Thanks for sharing this info. I belong to a couple of ML with over 325 tracks uploaded. But I have one track (two versions, :30 and :15 alt) that is used in the radio commercials of a major US retailer for over a year. For these tracks I am compensated $1,750 a month from the retailer. I have yet to upload the tracks to any music library. If I upload to say, Scorekeepers, how does that affect the retailer? Thanks for any opinion!

Certainly appreciate the amount of info for sync licensing, you're providing. I need to expand my library, but unfortunately I'm unable to get the new songs copyrighted. What do you suggest is the best option? Thanks for your time.
@MakeMusicIncome4 ай бұрын
Well, copyright is not something that should keep you from expanding. In the US songs are copyrighted when you put them into a fixed form. And if a library publishes them, or you register them with a PRO that also adds a latter of protection.
@undert0nemedia4 ай бұрын
I wasn't aware of that PROs could help protect songs, just didn't want the hassle of trying to prove the rights. I'll look into this a bit further. Thanks for the insight.

Questions in this video you said not to send it out to too many libraries, and keep it to like 4 at a time..I assumed this is for people who are trying to get into Exclusive libraries....does it apply if I'm targeting non exclusive libraries?
@MakeMusicIncome Жыл бұрын
No you can absolutely send as much as you are allowed to non-exclusive libraries.

I'd be interested in a composition channel. My main focus is orchestral music but I don't doubt there will be a lot of transferable information regardless of style. I'd especially be interested to hear what make music more suitable for sync vs stock.

thanks for all this! question, if I own the composition 100% but the producer who was part of the song with owns 15% of the masters and i own the other 85%, what do I do to become a one-stop shop, do i need to own 100% to be able to use it in sync?
@MakeMusicIncome2 жыл бұрын
Well, the producer would be part of the deal since he owns 15% of the master. Sync royalties go to the master owner(s) and PRO royalties go to the writer/publishers. In this case you could still be “one stop” you’d just have to have the producer on board with you making decisions on the song. One stop means they don’t have to check with anyone else and can trust YOU ONLY to make the decisions without having to check with anyone else.

Question. Is there a service that I can put my music on where I can post a link to my music on (not sound cloud). If you were a Sync Library - I want one link I can send to you and you hear my music only.
@MakeMusicIncome2 жыл бұрын
Disco is like a more secure SoundCloud, but it is $10/mo. SoundCloud also has a private option, but you may get advertisements on a free plan.

what video did you speak on how to send an email?
@MakeMusicIncome2 жыл бұрын
Wasn’t it this one?
@MakeMusicIncome2 жыл бұрын
I mean it’s pretty simple. A short to the point email with a link to SoundCloud or a DISCO link. You don’t need to talk about your music in life experiences or anything like that. Just a line about how you found the library, that you think you might be a good fit, and you’d love it if they would take a listen to your music at this link. And then leave the link to SoundCloud or DISCO.

I'm puzzled. You draw a distinction between artists who write and composers. Well, geez, I don't know where I fit in. I write music, but I also compose music. I'm not sure if I know what the difference is. A clarification would help.
@MakeMusicIncome2 жыл бұрын
Well I think many of us are both right, but I know some songwriters who would never think of themselves as a composer say of film music, or orchestral scores. And I know composers who think writing music for “songs” with lyrics is totally a foreign experience for them (unless it’s opera, and even then they often bring in a librettist.) But ARTISTS who write are a completely different breed and may think of themselves as a songwriter, but again most likely not a composer in the classical sense, or even someone who would make cues for advertising or instrumentals for licensing.

Great video ..Do you hire demo singers before sending out your songs ?
@MakeMusicIncome2 жыл бұрын
Usually for sync I hire pro players, singers, and engineers.
@mynameisirrelevant462 жыл бұрын
@@MakeMusicIncome Perfect.. thanks one more question. Let's say you wrote the song..Melody arrangement everything. etc..But hired pro players to spice it up with better chords...Who would be classified as the producer of the song? Would it be yourself?..And just have listed Keyboardist.."Blah blah"..Bass Player by "Blah Blah"
@MakeMusicIncome2 жыл бұрын
No they are work for hire, meaning after they are paid they are re not owed anything. You stay the producer and owner of the song.

I'm curious what the advent of AI generated music in the past few months has on the ideas introduced here.
@MakeMusicIncome8 ай бұрын
I took another look and to be honest I don’t think AI will immediately affect music supervisors, sync agents, or music libraries right now. All three of those STILL and more than ever are looking for talented and authentic music by humans. Sure there may be calls for AI music, but they don’t want user generated stuff anymore than I do from students when they turn in ChatGPT text. If you produce only MIDI pack and Loop-Based music, then yeah you may be at risk to be replaced by AI. But not session players and human vocalists who have style.
