I recently saw that Mike Flanagan’s Hush movie, which disappeared from Netflix and wasn’t available anywhere, is now up for pre-order to purchase on streaming. Comes out August 27th. Bizarre that an 8 year old movie is now available to pre-order lol

You are correct. Coda is the only Oscar best picture winner without a physical media release. All the rest have a dvd are above. I have every winner on physical media except Coda .

Im so glad I got the Italian 4k for Coda because it's an amazing film. Still, it definitely needs a us release. I'm also still waiting for bottoms on bluray. Supposedly Kino lorber is doing it but as of next month it will have been a year since I saw it in theatres and we still don't have a release date

Saltburn is getting a physical media release as the director confirmed the cast (minus Barry Keoghan) recorded a commentary track. It wouldn't surprise me if Criterion released it.

I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out exactly what goes on in the minds of studios and distributors when it comes to physical releases post covid. Ever since this all digital hellscape has taken over, fewer and fewer movies/shows have been released for home video. I saw the writing on the wall long before 2019, but the moment that things changed heavily in my mind was when I went to the theaters to see Army of the Dead. High profile movie, big-name stars (Dave Bautista/Ella Purnell), Zach Snyder directing, $100M budget...and no physical release since its debut. And I just knew in my heart that movie was going to get released because of its nature. But when that never happened, I realized that if any streaming service is given distribution rights for a film, you have to pray that it will actually get released. Just like with Don't Look Up. A movie that has every right to be released on physical media, but is stuck in digital limbo. And it doesn't even seem as if it's because the streaming services feel like they should retain exclusivity of IP's in order to increase their membership count because many of the films that I'd love to see are properties that can't possibly be counting heavily towards their numbers because either they're two niche for anyone to notice, or they've been out so long that everyone who's wanted to see them already has and they're no longer maintaining any hold for the platform. The Wandering Earth Day Shift The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Night in Paradise Project Power Blood Machines Kill Boksoon Oxygen I Am Mother In the Shadow of the Moon The Tomorrow War Extraction 1 & 2 Project Adam Kate Night Comes for Us I could go on and on and on. You mentioned Prey, but that was a very rare win for physical collectors. And even then, it seems to have only been a limited release and you can't really find it anywhere outside of the second hand market now. And in the SLIGHTEST defense of Disney, (outside of Barbarian of course), they seem to be the only ones doing more than most recently by releasing their Marvel and Star Wars properties in small bursts these days, four shows at a time, but we never know which shows they're going to release, or when. It seems like each time they release a group, they sit back and wait to see how much interest they generate. So who even knows if they'll even do another set of shows at any given time? And they're the exception with the streaming landscape, not the rule. It's frustrating being a cinephile and a collector in the 2020's...

What I’m really concerned about are the streaming movies that are great, good, or even mediocre getting lost within the streaming mosh Pit that don’t get talked about at all “Kate” on Netflix for example is not a great film but I enjoyed it. Films like that aren’t necessarily critical and commercial hits I just don’t want them to be lost.

I actually talk about this movie a lot. In fact, I just left a comment on this very video mentioning it! It's crazy because the same year that Kate released, two other films released in the same vein...The Protégé and Gunpowder Milkshake. Neither film was as good as Kate (Protégé was especially abysmal), yet both of those got Blu-ray releases and Kate didn't. And for the life of me I can't understand why.

I found Barbarian at Goodwill on bluray and had no idea it was a bootleg until I got home. I live in a military town so I find very well done bootlegs all the time, I found Mrs. Davis on bluray as well and it looks great. Same with the newest Netflix Texas Chainsaw

FYI..there is a REGION FREE 4k for KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON (I have it)….ITALY….and you have to include NAPOLEON in there

To my knowledge, a movie need to be screened at a cinema to be eligible for an Oscar nomination. That's why streaming exclusive movies also are available on selected cinemas for a limited time only.

Still Waiting for the Original Star Wars Release . Excluding the exceptional Blu-ray and 4k77 Unofficial Release. And how 🤔 long ago in a Disney Basement It's be stashed to never be seen.I fear they have been destroyed???By Lucas. STANLEY KUBRICK was noted for Burning any extra footage at the time. So his movies would not be enhanced or Altered.Thats why we don't have extra footage to see it let alone be included in any current format

I’d expect “Fallout” to get a physical release close to when the second season releases to streaming. Amazon has released physical copies of “Reacher” and “Jack Ryan”. “Fallout” recently got a lot of Emmy nominations, and it’s a genre that will sell.

💁... You know studios really need to put these films out. I can't say that I really feel sorry for the studios much when they refuse to put out legal means of purchasing them. I don't support wholesale pirating of any product, whether it be music, games, or movies. But when they make it impossible to purchase legally... 🤷... Well they kind of asked for it.

Also got the Godfather Corleone Chronicles and the Extended Version of Hateful Eight in China as those need to be preserved physically. But in the end it is still a stream (with all its limitations) on a disc.

CODA is my favorite movie released in the 2020s, lucky for me I was able to buy it on 4K from Italy (or somewhere in Europe). I'm no horror fan so I don't even know what Barbarian is.

Another one I am really wanting to see get an official release that would make money...Bright (with Will Smith). It is a Netflix original (that rarely gets aired on Netflix). I found a blu-ray Promo copy online. I loved the movie! I can't understand the reasoning of NOT releasing a Will Smith action movie. Also waiting to see what happens with the new Beverly Hills Cop. I was ticked off when I couldn't go see it in the theater!

Wow, he actually swore. Caught me by surprise. I want a physical release for a Netflix original film called A Whisker Away, love that film. Other than that there is one other film I really really want on physical media. Technically this other film has been released twice on bluray. The first is an out of print bluray steelbook that goes for over $200 on places like Ebay and the second release is in a $550 collector set. I just want an affordiable option to buy the bluray, is that too much to ask for?

Ken, you forgot about Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon”. It came out last November in theaters. Then, it went to streaming on Apple TV in February and has not yet gotten a physical release. True, it was a disappointing effort from Scott IMHO. I forgot which studio produced that along with Apple. It flopped theatrically.

@@GamezGuru1 Being as over 50 million people viewed it worldwide during it’s first two weeks on Prime Video, I’m sure if they licensed it to Vinegar Syndrome it would sell out. Especially if it was released in a 4K VSU edition. It’s definitely a superior film to “Navy Seals”. Which was the last VSU Vinegar Syndrome released.

Probably not high in demand, but I'd love the 80's TV movie The Midnight Hour on blu-ray. Anchor Bay released it on dvd in 2000, so it has a physical media history. For sure Barbarian seems the most obvious to me. I remember people talking about that one for months. Even by people who don't traditionally like horror.

Killers of the Flower moon is martin Scorsese movie, the physical rights were held my Martin he sold it to the Italian producer. In the states don’t hold your breath in the states Apple owns the US rights to the movie.
