Superman Heritage simultaneously. Long story short is that I wound up returning both ...one for a refund, the other I returned twice for "repair". (and it still is not working properly). On each of those occasions I found the folks in customer service to be contentious at best. One will find many online comments to the effect that poor customer service is merely a "French thing". Well, I have dealt with other French brands like Baltic and LeForban and I have found their customer service to be stellar. I get it. It is a new brand trying to play with the big boys by producing their own movements. They are to be admired for their ambitions and zeal. Growing pains are expected. I don't know anything about business or marketing. But as I see it, until they they master quality and durability the people in customer service should be bending over backwards, forwards and sideways to make things right for their customers. At this point in time I can only consider Yema a glorified fashion brand trying to move a lot of merchandise.

I've had the opportunity to handle, photograph, and review a number of Yema's releases over the past two years. Some were prototypes. Others were production models. I even bought one. In fact, you use one of my photos in this review, lol. I certainly agree that they have turned a corner on design and are making moves toward vertical integration. Like all brands/companies on the move, growing pains are to be expected. Calling them out on issues like QC and customer service is important--for consumers and for the brand. Their aesthetic really speaks to me. I wish them well in this journey and I hope they respond to these critiques positively and continue to improve. Great review, Max.

As a frenchman I really love Yema and their design. Pulled the trigger for a Yema GMT last year. Straight off the box, GMT hand issue, GMT system seems broken, the GMT hand was jumping back and forth with an awful feel. Sent it back at my own cost at the factory, came back with the exact same issue. Sent it back again, and then the GMT part was finally fonctionnal but.. hour hand misaligned ! That was the last straw for me, sold it.

So true, Yema sucks balls when it comes to customer service and QC. If you are unlucky to get their watch and it craps out they will either totally ignore you or it will be an endless email chain in hopes that you will eventually quit. Even if they will accept that it's their fault Yema will ask you to pay the ridiculous amount for the return shipping (they promised to refund the shipping if they determine that the issue is their fault). A friend of mine decided to go till the end, agreed, and eventually got back the watch in exactly the same condition he sent it with an issue still there. As you guessed no refund for shipping either. It looked like they didn't even touch it, just repacked it and sent it back. When confronted, they responded that they did all the necessary service refusing to elaborate further, and then just ghosted him. The point is to spend your money elsewhere, they sell overpriced horribly made watches that have no cover post-purchase. The only other brand that can rival their crappy CS and QC is Dan Henry.

Movement clearly inspired but not based on ETA. This Navygraf is really great and it's my 15th Yema (among them, 8 divers). And nothing to complain about their in-house movement (I have 2 with Yema 3000 and 4 Yema 2000). A lot of progress in QC and customer services those last 2 years (and I had the chance to visit their new factory so I could ask everything I want about QC). Yema is sitll a family company, not a big one. And they are about to deliver their Micro-rotor new movement, design by a famous french-swiss watchmaker Olivier Mory, with 80% made in France (bridges and plates from their own manufacture), which is a very cool challenge.

@@lorenzomasia9024 MBP1000 has been replaced by an upgraded in-house movement called Yema 2000. Yema3000 is the GMT version. No more MBP1000 since then. I have two recent Navygraf, this GMT (Yema3000) and a bronze one (Yema 2000). I only have one Yema Superman with an MBP1000 (Yema Bronze Blue "Maubydick") and 4 with ETA, Sellita or Yema 2000. All my other recent non-superman Yema have the Yema2000 3 hands movement (except for one with micro-rotor CMM20). I bought the Yema Superman Bronze GMT with the 3000 movement. I had to return it twice, first because of a problem with the date and second a problem with the GMT hand. NEVER buy a Yema. I bought a GMT from them, 1450 dollars, and it didn't work when I got it. When asked to fix it for me, they said I'd have to send it back, and get it in a "few" months time. Brand new watch, needs an additional "few" months because they couldn't do the simple effort of making sure to QC test it before it leaves. Would strongly urge not to buy, plenty of better options for a lot less money.

I love that you have done a report on this watch. I think it is a brand, especially in its high-end diving range, for enthusiasts and nostalgic lovers of the sensations of the past. I have a Superman Heritage special edition with eta 2824 Elaboré Grade and it works for me at +3/5 seconds. I fell in love as soon as I saw it-precious bracelet- and when I received it, I felt when I put it on all the authentic and special touch of being in another era. I don't think many brands give you this. It is also true that it is perhaps his most representative watch and it shows a lot. Excellent experience for me so far. Greetings from Granada, Spain.

I have the predecessor model to the Yema Navygraff GMT. What I like about the new version is the applied indices, two-color bezel and yellow GMT hand. What I like about the previous version is the size (slightly larger at 39 mm) and slimness (clearly smaller at 12.7 mm). The design is great, but I have no complaints about the older version. With regard to the movement and accuracy, the Yema 3000 in house movement is working extremely well at +2 seconds per day. It quickly became the favorite watch in my collection, and I think this new version will be similarly excellent.

Yema has some nice looking designs, and I do admire them trying to produce things "in-house" and in France. However, I would not consider buying a Yema given the horrible QA/QC and customer service that has been discussed. A brand like Yema must understand that their product is only half of the equation. Customers are also putting their faith behind a company with little track record. Right now, seems that it would be misplaced faith.

I bought a Yema Navygraf 2 years ago and it has been a mixed experience. The case is rather flat but the female end links flairs out too much. It doesn't drap down at the lug ends, thus wearing a bit large for my small 6.25" wrist. Bracelet tapers well, from 19 to 16 mm. My bezel alignment was off and still kinda irritates me (am a somewhat OCPD type). The movement was slow by at least 25~30s/day in the beginning. Somehow, it magically improved after some run in period to -2~3s/day. I like the Yellow Hands and Orange Indices as it's unlike any other. Overall, there are some hits but also misses.

I have the same Navygraf model. Interesting how much the design has evolved in a short amount of time...I've always been of the opinion our edition is somewhat stark and toolsy looking (especially in contrast to the reviewed model). Mine is actually about 25-30s/day fast, but will fluctuate depending on how it's stored...I've wondered if the accuracy has improved with the updated movements, or if mine was just especially jostled on its way from France. Anyway, I came here to say that my bezel is INCREDIBLY tight...always wondered if that was intentional!

@@derekjdoug Yeah.. as I mentioned. This model has a couple of hits as well as misses. If only they could get their build quality somewhat more consistent. My bezel turns ok, just the alignment irritates the hell out of me.

I’ve been fortunate and so has my brother in law - both of us are blessed to have a watch budget and enjoy Rolex and Omega but the time period in which the Superman was created is my favorite decade (pre NEO 70s) and I bought the Superman a few years after the QC mess - and then my brother bought the same one. Both watches are excellent QC has been fine…purchased mine in Europe and the quality I got was outstanding. I’ve watched Yema and they’ve come a long way not to mention Americans (I am American) talk about this brand differently than Europeans. Baltic and Yema and Serica (even with the issues) and Le Forban even are celebrated and respected in Europe. I’m back in the states and it’s interesting to hear American watch guys - you can tell they haven’t traveled a lot. Sheesh even Steinhart in Germany 🇩🇪 is respected as a legitimate Swiss brand in America it’s frowned upon from what I can tell.

Great video. IMO A+ on colorway. What pulls it together is the Navy theme and that parachute strap. Besides that the whole watch is, how do you say boring. Definitely not worth a G. The other Yema watches featured here have so much character and distinction. Every single one of those could get my money. But this one's not even a true GMT at that price point.. I’ve bought my first Yema a few months ago: a limited edition Rallye 5 Turbo chronograph. Love the watch, zero problems. Sorry to read the bad experiences of many buyers and hope Yema makes a step further as a Brand by fixing QC and Customer service issues. As I’m a backer of their new microrotor watch, shipping soon alledgedly, I have to tell that there have been some communication shortcomings in these months and there’s work to be made in this area too, I believe. A part from that I’m totally satisfied with my first Yema and find it better than expected. Looking forward to receive the Wristmaster MR.

Hi, I’ve received the Wrsitmaster Micro-Rotor about one and a half months ago. The watch is beautiful: slimmer that I immagined, great case, dial, movement finishings. But It had stopped after a few minutes of wearing it, so I had to send it back to France the next day. I was very disappointed but knew that many Wristmasters were having technical issues and needed immediate servicing. I got it back in two weeks and the servicing process was simple and I feel I was treated with great attention… of course, after one and a half years of waiting. Now the watch is running smoothly and I’ve been wearing it since then. This is an ambitious project for Yema and besides some delays and consistency issues in communication and QC that need to be solved , I feel very satisfied to have a beautifully crafted, good looking watch, with a newly developed manifacture movement on my wrist. At the end of this journey, it was worth the wait for me.

My youth spans the '60's & '70's and I find Yema's designs to be retro rather than dated. Over the past 3 years I've purchased 7 Yemas and experienced zero problems. All but one watch has a Yema movement and all run consistently at +15s/ day. I have discovered accuracy to be of little importance, to me anyway. I also own a couple of Seikos and I wear one to two watches daily and gaining or losing a few seconds is of no consequence. I owe one watch that gains less than 30s/year, and it's quartz, of course.

It's a fun watch, with a nice balance of wearing purposes in the diving genre, without coming across all big bold and functional toolish diver or even overly sporty. Indeed, there is quite a bit of talk about QC issues, which doesn't really fit both their maturity nor their pricing. There is also discussion about how justified the in-house movement claim is. I'm not sufficiently informed or technical to make that call, but the two lines of negative chatter do cause concern, which is a pity. When they get designs right, they really have a lot to offer visually in my opinion. That said, your gripe with the handset: I think it's not so much their dimension, though they could be slightly enlarged, or shape, to me it seems more the soft and somewhat wishy-washy execution. The lines, cuts, and surfaces would be better if sharper. A recent video review in their new integrated bracelet design left me underwhelmed. I think this is a better design overall.

No direct experience with Yema. I have heard what you alluded to in customer service/quality. I seriously considered an 18kt full gold Superman, which was by far the cheapest gold watch on the market, but ultimately passed for above reasons. This one sorta looks like Steinhart made it for them. Not a bash in Steinhart, just saying the case looks Steinhart-y and so does the clasp. At that cost I think I would go with Steinhart if they make something similar.

Eh nice watches, pretty good reissues of their vintage legends but garbage aftersales even for us in the EU. Sent my watch in two times due to a stuck date date and in the end gave up as I've received it with a busted crown stem and a grinding mechanism. I kinda got told to sell it or buy another at one point which kind of ended it for me. At that price point you can't really get a nicer vintage reissue especially from the same brand that made the original... But then again, not worth the hassle I'd 2x the budget and go with a Longines or stay in the same budget and get a Steinhart or a Squale...

Looks gorgeous, like most YEMAs do to me. Unfortunately, their reputation appears to precede them, as many of the comments here bear out. Can't say I wouldn't be just a bit gun-shy about cracking my wallet open for one right now.

It’s the official yacht-rock elitist bar party watch. I only saw this because it was on my Facebook feed. But serious consideration would start if it was a travelers GMT for that price only because I can see myself wearing something like this on a beach.

The watch is beautiful and the designer crushed it, but the customer service sounds horrible. The comments are just a compilation of everything wrong with them lol. Glad i saw this before i considered this brand in the future

You are right, I bought the newest release of the 39mm Superman 500 GMT (white dial pepsi bezel) two months ago directly from Yema. Straight out of the box, the date numeral was totally misaligned in the date window and was weirdly unresponsive to adjustment (with hour hand at 6:00) Yema wanted me to mail it back to France for servicing...INCONVENIENT AND SO DISAPPOINTING All because they have no brand service centers here in South East Asia, where I live...not even an accredited independent service and repair provider...tsk tsk So I took the watch to my trusty professional repair service...After two hours they called me to tell me that the calendar spring was misaligned... Yema, in my case here, has very poor quality control and post-purchase support Lovely watch, terrible vendor

Doesn’t matter how nice a Yema looks (they do look nice), I’m never buying another Yema again. Their customer service is absolute trash. Besides, at Yema’s price points, there are many worthier brands such as Seiko, Citizen, Oris, Nodus, Farer, Baltic, Nomos, Nivada Grenchen . . .

Im going to listen to the majority and not buy a watch from a brand that doesnt respect its customers. Also, inconsisting QC and in-house cheap movements are not my cup of tea, why dont they just use a sellita-200-1 I have no idea

This is very fruity indeed, quite expensive, Im taking my customary year or so to jump on the gmt bandwagon & Yema are high on my list, I even like the old ones but, and its a big but I have heard so many horror stories about reliability, QC and customer service its genuinely put me off.

You lost me at “not a true traveler GMT.” Also, I’ve never been a fan of rounded/bubbly stamped clasps (like cheaper Seikos). I dig their earlier diver design with the mesh bracelet. I know it’s vintage-looking, it I really dig the design.

Max, congrats for your pronunciation of « pièce de resistance ». what about Yema ? I am always amazed that many reviewers keep waxing lyrical about this stupid bezel locking system. A dive watch on which you need to unscrew the crown each time you want to set the bezel into a new position ? Come on ! The simple fact that few of no other company ever used that feature could be a clue. I think modern Yema is simultaneously trying to appeal to guys like me, born in the sixties in 🇫🇷 and who saw their fathers rocking Yemas back in the day and to be a French Bremont, but in a cheaper way. Because if you’re not French, why take the risk of buying a Yema ? Get a no nonsense Seiko or a Lorier for the vintage vibe and live a happy life.

I had an issue with a quartz Yema (running 10 spd fast). Customer service was polite and responsive when I contacted them. But I didn't end up sending the watch in for repair (sold it to someone who didn't mind it running fast), so I can't comment further on their actual repair process.
